I know that I, and probably the other moderators, would be interested in any information that you can disclose as to the nature of Ford's attempted action, objections, etc. BOF provides support to Ford customers and enthusiasts that isn't available elsewhere and some of the support is provided by Ford employees.

Parts of Ford seem separated from other parts of Ford.  BOF doesn't pose a trademark issue for Ford, so it will all work out over the next few weeks.  Nothing to worry about here ;)

I noticed today that the Ford trademark Blue Oval is missing from the masthead. Just a streamlining, or perhaps a trademark infringement issue?

Yes, we are having issues with Ford.  They wish this and other sites to be closed down - not to worry because we're not going anywhere.

More updates on this as we progress.......

  3. Shelby GT500KR VP1 / Verification Prototype #1

The Shelby GT500KR program was the last program between Carroll Shelby and Ford.  This vehicle is currently owned by a former Shelby American employee.

    VP1.thumb.jpg.9cf8704d937c3f6fb9efa8c1ea200755.jpg

    Verification Prototypes Made
Ford made four specific GT500KR verification prototypes:

VP1: EPA Certification Program Vehicle. This is the vehicle for sale.

VP2: Durability Certification Vehicle. Scrapped by Ford.

VP3: Not used for GT500KR program.
VP4: Buck Vehicle.  Reportedly scrapped by Ford.

    Features
    • This vehicle was used by Ford and Shelby to certify the Shelby GT500KR for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and receive an Executive Order (EO) in order for vehicle to be publicly sold,

    • GT500KR E.P.A. certification by Mercedes Benz - includes data book,

    • Built on 29 August 2007 - this was the first vehicle produced specifically as a Shelby GT500KR.  VP2  was produced on 31 August 2007,

    • Includes white DOT Goodyear experimental tires,

    • Ford Racing adjustable front suspension (not production GT500KR),

    • Ford Racing suspension (not production GT500KR),
    • Roush prototype GT500KR carbon fiber hood,

    • Roush prototype GT500KR splitter,
    • Roush prototype rear deck spoiler,

    • Fuel gauge inoperable for E.P.A. testing procedures,
    • External fuel lines *,
    • Emissions exempt declaration certification *.

    Deleted Items

    • Over the hood stripes deleted (only KR with such), does have GT500KR side stripes,
    • Performance mufflers with chrome plates tips replaced with E.P.A. specific test mufflers,

    • Ford Racing short throw shifter and shifter ball (uses stock GT500 unit),

    • Mirror skull caps,

    • Shelby GT500KR 18" forged aluminum wheels (uses stock GT500 wheels).

    VP1-2.thumb.jpg.8f8d5d67425210cd8dbe1c23cba9a9c7.jpg

    Notes

    * This is an actual verification prototype test vehicle.  Due to the liability associated with prototype vehicles, these vehicles are scrapped by Ford.  On the rare occasion that a prototype vehicle is sold to the public, it's done without a VIN and is not registerable - a bill of sale only.  However, VP1 was incorrectly sold with a title and can be registered legally for use on highways.  Buyer will have to sign a waiver of liability by seller before purchase. Liability for this vehicle falls back to Shelby and the Ford Motor Company.   This unique Shelby is meant to be shown in a museum rather than in a private collection.

The hood featured in this photograph was used for the Shelby GT500 Terlingua program and isn't correct.  The correct prototype GT500KR hood (gray) will be installed.  The GT500KR black wheels shown are also not correct - the correct GT500 wheels and prototype tires will be installed.

This post will be updated with more details as to sale date and location.

The Lincoln Division has been poorly managed for decades. The last time it was distinctive was back in the '70's and '80's with the iconic waterfall grille on the Mark IV/V series and the Town Cars. They were unmistakable on the road and you could spot them a half mile away. Then they started changing the design language but never did anything that had the same impact and they kept changing the look every few years. The one thing that's been consistent is the inconsistent commitment to the Lincoln brand. In the past 10 years the company has been pouring billions of dollars into the brand to try to save/revitalize the brand and it's image. At least now all the Lincoln models have a unified appearance. The new models may be very good regarding quality, etc. The big problem is that there's nothing distinctive about a Lincoln and you can easily pass by one and not even realize it.

Lincoln has indeed been neglected for a long, long time.  I spoke with someone at Ford about this four years ago and they centered it around Ford's desire to grow their Premier Auto Group (PAG), which consisted of Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo over Lincoln-Mercury.

Ford hasn't been consistent with Lincoln and never desired for it to be a global brand like Audi, Lexus, BMW, etc. are.

I'm sure that has a little to do with it, but at the same time its a self realizing prophecy...companies can't make money on a product, so they are going to cut funding or keep it going as a long as possible to make the most $$ off it.

Lets flip this around-Toyota has the oldest "truck" fleet in the market. The FourRunner is a dinosaur along with the Tacoma and Tundra.

The Taco is best selling small pickup in the US, but for how long? The current Ranger is better then it and the next gen, going on what the Bronco is going to be, will be a world beater. The FourRunner is going to get run over by the Bronco when it comes out and the Tundra just goes at its own pace. The Taco and FourRunner are going to have their lunches eaten by the competition. I know the Taco is due for an update, but the new Ranger should be out within 12 months or that happening.

