  1. I'm convinced Ford doesn't know how to make final decisions anymore. With their planning abilities these last few years, they'll cancel it, then revive it, then call it their most important product, then cancel it again and deny it ever existed.

  2. For the record, I’m not against unions. I’m against union tactics like strikes just to get more compensation - especially when it’s significantly higher than the rest of the market. It puts employers at a competitive disadvantage and it absolutely drives business to other states and countries. And it protects bad employees and stifles productivity. I’ve seen it first hand. I believe an employer has the right to determine employee pay. Period. If you don’t like the pay or benefits then go find another job.

  5. There was/is a replacement for the Corsair but I don’t know too much about that one except that it was also supposed to be built at OAC as well not LAP. Everything that was planned out has either been paused, cancelled or is being rethought as we speak. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the company so thrown off the game. Personally based on experience and how things get handled I think the EVs destined for OAC are being scrapped or rethought yet again. I heard the original design was being reconsidered with better battery tech. This is the body style that looked more boxy like an Explorer originally to be built in Mexico alongside the MME at Cuautitlán Assembly. What scares me is how much capacity Ford is going to have when all these plants are finished. Whether they are capable of ICE or EV production, there’s just too much capacity. Ford needs to add more vehicles to the portfolio whether ICE or EV to take advantage of all this capacity.

  6. They also don’t care if what they want to do actually works. What matters is they can say they did something and feel good about it and pat themselves on the back. Same applies to a lot of social issues like banning assault weapons.

  10. The interesting thing is Ford has them in China, they just don't export them, well except for the Mondeo which is exported to the Middle East as the new Taurus. The two mid-size sedan platform-mates of the all-new Nautilus. Ford Mondeo aka Taurus Lincoln Zephyr

  11. Please stop posting these ridiculous loss per vehicle figures. Ford lost $1.3B because of future investments and it wouldn’t have mattered how many Mach-Es and Lightnings they sold. Designing and engineering 7-8 new vehicles plus new factory designs along with new batteries and manufacturing techniques are extremely expensive and generate zero revenue.

  12. I am not a member of a union and I think my wage is pretty good. My position is you would not be able to get good employees if you weren’t paying a sufficient wage to entice them to work there. You may get poor quality workers to work for less, but your product will suffer because of it, as would sales. As such, your wage has to be commensurate with a quality workforce. The old saying, you get what you pay for, applies to many things. I would also argue the high-quality union workers would likely be making more money if they weren’t limited by the contract, and those problem workers would not be making the same amount of money as the good workers or they would be gone from the company.

  14. Nah, I was raised by someone who worked for the UAW and I was on strike when I was 17 years old working at a local grocery store for a few weeks. My old man said the union was pretty much useless outside of him being able to retire a little early due to the Edison plant being shutdown. The issue is that the vast majority of the time, the union is a self serving entity with ties to ideologies I don't particularly care for. Demographically unions may have more influence due to a shortage of workers due to smaller cohorts and labor becomes harder to fill in certain positions. But to blindly put your faith into a union is downright stupid.

  19. First, I understand these types of situations with contractual obligations and why Ford would not say anything publicly yet. Delaying the products 2 years gives them plenty of time to figure out what they want to do and do all the behind the scenes work before they make a public announcement. Second, Farley made it clear the future bet is on affordable EVs and even with new batteries I’m not sure 3 row vehicles would fit that description. Third, he said there will be a big push on ICE Hybrids. So IF the new EVs go to Louisville as rumored or to Mexico and they don’t do the 3 rows then OAC is available and the 2024 Nautilus is a big hit and would make a lot more profit if made in NA. It would also give them flexibility for C2 overflow. And support a hybrid C2 redesigned Edge. And maybe we’ll see a hybrid mondeo and zephyr at Flat Rock. Now I could be totally wrong and they will build the 3 rows as planned plus the others and leave Nautilus in China and ignore Edge. Wouldn’t be the first time they missed an opportunity.

  21. Also massive Chinese government subsidies throughout the EV ecosystem -- from mining, to refining, to processing, to components, to production. It isn't just batteries that China now dominates. It is pretty much everything. It will be difficult for the U.S. to duplicate that due to our own policy choices. For instance, because of environmentalist opposition -- the same folks that want us to go 100% electric ASAP -- it is almost impossible to open any new mining operation in the United States. The government just canceled a new copper mine (which would have given the country a whopping two) in Alaska that was already permitted due to enviro opposition. The U.S. has extensive rare earth resources (along with significant deposits of other relevant metals and minerals), but we just can't get to them.

  24. You are incorrect to believe most drivers in the U.S. can install home chargers. Older homes require service upgrades and a lot of areas don’t have the infrastructure to support it. It’s one thing for an apartment to install a few chargers and something entirely different to install dozens that would most likely be in use concurrently (and require rigorous scheduling if they can’t provide enough chargers for each tenant.). Readily available public chargers are a requirement for widespread adoption. It’s not physically or economically viable for everyone to charge at home.

