  1. Well looks like another diesel disaster from Navistar. Ford needs to be throwing every resource they have at dumping that company. It is their own fault because they should have known that this new 6.4L would be a complete dud after the completely worthless 6.0L. Navistar has never made a good diesel. All gutless duds that never worked right even after a million alterations. I am rarely negative on Ford, but when it comes to the Navistar engine it has only been one piece of junk after another. Ford NEEDS to be working OVERTIME and then some on finding a replacement for this POS engine. There is no reason why they cannot build their own diesel or import one from Europe. Navistar could care less so that is why they need to be dumped as the diesel engine supplier as soon as possible. Volvo? Cat? Ford? I am not sure, but anything other then Navistar!!!
  2. BUICK -Barfed Up Icky Carmel Korn or better yet Big Ugly Indestructible Compact Killer. MOPAR - Mitsubishi's Over Priced American Replicars For the whole list of different car makes...here you go!!! Some are pretty funny! http://home.wanadoo.nl/fox-1/wheelnut.htm
  3. Oh I agree, of course I need a Super Duty as much as I need someone to come to my door and knock all my teeth out. I saw my first one in a parking lot the other day and WOW... it's BOLD. I love it. I thought it was going to be ugly when I saw it in pictures, but in real life, it is so massive and tough looking that it makes all other pickups look like wimpy trucks. New Super Duty = HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY all others = wimpy wimpy wimpy
  4. I saw an Edge with paper tags running around Sioux Falls last week. On the street it looks pretty neat...you certainly don't mistake it for anything but a Ford. I saw an MKX on I-90 around Mitchell when I was going back home last weekend. It was a white chocolate colored one and looked really sharp.
  5. I'll be the first to say it...I think it's gonna flop in the long term. No one thinks Toyota can have anything less then complete success with everything they touch, but this time I get a feeling this huge Tundra will be Toyota's first massive flop in the marketplace considering the level of money spent on the project. Why? Because people don't want a bigger light duty pickup...that thing is downright HUGE in person yet it is still a light duty pickup. If you are gonna pay the price for huge and need a huge pickup then you will go with a REAL heavy duty truck like the Super Duty. Sure Toyota has money to waste so even if it doesn't come close to their projections it won't bother them. I just don't think it is going to sell that much better then the outgoing model. Oh and did anyone mention...it's ugly! I honestly think Toyota would have been better off doing a redesign of their outgoing Tundra. It was a nice sized truck. It actually was slightly trimmer then the Detroit pickups and therefore it had something to set it apart from the rest. Remember the Titan was going to wreak havoc on Detroit and we see how that turned out.
  6. With gas prices being the way they are these days...who would buy a 4 door family sedan that requires premium fuel? Ford is acheving 260-265 HP on their Duratec 35 on regular unleaded, why can't Toyota if their engineering is supposed to be so superior??? Yes, I wish that Ford would drop the Duratec 35 into the Fusion to make it more competitive as far as horsepower is concerned. However would 263 HP (I think that is the MKZ's output) even be enough for some people on this message board? I don't exactly understand the obession with horsepower in a car class like this when the majority of sales center around the 4 cyl. models. Ford needs to target the lower level Camrys and Accords with the Fusion in both 4 cyl and V6 trim and let the 2008 Taurus go head to head with the loaded V6 Camrys. The Taurus will be larger then the Camry, but considering the way the last Camry that I drove handled (2004) model, it might as well have been a bigger car, it drove like a boat. Numb is the best word to describe it. I know the Camry is all new since then so who knows, but what good is all that horsepower when the tires are squealing around corners and the body leans like a Park Avenue.
  7. For the people that slam the Fusion...I wonder how many actually spent a whole day or more behind the wheel of one?
  8. My parents just got a 2007 Fusion SE V6 and it is a very nice car. The handling is good even with the 16" wheels and the ride quality is great for the weight of the car. I don't see any build quality issues in this car compared to most FoMoCo products before it. Sure it is not what a lot of you want and that is a 350-400HP V8 RWD sports sedan, but for being a midsized FWD sedan with a 4 cyl and V6 it does its job just fine. I agree that it would be nice to see a larger V6 as an option, but if you have ever spent time behind the wheel of a Fusion V6 like I have you would find that it's not even close to being underpowered. Sure horsepower = bragging rights these days and when it comes to that Fusion is behind the competition. Other then the power I can't really say bad things about the Fusion. The biggest thing that Ford has to get right here is the quality and reliability. RELIABILTY will make or break this car in the marketplace. It does not matter how much horsepower the car has or what nifty features it has if the reliability is not there. If it continues the trend of being a very reliabile, well built car then it will be successful. As far as the whole mediocre argument goes, I would not call the Fusion mediocre after spending a few hours in the drivers seat. I would say it is a good car. Not a great car, but a good car. Could it be improved, yes, and I hope that Ford will make the necessary improvements to make it a great car. They have a solid base to build from they just need to polish it up a little. I guess it all comes down to the argument...is the Fusion a good value in it's class? I would say that it is. It is solid, reliable, comfortable and priced right. Are there better cars in it's class? Yes, but if those cars cost more and if AWD is an important option (for those that live in the snow belt) then the Fusion might be more bang for your buck.
