We have lost a great man. He was more than just a supervisor, he was a great friend. Obituaries Jack Edward Holmes (January 10, 1971 - June 10, 2009) Virginia Beach, VA Jack Edward Holmes, 38, of Virginia Beach, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Born in Portsmouth, VA he was the son of Richard Blaine Holmes and Eleanor Brady Holmes. He was a 1989 graduate of Deep Creek High School and 1994 graduate of Old Dominion University where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. Jack was an Automation Engineer at the Norfolk and Louisville Assembly Plants for Ford Motor Company and also worked in the manufacturing division at Blackwater USA. Jack will be remembered for his ability to do for others, including a tree farm to benefit his children’s education. Including his parents, Jack is survived by his wife, Mikele Lynn Holmes; two children, Colton Jackson Holmes and Grayson Coralee Holmes, all of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Steven W. Holmes and wife Jeannine of Key West, FL and Mark K. Holmes and wife Lisa of Chesapeake as well as four nieces and one nephew. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Rev. Cliff Whitlock will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jack E. Holmes Memorial Fund, for the future needs of his Children, C/O any Monarch Bank Branch.

That's pretty close to how other unions operate. In the I.B.E.W. if the company needs a certain amount of employees it needs, it calls the hall and requests that number of people and they are sent out to the job site. The workers still get paid by checks directly from the company, but bennies come from the union. The company and union agree on a wage package, lets say $45.00 an hour. The worker gets a certain percentage of that and the remainder goes the union to take care of health care and retirement funds. I don't see why the UAW couldn't do something like that. I posted on here shortly after getting a new job with a different union and posted how there bennies worked. MAN, the uaw guys had a fit! I told them in my new union (I.L.A.), the health care coverage would increase with the amount of time put in throughout the year. What this does is to keep the amount of people laying out of work down to a minimum. If you don't work, you don't get a good level of insurance. Sounded good to me and it is. My health care coverage is on par if not better than the uaws and the company I work for is not saddled with the cost.

I'm curious if one of the stipulations of the sale of the property by Ford is that the buyer assume responsiblity of any environmental problems associated with the land. With NAP, Ford is trying to get the buyer to accept land "as is".

Not for me its not. I come on here now that I'm gone to see how people are doing. I would have loved to stay with Ford. Personal matters with my wife's family prevented that. I know I should not post here. But I also felt you were taking a cheap shot at those of us who left and I had to respond. I'm sure you would have done the same.
