There is a lot of truth to what you are saying. Ford DOES NOT need to own 100% of these companies to be able to leverage their strengths. Mazda is a great example of this. I predict that Ford will continue to use platforms and technology (especially Volvo) even if these companies are sold by retaining part ownership.
I am one that would like to see Ford keep full control over Volvo, however if the cash made in a sale will help pay down debt and improve Ford's chances of a successful recovery then I am all for it, provided they can continue to use Volvo technology. I drive a vehicle with Volvo technology in it, it's called AdvanceTrac with RSC and yes it does work...it works extremely well.
