  1. The four door Wrangler and Charger were also sacrilege. Seems to have really hurt their sales.

  2. I never understood this. Why would it alienate them if the real Mustang is untouched? Probe was a replacement for Mustang - they were killing it so that’s apples and oranges.

  3. The Baby Bronco/Maverick is an offshoot of an old program called Gen Y CUV or Short C CUV-which might have been killed off with the new product plan, or morphed into the new Puma. The styling was from design study for the Bronco (Ford was possibly going there with the name) before they decided to do the "proper" thing and go with the Ranger based product. What is most likely happening is that the size will be roughly the size of the 2013-2019 Escape (with the new one getting bigger) and share much of its parts bin.

  4. https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North America/US/2019/04/04/1q-19-sales.pdf Here's Ford's press release/Q1 numbers - Overall down 1.6% for the quarter - Ford down 2.1%, Lincoln up 11.2% And here's March 2019 numbers: I was able to figure out the discrepancies I was unsure of last month: --PI-S and PI-U numbers are rolled in to Taurus and Explorer numbers on the monthly chart, while Ford breaks them out separately on their quarterly chart. --Heavy trucks I couldn't find monthly numbers for, but are reported quarterly in Ford's chart. I will include these numbers in the third/last month of each quarter to accurately account for overall YOY total numbers - this will throw off the monthly tallies for heavy trucks (and I guess overall monthly volume will be off by a few hundred units too), but it's what I'm able to find!

  6. The Company sure seems to have a lot goin on.Should be a smooth contract.I think Ford will be the target because it has no major obstacles like GM {plant closings} or FCAU {corruption investigation}.If the UAW can get a quick deal done with Ford that will pressure the other 2.Ya wanna strike, fine.Ford will gladly eat your lunch,I mean sell more trucks and SUV`s.The old union guy inside me would like to see a better shake for the temps as well as something a little extra for the retirees.

  7. To me it's not really a question of whether or not they want to right now, it's whether or not they need to, and right now they don't. The primary focus is and should be getting things running and bringing in more of what we need to keep running, like parts racks and body skids. If somehere down the line they need to speed the line up and build more I really don't see a reason why they can't. We'll see what happens when the paint shop gets it's overdue upgrades and the Bronco comes in.

  8. I just had a thought-maybe Ford is intentionally attaching and flirting with the Mustang name attached to the C class BEV just to give it more attention and make it more of an aspirational product, instead of a boring compliance product.

  9. Maverick and the Maverick based truck I think. And Escape/Corsair overflow if necessary.

  10. ...and, well, if you look at the new SUV/crossover Escape, it is styled like a sedan, it rides low like a sedan, it will probably drive like a sedan. What it lacks is that close back window with the ledge where you can place the bobble-head dog looking back (or line up a bunch of plush toys) and the trunk is taller and has glass around it.

  11. I still say that decision was based more on needing plant capacity for new models which is why Fusion stays around for another couple of years. Without Ranger and Bronco taking over MAP we’d probably still have Focus. What was stupid and shortsighted was how they announced it.

  12. A future Lincoln sedan would be interesting if they call the SWB version Zephyr (conventional four door sedan) and the LWB version Continental (coach door four door sedan)

  13. I have seen quite a few of the new style VW Jettas running around my area, so while sedan sales are not where they used to be, they certainly aren't dead.

  14. 2.7/3.0 might start stepping on the coyotes toes, especially after the tuners crank up the boost. When I hear "entry level performance model", I think of an extra stripped down (no electronic gizmos/nav/etc, steel wheels, cheap cloth seats, no tinted glass, etc) mustang that comes with a coyote under the hood, all for less than $30k.. Obviously others are interpreting this differently.

  15. Ford sales for the quarter down about 9,000 covering most of the +29,000 drop in car sales, the transition continues, I just wish they would rethink Fusion going away, why not give it the 8-speed auto like Mondeo now has or even just use the Mondeo 5-door hatchback.. MKZ sales are still strong so I wonder if a future merge of it and Continental on one SWB/LWB vehicle would be a more effective plan than killing both.

  17. He only came here to show off his inside information and when he got stuff wrong and got called out on it he did exactly that - pitched a hissy-fit and left just like last time.

  18. There's still too many hiccups for me to feel comfortable saying production is ramped up. Yes, Final is moving at full speed but there's still stoppages to fix snags. Same with Body shop.

  21. Can you imagine by the end of year, with the Aviator and Corsair in the Lincoln lineup.

  22. Nautilus and Expedition are the two great and good surprises among the passenger cars. Transit, F and E truck series are strong too. Even this year there will be Escape, Explorer, Aviator and Corsair on this chart

  23. The problem with Ford is that like stated before-they keep going through a boom and bust period every 10-15 years. Most the issue is with middle management-that was very pointed with Mullaly leaving-they reverted back to the same Mickey Mouse bullshit they where doing for the past 10-15 years prior to that. Hopefully they have enough of an institutional change that it actually sticks this time around.

  26. This thing looks like a Mustang. Is a Mustang for a time without sedans and cars. This thing will carry the “eléctric” pony badge at the front of the body. And this thing will be called Mustang Mach E. And this is good for Ford because this thing will be selling like hotcakes.

  27. I think that's exactly why they're doing it. The Mustang name automatically brings a level of coolness and desirability to the product and it'll likely attract customers that wouldn't necessarily want a Ford. Unfortunately, I think Ford will alienate the millions of current Mustang owners instead. If this does end up called Mustang and/or feature the pony badge, it'll be the biggest mistake since Ford tried to make the 4th Gen Mustang a transverse FWD coupe. Fortunately, back then, after the Mustang faithful let them know in no uncertain terms, the back-tracked and called it the Probe and we got the SN95 instead.
