  1. looks pretty much identical to the new focus (seen above). Guess I should have known that would be the case. I think it’s a pretty big improvement over the current one.

  4. There's a HUGE strike going on at a bunch of Mexican plants near the US/Mexico border and I suspect that is where the effected parts are made. I posted about it in the Employee forum.

  5. JLR is not big enough to justify the capital investment. But growing volume is not easy and this is where JLR finds itself now... in the middle of the deathzone. Too small to cover fixed cost but too big to make a profit. Tata really needs to decide what it wants out of JLR. If this is a vanity project then fine... just periodically write off your investments. But if they want this to be a real business, they need to decide if they want volume or boutique. The volume strategy will require massive downscale vehicle investments and platform/drivetrain/parts sharing with other Tata models. The goal would be to turn Jaguar and Land Rover into high volume middle market brands while leaving Range Rover as the luxury offering. The boutique strategy will require abandoning the middle market and the entry luxury segment altogether and just focus on the high end Range Rovers and one or two ultra lux Jaguar sedans and sports cars.

  6. It's why it needs to open both ways...drop down when trailer is attached, or side swing open when no trailer is there...imagine that wagon with a trailer hitch, same issue then as you bring up now.

  8. Well, in order to be a Black Label dealer, the dealership had to upgrade their facilities to whatever standards Ford/Lincoln has for BL dealers. So if said dealerships aren't willing to invest in that upgrade, they won't be BL dealers.

  9. Gears turning here - I wonder if Ford has designed this block with DOHC 4V in future plans - Just looking at what Mercury Marine Racing achieved with the LS7. NA 750 HP & 570 lb/ft from 7 Litres.

  10. Will be interesting to see if "kits" appear to "drop in" this new engine in vintage cars/trucks.

  15. C-Max wheelbase: 2,648mm / 104.3" Escape (current gen) wheelbase: 2,690mm / 105.9" Grand C-Max wheelbase: 2,788mm / 109.8" "Grand Escape" wheelbase: ??? but let say longer than current Grand C-Max Edge/S-Max/Galaxy wheelbase: 2,850mm / 112.2" Explorer wheelbase: 3,030 mm / 119.1" So you can kind of see the logic here for Ford... they think buyers in Europe that wants a SUV bigger than 5 seat Kuga will want 7 seats because they are coming out of minivans for the most part. And remember the current Edge shares everything with S-Max and Mondeo... including the wheelbase. So if you can stretch a C2 into 112" wheelbase, it doesn't really matter if the car is called "Edge" or "Kuga" because it will have 7 seats and shaped like an SUV... something Ford Europe has not sold before. And in case you are wondering if that is feasible... just remember that Transit Connect already has a longer wheelbase than Edge so C1 (and C2 by default) is able to handle that kind of stretch. And for people that want a really big SUV, Ford is going to bring the Explorer which will be better positioned against the luxury brand offerings in terms of value. So the VW line up where Ford gets inspirations from shows their thinking. For comparison purpose to VW: Golf Sportvan wheelbase: 2,637mm / 103.8" (comparable to C-Max) Tiguan SWB: 2,681mm / 105.6" (comparable to Escape) Touran wheelbase: 2,791mm / 109.9" (comparable to Grand C-Max) Tiguan LWB: 2,791mm / 109.9" (comparable to Escape 7 seat LWB) Touareg wheelbase: 2,904mm / 114.3" (comparable to Edge/Explorer) Sharan wheelbase: 2,919mm / 114.9" (comparable to S-Max or Galaxy)

  16. An aftermarket kit wouldn't be too shocking. Same way you'd get a SFA under the front of a '80-'96 Bronco or a SRA on a 2015+ Mustang.

  17. Considering there's a younger generation of Fords pretty involved in the company I doubt that's the case. Elena Ford, Calvin Ford and Henry Ford III all hold positions in the company and I'm sure they are not the only ones. Elena Ford Interview Calvin and Henry Ford III interview If the younger generation didn't want anything to do with it maybe it would be different, but I'm sure the older Fords like Edsel II or Bill will do all they can to keep the company independent and the family in control. Family control for almost 120 years is actually one of the neatest things about Ford. If you do much research the family is very proud and protective of the Ford Motor Company. I don't see that changing anytime soon unless something goes completely wrong. Controlling the company Henry Ford founded is about a lot more than money for that family. That makes me proud to be a Ford driver. I don't know if it's still the case, but for generations a lot of Ford employees would tell you they work for "the Fords" not for just "Ford."

  18. The article says the engineers were surprised by this announcement. Sounds like damage control from the terrible reviews comparing to the Aviator. But they will still probably be years away on a plug in hybrid version. Ford will need to answer the "Super Cruise" challenge.

  19. Tails... maybe. Headlights no. We think vertical headlights because the Art and Science look since the mid 90s. Maybe a couple of 70s models. Did ya know Ford sold more vertical taillight Econoline than Cadillac sold cars?

  20. I don't see your point. Vertical lighting is a Cadillac hallmark.

  23. I can understand why it's easy to just "change" an exterior to fit a market. I don't see an issue where the same vehicle is the same underneath, but its styled aggressively for one client, and softly for another client. Mecury isnt around, so if you can gear it towards one group, and butch it up for another crowd, why not.
