  1. Earlier this week, I purchased a used 2007 Explorer with 23,000 miles. It was a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle at my local Ford dealer. A couple of days later the ABS and Stability Control dash lights came on while driving and remained on. We took it back to the dealer yesterday and they replaced a "L/Rear Speed Sensor" as well as a Caliper Assembly. After driving it a few miles late yesterday, the lights came on again. However, after stopping the vehicle for awhile and then driving again for over 35 miles, the lights never came back on. Has anyone else had this issue with 2007 (or newer) Explorers and if so, how was it fixed?
  2. To be honest, I'm not looking forward to the new 2011 Explorer because it's a unibody. The current Explorer with body on frame construction is great!!! In fact, I'm headed to the dealer shortly to finish the paperwork on a used 2007 Explorer XLT with 23,000 miles. I'm trading my 2002 F-250 Diesel on it. I'm one of those types that has to have a new vehicle "grow on me" before I like it. The 2011 Explorer will probably be fine, but I hate to see the trend going away from body on frame vehicles. They've been proven to be tougher and longer lasting than unibodies. Just my opinion.
  3. I'm sure they will develop a column shift Taurus for police use. The Dodge Charger comes standard with buckets and floor shift, but they move the shifter to the column in order to have room for the computer and other equipment. As far as a bench seat, I don't see that happening because of the Volvo design.
  4. I would rather have the wiper control on the turn signal stalk. I don't like it on the right side. If you've driven a column shift vehicle for awhile, it gets confused for the transmission shifter.
  5. My 2005 Five Hundred now has around 48,000 miles on it. At 27,000 the rear brake pads were replaced by Just Brakes (because I knew that Ford - at that time - did not include brakes in the warranty). I was concerned by the pads needing to be replaced so soon and the fact that the rear pads were gone before the front pads. Just Brakes told me that this is common because of the Five Hundred being a European design (Volvo). In July, I received the letter from Ford stating that they have included rear brake pads on the warranty up to 36,000 miles. I followed their instructions for a refund of previous repairs (gave the dealer my original receipt), and received a check for the price of the brakes (they did not pay for the $39.95 labor charges). I felt this was a good gesture by Ford, and the action should have been taken sooner.
  6. I'll take a diesel F150 or a diesel Expedition.
  7. Isn't the 2009 just a "refreshing" of the 2007-2008's? From what I've read, the 2009 will have the three bar grille, so it should bear a strong resemblance to the Expedition. If it's just a "refreshing", then there probably won't be any changes to the wheelbases and/or cab styles.
  8. I still haven't seen a picture of a 2008 with the mid mounted cargo box. That should be one goofy looking truck.
  9. I agree, I don't think they've had that much of an impact. I know a few people who will not buy a Ford because of this group. There are also people who wouldn't shop at Wal Mart until the AFA was satisfied that they (Wal Mart had "satisfied" their "family friendly requirements"). Never mind that Ford has some of the best and safest products on the highway. I had forgotten about the Disney issue. Also, just to show how "mis-informed" that the AFA can be; they used to ask people to e-mail the Ford dealers, and claimed the dealerships were owned by Ford. I sent them a pretty hot message about this telling them this was not true, but of course, did not receive a response.
  10. I have a 2002 7.3, and currently have no desire to get a 6.4 for awhile. However I have read the most diesel truck owners get better mileage from their trucks by NOT BABYING them. Just run it as hard as you can. I think that when (and if) I get another diesel, I'll do this (even though my 7.3 is doing good with 122,000 miles). Might be worth a try.
  11. Has anyone thought that Ford's pro gay stance and the boycott by this group: http://www.afa.net/ford082307.htm, might have an impact on sales? I was once on their e-mail list, but got off it because of e-mails almost daily criticizing Ford. Every time Ford's sales figures came out with dismal numbers, they would take credit for the low numbers. Just a thought.
  12. The Dodge Charger police car is equipped the same way: column shifter versus the "civilian" floor shifter in order to have room for the computer and other necessary equipment.
  13. My son and daughter in law have had an Edge for several months and seem to really love it. I haven't heard of any problems with it. They also seem to have pretty good luck with their 2006 Fusion.
  14. Let's not confuse unibody with the current "unibody" cars. This was a unibody in the sense that the bed and cab were one unit, but it still had a genuine Ford truck frame under it. I knew a guy who had a 62 F100 with the separate cab and bed (the usual setup) and had a wreck that damaged the bed. He just replaced the bed (actually went from a Styleside to a Flareside), and drove the truck for a number of years after that. Had the truck been the "unibody" as noted above, the truck could possibly have been totalled. I think that Ford was probably trying to save money and also trying to come out with something different from the competition, which IMO backfired.
