    Hey All,

Does anyone know of a reputable/good quality aftermarket stainless exhaust tip? I'm looking to convert my 2020 XLT exhaust from the ugly unfinished bent tip to that of the Limited trim, complete with the Limited bumper cover with exhaust cutouts. I inquired about the actual exhaust parts for a Limited but everything is one piece and would require a good half of the exhaust system to the tune of about $1,100.

    Thanks!

    TT

The tips are the way they are for Carbon Monoxide mitigation. Downward exit is a MUST.

  2. Sorry, but the SSM referenced ties the technician's hands until engineering comes up with a solution. My guess is there will be YET ANOTHER reprogram. 2020's are a nightmare that Ford keeps updating software over and over. For the time being, make sure all the silicone surrounds are in place around the sensor itself between it and the plastic outer and there are NO other contaminants there. Had one that had a snow brush bristle stuck there and causing a problem.

IF the tech might got lucky and was able to find an individual sensor issue, repairing it with a KNOWN "engineering is investigating" will probably get the claim bounced.

All the Fords I've ever had came with green (old Fords) or yellow/gold (Fords since early 2000s) coolant.  Orange was the death liquid GM made famous starting in the late 90s.  I personally lost an engine due to the previous owner pouring that orange GM crap into a Ford radiator that had green in it.  Turned the entire system to mud, could never get it out, and the engine suffered a slow death of running hot.

I was happy when Ford changed to yellow/gold about 20 years ago since it's long-life, safe to mix with any other color, and doesn't eat gaskets and aluminium like the GM orange does.  Hopefully whatever orange Ford was using for a few years wasn't the same GM crap.

Premium Green and Gold are NOT safe to mix with Orange or Yellow. Technically, Gold should not be mixed with Premium Green either. It does last longer, but it is NOT an OAT like "Specialty Green", Orange or Yellow.

This is outdated, but correct until the time Ford said Yellow directly replaces Specialty Green and Orange.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge SE and my windshield either keep getting fogged up and defroster blows air but not enough of directed to actually clear the windshield. I am not sure if the issue is that the windshield is very dusty or actually fogs up and I cannot clear it. I( purchased RainX Anti-Fog and that does not seem to make a difference.

When was the last time you serviced the cabin air filter? That would account for all your symptoms.

Being that Ford will not be producing a 2021 Edge I imagine that they will not put much effort into “fixing” the low speed shift problem in my 2019. Funny thing is that CR rated the Edge has the most reliable Ford. Oh woe is me!

What issues are you having? Which engine/trans?

This is giant failure waiting to happen. Smart phones today only work for so long before apps outgrow the hardware. Your phone slows down, it lags, apps crash. Pretty soon you have to constantly reboot your phone. Imagine that with your car infotainment center.

Personally, I wish cars would get away from those systems and go back to separate radios anc HVAC controls.

They can't make programming *in shop* work correctly WAY too often. Can't wait till this stuff bricks a PCM or other critical module sitting in someone's driveway or out on the highway.

    Hello,

As we all know the transmission on these cars are not good (I've had to get mine recently changed the clutch and TCM at 54,000KM with the car at 57,000KM now) Being in Canada I have been offered the extended warranty ( 7 year aka 4 more years left and 150KM aka 100KM left) for $2,600 plus tax Canadian. ($2,100 approx USD). It's the cheapest I've found. There is also a $100 deductible that would be payed for every warranty claim

I'm not sure if that's worth it or not since I'm pretty sure the TCM and clutch etc is probably going to go again (I believe it's about $1,700 or so from what they last did with the clutch, TCM change). Should I bother with the extended Ford warranty or just leave it alone and go about fixing it myself out of pocket when (not if as we all know) it happens again? Looking to keep the car as long as I can.

That's of course provided it's the same kind of replacement that is needed and not a whole new transmission. Any feedback/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Once in a VERY great while they will suffer an internal issue (almost always a worn syncro, broken drum stop or input shaft bearing), but clutches, TCM and actuator levers are most common. Being a 17, It is most likely not covered by 14M02, which covers the TCM to 10 years or 150,000 miles. If you were in the states, it would still be covered by EMISSIONS warranty for 8/80,000 but not sure about Canada.

Shudder is annoying, but that is it, annoying. Complete clutch failures (no vehicle movement) are scarce, and almost always caused by contaminant like oil, coolant, water getting into the clutch housing and damaging the levers.

  8. 6F15 is a scaled down 6F35. It is prone to all the ills that the 6F35 is, however I haven't seen issues with the solenoid pressure control valve in the valve body, like the 6F35 almost always does. The 1.0 uses a wet oil pump drive belt which seems to be an issue, especially in the early ones- believe there is a TSB. IF it shreds, the engine is toast.

No but it sounds like a cognitive disability which sometimes can be just as difficult. I have someone I my family with something kinda like what OP described so navigating to the back seat in a 2 door vehicle isn't as easy of a task as you would think, trust me I tried it in my Focus. Didn't go well.

Would depend on the 2 door. When my kids were small, my MN-12 Thunderbirds were about the best thing I ever had them in. I felt they were even better than the Taurus/Escorts/Focus I had concurrently. BIG door opening with the fold forward seat out of the way, they couldn't dick with doors or windows, they could step in and walk -not crawl- to their seats, and it was super nice in inclement weather to strap them in. Miss those old turds.

My middle kid is high function autistic, I can totally understand the specific need.

I get what you are saying and don't totally disagree. I will also give you that Escape has improved in almost everything over the outgoing generation. However, literally, Ford calls the Escape a "CUV" and the C-Max a car or "tall wagon", so yeah. ;)  This was as close to being a sellout as I could bring myself to be.

We've about decided we're done with these rolling computers. Wife wants an older sedan as her daily driver. Right now we're looking at the budget to build her 71 Torino GT convertible. Time will be more of an issue than money, but there isn't anything sold that's not over complicated or outrageously priced.

Weekend cruiser, heck yes, but a daily? You'd have to upgrade literally everything - brakes, suspension, engine, trans if it is an auto.

Have an '02 Taurus that just rolled over 100k so I'm looking to change out all the O2 sensors before the weather gets too cold.  I go to look up oxygen sensor in the old FSM to see what this is gonna look like and I can't find the term 'oxygen sensor' listed anywhere.  Not in either the Fuel System or Exhaust System sections or in the back index.  The closest it's referenced in one of the two previously mentioned sections is something like a 'catalytic monitor.'  And nowhere can I find the procedure for changing them out.

    Am I missing something here?

What is an "FSM"? Do you mean workshop manual? If you do, it is in the "Engine" section 303-14, Electronic Engine Controls.

The upstreams (Ford base number 9F472, green connector) are the only ones that affect fuel delivery. The downstreams (Ford base number 9G444, blue connector) are ONLY there for catalyst efficiency monitoring. You will probably find that they have all been superseded to a commonized sensor (think it is 9G444) and the end will have a white connector without exclusion tabs. DO NOT USE electrical grease or any other silicone based chemicals on ANY oxygen sensors.

  13. I've been at my job a long time. From where I stand, quality has been steadily dropping since 2012/2013. It is probably as bad as I have ever seen it in 27 years.

Let's be honest here, when quality falls, they take dollars out of the service department's pockets. Labor time cuts, parts handling cuts, TSB's that only exist to cut labor times to the bone. More and more hoops for the technician (RVC's, SSSC involvement, etc) that do not pay more for the same job. Flat out claim denial for the stupidest reasons. That is going to drive even more experienced people out, making service for an already bastardized vehicle worse for the consumer.
