If you haven't read the Bloomberg report of Alfa Romeo's newest delay, click here to check it out. Then there's a more in depth review about and discussion from AutoBlog's follow up article here. Speculation around Detroit was that Chrysler would eventually get broken apart and carved up to other auto makers: Jeep would go to Ford and Ram would either go to Nissan or Toyota - of course, pending the highest bids. Both Chrysler and Dodge would be shut down permanently. The last white night, which was expected to "absorb" Chrysler was another German firm, this time the VW group. With their latest diesel emission problems, that might no longer be possible, unless the Feds make some sort of deal. VW has stated on numerous occasions that they want Alfa and VW execs. have hinted about Ram and Jeep. Thoughts?

U.S. Ford Ecosport for 2017
robertlane replied to mackinaw's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
A Ford exec. told me to stop thinking about EcoBoost because it will become standard and not so exclusive like it is now. I'm betting that by the time the EcoSport comes, it will have a standard EcoBoost engine. -
It was today 17 years ago today that Ford purchased Volvo for $6.45 billion USD - who misses it as being part of Ford?

Report: 400 HP Ranger coming?
robertlane replied to blazerdude20's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Back in the mid-1990s, Ford did experiment with a 5.0L Ranger and I *think* that it was called the Thunderbolt internally. A friend at Ford brought one over to my house before the project was scrapped - of course that was a different time. I'd guess a 2.3L EB would be a nice fit. -

Thoughts on FCA's future success? FCA has to bet on Jeep and Ram because it's really all that they have. Alfa's plan to add water and instantly become an Audi or BMW isn't panning out and is once again delayed until 2020. FCA's Chrysler and Dodge entry level models are not selling, so step 1 is moving production to Mexico with step 2 being to outsource their manufacture, maybe to the Austrians? Is their consistent and new-found strategy to increase Jeep and Ram production going to be under intense pressure due to emissions concerns? With FCA not positioning themselves as a technology company, will they or in fact are they falling behind?

Detroit News readers name Continental Best of Show Lincoln Continental.org - The Lincoln Continental earned top honors as Ford Motor Co. picked up three awards for its new cars and trucks in The Detroit News annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Roughly 100 judges voted Lincoln’s new flagship sedan as Best of Show amongst all the reveals at the 2016 North American International Auto show. The Continental sports three engine options: a base, 3.7-liter V-6, 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6, and a powerful, 3.0-liter twin-turbo six with 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. It will be built at Ford Motor Co.’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant and will hit showrooms late this year. READ MORE HERE

Lincoln’s Chief Designer: We Don’t Want to Follow the Germans LINCOLN CONTINENTAL.org from Car and Driver: It was launched in concept form at the New York auto show last year, and the series-production version was unveiled at the Detroit auto show this week. We are speaking, of course, about the Continental, Lincoln’s new flagship. We spent some time with the brand’s chief designer David Woodhouse, a Brit by birth but who has a deep understanding for American-style luxury. Based on a front-wheel-drive platform but decidedly larger than the MKZ, the Continental is designed to take on the premium offerings by Audi, BMW, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz. But while Cadillac has—with much success, it must be said—tried to beat the Germans at their own game of building superior performance sedans, Lincoln will not follow that path. You won’t find front splitters, carbon-ceramic brakes, or performance-data recorders on a Lincoln. “We are an American brand and decidedly don’t want to imitate the Germans,” says Woodhouse.