  25. Placing all retail orders at the default priority code 19 means that all the orders are treated the same. As such, it means that the Dealer is doing nothing to manage and prioritize the order in which retail orders are scheduled. Forget that the order date will supposedly do the job. It's nonsense as the reality is that the scheduling system will schedule the order that's the easiest to schedule and with the fewest commodity or supply chain issues, etc. An F-450 Limited with priority code 19 since September 2023 will most likely never get scheduled. You're doing business with the wrong Dealer. It's their responsibility to manage their USOB (Unscheduled Order Bank) but they have done nothing! The Dealer should have assigned a much lower priority code and/or contacted the Ford Zone Manager or Regional Scheduler long ago to have the order reprioritized at 01 or 02 to expedite scheduling. The Dealer has wasted your time.

  28. Thats been my #1 issue with Ford mgt for many years now. They start things and either never follow through or they start then stop then make changes multiple times. Look how long it took for Bronco and a purpose built NA Ranger. They are too easily distracted by something perceived as being slightly better. As the old saying goes - great is the enemy of good. You delay or pass up good opportunities trying to do something great. And when the something great doesn’t pan out you’re SOL.

  29. Ford EV Partner CATL Debuts LFP Battery with 621 Mile Range https://fordauthority.com/2024/04/ford-ev-partner-catl-debuts-lfp-battery-with-621-mile-range/ CATL is already the world’s largest supplier of EV batteries, but the Chinese-based company isn’t exactly resting on its laurels, even as demand for those types of vehicles has waned as of late. Rather, it continues to develop longer-range batteries and fast-charging lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) units, and will also license its LFP tech to Ford for use at the under-construction BlueOval Battery Park Michigan site, as well as potentially other automakers, too. Now, CATL has debuted a new type of LFP battery that promises a driving range of 1,000 kilometers, or 621 miles per charge, according to Reuters. Dubbed the Shenxing Plus, this new LFP battery is the first of its kind to boast such a high range figure, which is notable because LFP batteries are known for being less energy dense than comparable lithium-ion units. The current version of this battery already boasts a 700 kilometer (435 mile) range, which is in use in four EVs currently, though 50 more are expected to adopt it by the end of 2024. For now at least, that list doesn’t include any Ford-branded vehicles, but CATL does supply the LFP battery present in the standard-range Ford Mustang Mach-E that debuted for the 2023 model year. That change added 45 horsepower to eAWD models while also cutting DC fast charging speeds, enabling those vehicles to charge to 100 percent without battery degradation while adding more range to boot – 250 miles for RWD and 230 miles for eAWD models. Meanwhile, the Ford F-150 Lightning is also slated to receive an LFP battery option at some point, though that hasn’t happened as of yet. LFP battery packs don’t use nickel or cobalt in their construction and are generally cheaper, safer, and can be charged to 100 percent without worrying about speeding up battery degradation, though they’re also not as energy dense as lithium-ion batteries.

  31. Nothing like Fordauthority recycling an old story. Nothing new here. I think the 3 rows are dead and Ford is still trying to decide what to put in Oakville. There is a case for C2 hybrid Nautilus and Edge and possible other C2 vehicles but there are contractual and government commitments that have to be considered. Other EVs are still possible but those are likely even further out.

  41. I hope me venting my frustrations on this forum about my small delay hasn't been contagious. My truck was released from Louisville plant and I received my truck yesterday, nearly 4 months to the day after placing my order at the dealer. Pretty darn quick, but sure felt like an eternity when I really need it for my job soon. (Literally TODAY) It's easy for me to tell you to trust the system, though bugged it may be, and to remain patient. Especially since that my truck is now in my possesion. I made all kinds of borderline offensive comments about how the company I trusted seemed to be losing my respect, and also about how I felt abandoned after being such a loyal customer for 30 plus years. Ford, I owe you an apology. Because I LOVE my new truck!

  42. Ford really screwed the pooch when they allowed Europe and North America to do their own thing pre Mulally. Had they gone global with C1 everywhere it could have evolved into C2 and had they gone ahead with global RWD unibody back in 2003 the product portfolio might look a lot different.
    3 points
  43. This right here is the summation of why Ford is the way it is. It’s also why the Premier Automotive Group was disabled. Mulally saw the culture at Ford and knew it couldn’t manage that much. That is still the case today.

  45. The bigger tire size on your Corsair results in a 3% speedo and odometer error. Going from a 40 to a 50 on the same width on an Aviator would be 7% error. So when your actual speedo reads 60mph you are at 62mph in the corsair, but would be at 64mph in the aviator. My suggestion, if you want taller sidewalls, would be to find a downsize wheel, 19's (245/50R19) or 18's (245/55R18) on the Corsair and 20's (275/50R20) or 18's (275/60R18, +1%) on the Aviator. Or you can take them to the dealership to have the speedo recalibrated for the larger tire size. To check if you are going to have clearance issues, you would need to measure your clearance lock to lock from the tread surface to the nearest contact point with the suspension fully compressed. The biggest tire you could put on would be just less than 2x the smallest clearance. So the stock tires are 31" you would need 1" minimum of clearance to fit a 33" tire (the new one you are looking at) and get it to just barely clear.
