  1. Someone on ttac.com was all giddy about the story, posting "Ford could use the Golf for a new Focus, Jetta for Fusion, and Passat for Taurus." Got shut down by other posters. Only way passenger cars will "make a comeback" is if Millennials start to buy more and demand them, brand new. Have to see what they actually do when they get higher income.
  2. This is why Detroit 3 are giving up cars, buyers demand rebates. So, only sell the products that make huge money after such discounts. But regarding Chevy trucks, best thing they can do to add value is merge with GMC brand. Some buyers are willing to pay more to have it.
  3. Ford's CAP plant is within the city of Chicago proper. 10700 S. Torrance Av.
  4. There was a "stockpile" of 2018 Escape SE's at dealers in Feb, when sister went shopping. They were built until Oct, but still wonder why so many? Could get $5000 off sticker easily. Was it to 'steer' former Focus owners?
  5. "Still in current production" [2011-19 Explorers] The Chicago plant is retooling for 2020 models, new generation. 2019 production ended 3/1/19. Not dismissing the claims, but clarifying that 2019 models in question are not in production anymore.
  6. East and West Coast investors need to be "impressed" to get the stock prices up, so lots of "sweeping announcements."
  7. Another thread had someone claiming there will be a "Mustang Sub-brand", will there be "Stang" pickups, cute-utes and 3 row SUV's? aka "Mustang Bronco"?
  8. Anyone with a computer can "Whip up" concept cars and claim that they are "future new products!". See "Return of AMC" or "2018 Pontiacs" on Google.
  9. Agree that there isn't going to be a "sub branding" of Mustang. Really? Who makes this stuff up? Next, we will see post of "return of Mercury Grand Marquis". Also, the full size Ford sedan is dead. Unless Millennials demand them, but don't bet on it.
  10. Buick will be the "chromier GMC" utility brand going forward. Regal is 'dead man walking'.
  11. FCA is lucky that Jeep has the 'rough and tough' image, dating back to WW2. "Jeep" still means the near 80 year old Military vehicle to many. When 'CJ' was being dropped in favor of Wrangler back in '87, there were protests, thinking the whole Jeep brand was going away. Every ad has to say "Jeep is a registered trademark..." though, so average people won't call anything 4x4 a "Jeep"..
  12. "... Explorer it has never been actually sold to the "working man" after 2011 redo," Ford did same with the 1965 LTD and '83 LTD Crown Victoria. Brought the full sized Ford family car upscale and the plain jane trims went to fleet cars. By the last CV's, were fleet only.
  13. IMO, the EcoSport is a huge flop. I never see any of them, even near O'Hare rental facilities. But, all over Chicago ex-ways, tons of Chevy Traxes, Buick Encores, and Honda HR-V's. Ford dealer didn't have one in showroom and encouraged Escape, when sister was thinking of considering new small UV. Glad she didn't buy that nerd-mobile! Ford should have a new EcoSport coming sooner, than later. And dump that goofy name! But seems like it's all "coming soon! Magic products!". When, what, and how much?
  14. So looks like future Utilities will get more car like, with smaller windows and lower roofs. Will there then be a backlash to a 'white space' segment?
  15. True about the Ranger coming back, but its somewhat larger then before. But, it is short term thinking to just "cut and run." Maybe they really are awaiting VW Group to buy them out?
  16. Make more "suicide door" Continentals, and bring in more money.
  17. "I could see them bringing back a C2 based Focus hatch or Fusion to fill out capacity. " I'd like to see that, but I don't think it will happen. When Millennials get more buying power will they demand new cars again? Compared to Gen X and Boomers who are gobbling up UV's and pick-ups.
  18. Interested in seeing when they go on sale, and what features, specs and trims will be.
  19. GM fan boys expect their company to still have lots of brands and be all over the globe, just for pride. They screamed when Opel was sold, thinking "just give it more time". Really? GM needs to make $$ not just build badge jobs to please fan boiys.
  20. "Test drives are over rated" ??? Wait until Millennials hit middle ages, and they actually start aging. [They will learn the hard way that they are not immortal] When their backs and a$$es are not "pliable" and young anymore, then they'll will want to make sure the car seat fits right. They will scream to high heaven when that happens, if not already. I heard a story about how furniture companies are doing OK with "old fashioned stores", since buyers actually want to see the products in person and try then out. So, no not everything can be "drop shipped" and all if fine.
  21. Corvette should be a separate GM division/brand, it virtually is anyway. Another issue with Vette is its image with younger car fans, who jokingly call it "mid life crisis car", and don't "dream of someday getting one".