It also seems like most of Toyota's lineup is older or just has refreshes-which is good for the backend of operations to keep profits up, but if they don't keep with the updates, they run the issue of getting left behind.

I can see the Ranger, if Ford wanted it to, be the best selling small pickup on the market. I'm just not sure if MAP can do that between the Ranger and Bronco. But its possible in the next 3-5 years.

The thing about those dinosaur Toyota products is that they've been proven out over time and offer a lot of reliability.  I know many people here in Fla., that would never consider leaving Toyota and go back to purchasing anything else due to that reliability.

What's the sales ratio of Ford Ranger vs. Toyota Tacoma fleet sales?  I don't see Toyota truck products in government and rental fleets, however I see Ranger and Explorers stocked up at virtually every city government.

Per Friday's FDNB (Fleet Distribution News Bulletin), here's the production timetable for the 2021 Mustang Mach-E.

    • 06/22/2020 - 2021MY Order Bank Open Date
    • 08/20/2020 - 2021MY Scheduling Begins
    • 10/26/2020 - 2021MY Job #1 Date

I understood that it was in October, just didn't have the 26th as the start date.  Thanks for claifying that.

With a Job #1 Date on 10/26/2020 and the usual slow production ramp up with a new model, especially with all the media attention expected for the Mach-E, vehicles probably won't start to arrive at dealerships until at least mid-December or later. As such, I'm surprised they don't introduce the Mach-E as a 2022MY which would be easy.

Ford is bad about new model JOB1 and dealer fulfillments.  Ford generally holds the first batches produced back many weeks - sometimes even months.  I hope that's not the case for the Mach E.

I converted my Mach E reservation to an order.  Premium trim, Extended range battery, AWD and Infinite Blue Metallic with space gray interior. Now it remains to be seen how Ford will set production order. First Edition will be among the first produced and Premium trim prioritized  over Select trim.  How will they schedule higher reservation numbers who order early vs a lower reservation number who waits to convert his reservation to an order?  Also where in the schedule will they make the European model?  I have a 331xx (higher) reservation number so do not know if that means late 2020 or early 2021. The Cuautitlan plant should be able to produce the 50,000 cars in much less than 12 months if batteries and parts can be supplied in a timely manner.  The plant is rumored to start full production in August.  I'm starting to get excited!

Congrats on the Mach E order!  I haven't seen a definite JOB1 start date stated as of yet.

If you look at the big picture, I don’t think things look good for escape (down 49%). The Ecosport is a terrible vehicle and it was only down 19%. Edge Has had the same interior forever and is overdue for a full redesign and it was only down 36%. If you look at the other CUVs in ford’s line up that were recently redesigned, the picture looks even worse. Explorer actually increased 12% and outsold the escape. Corsair was only down 8%.

I'd like to see the breakdown of Explorer retail vs. Explorer fleet sales.   A lot of cities here in Fla. use the Explorer for police and government vehicles.

Maybe Ford will see a bump in Explorer police sales due to the riots? :)

Amyz and jfishetti, wondering what your VIN number range is ?

I do NOT ask the exact VIN, but wondering roughly what your VIN range is. The last 4 digits tells us what number off the assembly line the car was produced.

My first Aviator had a VIN ending in the 1300's and was sent to Flat Rock and never delivered to us

Our replacement Aviator has a VIN ending in the 8700's and was delivered with issues and stuff broken.  8700 indicates that at least 8,700 cars were already built  before ours and indicates that many had to be made before this/our car to be released,  and not sent to Flat Rock for assembly repair.

Just as a note, Ford does NOT manufacture vehicles based on their VIN numbers sequentially.  Thus VIN 8700 could be made before VIN 0013.

  11. Mach E First Edition Sold Out !

MachENation. com - When Ford introduced the Mach E in Los Angeles on 18 November, they rolled a "First Edition" model, which would offer an exclusive Grabber Blue exterior paint option as well as other appointments. Ford specified that the First Edition would only be available in limited quantities and urged anyone interested in a Mach E First Edition to reserve one right away.

While the First Edition was available in other colors than Grabber Blue, most reservation holders that registered their Mach E chose Grabber Blue while Rapid Red following close behind.

You can registered your Mach E Here | Check out Mach E Registration Stats Here.

Ford recently updated their Mach E Build and Price website with one model missing - the First Edition.  According the Ford's website the Mach E First Edition is already sold out!  Now, the only way that someone will be able to purchase a Mach E First Edition is if a reservation holder cancels their order.

You can still reserve a Mach E Select, Premium, California or GT model.  To build your Mustang Mach E, go here.

  12. Ford Trademarks Mach E and "E" Logo

After unveiling the Mustang Mach E on 18 November in Los Angeles, Ford filed a trademark at U.S. Patent and Trademark office on 19 November for the Mach E's official logo.  It's the same exact logo, which appeared on the Mach E when introduced at the L.A. Auto Show .  The logo itself is somewhat of a subtle throwback on the one used on the 1970 Mustang Mach 1.

What's more interesting, however is that Ford also filed a separate trademark for the "E" logo, which appears at the end of the "Mach" script by itself as a stand alone.  This seems to suggest that Ford is dropping the current-generation "Energi" logo that appeared on the C-MAX and on the current generation Ford Fusion Energi.