  9. Exactly. Styling does not sell these vans. All new sheetmetal would be a waste of money. A fullsized van is a box and there is not much you can do to change the looks of a box. No one cares what they look like. I also agree that the lack of a diesel is a much bigger deal then the style of the vehicle. I don't see why the 6.4L would not fit with some modification. Possibly a late availability option??? I agree they could have updated the dashboard with something along the lines of the new SuperDuty, but then again, would it even do anything for sales? Likely not. It's the class leader just the way it is...however I agree...they better get the diesel issue (if there is one) resolved quickly.
  10. Dodge Dakota Feb. sales 5,172 YTD 8,988 Ford Ranger Feb. sales 5,850 YTD 10,502 The Dakota is doing extremely poor when you consider the fact the antique Ranger is outselling it!
  11. I'd like to see the same kind of challenge done with the new Taurus this summer. They should put a Taurus AWD up against the Impala and Avalon.
  12. Well he can call it anything he wants...I think the end result of the hood ripped off, radiator hanging off, the rear wheel mount busted and the steering wheel having to be held sideways to make the SUV go in a straight line tells the real story. They did catch some nice air when they ramped the Expedition. I noticed the guy never went airborne in the Infiniti...probably would have knocked the whole front end out of it. Even though he did call it a POS Ford Exploder at the beginning he did make fun of Japanese SUV's at the end. Saying something like...you need a domestic truck to handle off roading.
  13. These people must be rich to be able to do this (even if you won the money gambling)...but you will LOVE this video! The only marks on the Expedition is from the guy in the Infiniti hitting him and although the Expedition did get stuck one time...check out how solid it is! The Infiniti fell apart when they ramped it...it is funny! I hope that the Expy owners here enjoy this video...oh and please don't abuse your trucks like this...it is just nice to see they are built Ford Tough! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MujmVfFNv-s
  14. I think the ad is funny. It will catch some attention. Even though these may seem a bit corny, this a WAY better then just doing lifestyle advertising. They are actually showing why their product is better then the competition which is an effective way to market a product. The second one should have shown them trying to get into the back of the Suburban...that would have been better.
  15. Escort is not a bad name for a car like this. It is better then Festiva or Aspire! I am glad they can actually name a car without having to use an "F" name. :happy feet:
  16. Well if Ford had not changed the name of their minivan the last time it was updated, it would be still selling today. It was not the class leader, but it was a good van for the price. Better then what GM offers. The Windstar to Freestar name change killed that vehicle more then anything. Dumb!!!
  17. The Expedition would do well with this engine. It would offer something that the Tahoe and Suburban don't have and improve fuel economy. I see the new 5.7L engine from Toyota have 381 hp and 401 ft/lb torque. Would it be safe to assume that this baby V8 diesel will out tow the Toyota??? Isn't torque more important then horsepower in a pickup application? Granted the Toyota gas burner will probably out accelerate the diesel empty with the higher horsepower numbers. Also, a 4.4L V8 diesel (especially a European designed diesel) should kill those huge gas burners in real world fuel economy. I know Ford is also working on a 6.2L gas V8, but I could see the diesel becoming more popular if it has a lot of power and does better on fuel. Last, I am sure the diesel will demand a higher price, but hopefully if it is an in-house engine that cost can be brought down to where it is competitive with larger gas engines. I don't know about anyone else, but the idea of a small turbo diesel in the F-150 is really exciting! :happy feet:
  18. I am thinking this truck is running around with some sort of a small turbo diesel under the hood. That would explain why they are using a PowerStroke gauge cluster on it. Also, notice the automatic transmission lever is from the SuperDuty. The appearance of a diesel in the F150 will do a lot for sales. Ford needs to focus on powertrain first then worry about the rest. The current pickup is a great pickup just in need of better engine and transmission choices. Also, I don't mind if they use some elements of the 2004 design, it still looks great, as long as they do enough to the styling and interior that it looks different. I'd rather see a facelifted model then a truck that looks ugly like a new Tundra. Looking at the new Silverado and the Ram the Ford is not behind at all in styling...they just need to make it look even better and add more power!
  19. Link: http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr030107.html So what car did best? A 1981 Escort! EDIT: Sorry the heading should have read Maxima.
  20. I see the Chinese being VERY interested in Chrysler. It would give them a foot in the market much quicker then trying to establish their own brands. However, what would remain to be seen is US customers reaction to such a purchase. Would it throw the remaining loyal domestic auto buyers to GM and Ford or would they look the other way and purchase from a Chinese owned Chrysler Group?
  21. I thought this was a funny quote by Mark Fields when asked about using vehicle names from Ford's past... Ford's Five Hundred will become Taurus for 2008, Freestyle Taurus X and the Mercury Montego Sable. So what of the Lincoln MKS slated to be assembled with those three at the company's Chicago plant? No change there, as the naming move is designed to spark a sales spurt for the other three. It also puts an end to the edict that all new Ford cars start with the letter "F" and new Mercurys with "M." "Names will no longer be hampered by those restraints," Fields said. As for going back in history for names, Fields said it is safe to assume Pinto isn't going to come back--ever. No need to even ask about Edsel.
