  1. I don't know why you keep doing that. We definitely appreciate the information, but it's from time to time wound up not being accurate - and that's nobody's fault - info gets mixed up through the grapevine (telephone game), or sometimes plans change without your sources knowing. And it's also ended up right. You don't have to run away because a few have pointed out some info you've provided has wound up inaccurate. I still like hearing what info you do have - it gives us things to talk about, discuss, evaluate, etc. The reality is, no piece or shred of info is true or false until Ford itself officially confirms/denies such info. We just have to sift through the information, rumors, pictures, etc. and figure out what we can with what we have. You provide us with pieces to the puzzle, and sometimes they fit, sometimes they don't. That's part of life.

  2. A-fricken-MEN! I totally agree, esp. on the concept of EV's being good in urban areas. I work in A2, and EVs will make total sense in this kind of enviroment. However - until "Doc" invents the flux-capacitor and the "Mr. Fusion" for electric vehicles, the prospects of sitting stranded on a cold snowy isolated road in Northern Michigan in dead of winter with a completely drained EV has NO appeal to me whatSOever. A gasoline-hybrid would be the largest step I'll be taking into that realm until A.) petrol is non-existent or prohibitively expensive or B.) "Doc" shows up with the DeLorean! ? LOL -Ovaltine

  7. WHY are they waiting so long to update the Nautilus? The exterior is fine but the interior is so dated and once the Aviators are on the lots, the contrast between the two will be quite something. I have a Grand Cherokee right now but I'd love to get a Nautilus - IF it had that fantastic interior from the Aviator. As it is, the current vehicle just isn't a big enough upgrade and the Aviator will be too big and expensive.

  8. It'd be nice for them to have a hybrid Navigator out before Escalade (assuming one is in the works) to make it look like Escalade is following Navi's lead.

  9. we had a saying in new Zealand....Nil Basteedo Carborundum….something I think was made up when a bunch of us had pimples in Science class, basically in pubescent talk it translates to Don't let the Bastards grind you down...I for one appreciate the input, regardless if it pans out or not, heck Ive had rumors first hand ( SHO Fusion which was apparently a AWD BEAST for one ) that never saw fruition, but I wouldn't let dis-believers piss me off to the point of leaving....ignore their asses...rumors are juicy , irrespective if they come to fruition or not....and one hell of a lot more exciting than Fords tight lipped media outlets...which flip flop all the time anyways. Cheers Borg.

  10. This forum can be tiresome. Do yourself a favor and take a few month vacation from BON. I did this after a totally ridiculous thread sometime last year. I discovered there's more to life than reading a forum about my favorite car company. Remember, it's only a forum and is not that important. Family and friends are more important than people's opinions on BON.

  11. This Ranger has credibility for operating on inhospitable terrain on the world stage, and certainly isn’t just a pretty soft-roader. I had counterparts that used them overseas while I was there under poor conditions and they were very robust. I found their review to be relatively informative and pretty reasonable.

  12. To get the advertised power and fuel economy you need to use 93 octane. However, you can use 87 or 89 or 91 octane with no problem but you'll get a little less power and maybe slightly worse fuel economy. Try a tank of 87 and a tank of 93 and see if you can feel the difference and then decide if it's worth the extra cost. Most people end up running 87 most of the time.

  17. No but I understand a lot. Look at it this way - no matter which way you go, you'll need the charging infrastructure to charge the batteries whether they're inside or outside the vehicle. So that's a few thousand per charger one time cost and might require upgraded service from the local utility, although I'm sure newer stores are already designed with that in mind. So the difference is having to stock enough batteries (and different types if there isn't a single standard) that you can always have several charged and ready to go AND you need special equipment to be able to swap the batteries in a timely manner. I said neither was "easy and low cost" but stocking and changing batteries is absolutely more expensive than just doing chargers because you need the chargers either way.

  18. I agree with you there. If you’re not going to build it within 12-18 months of first mentioning it (4-8 months after showing it, though I would like to see it closer to 2-3 months but that's just me) then shut up about it. If you insist on discussing it 2-3 years early then you better be ready to give people some kind of payoff periodically to keep up the anticipation.

  19. But then we'd have a Bronco scenario - talk about a product 3-4 years before it comes out? That doesn't do anyone any good.

  20. The casual ones do. The diehard fans still care about Ford v Chevy v Toyota. And because I can't figure out how to split quotes the way I used to know how to do it with this new format, here's a list I found on reddit of what races will have the new restrictor plate... er, sorry... tapered spacer package (read: pack racing) which limits horsepower to 550

  21. It's not that simple. It's the everlasting agenda by Hackett to cut costs no matter what. If what BORG says is correct and the cost cuts will be painfully obvious on the new Escape, and at this point (even with his sometimes questionable track record), I have no reason to doubt that at all. My bitch with the Bronco Hybrid is they announced its coming a year ago, reconfirm it a week ago and now I've heard from multiple people that it's been canned due to cost cuts. So yes, I'm done until the board wakes up and brings in a CEO who knows that the way to sustainable profitability in this industry is more than just hacking and slashing budgets and cheaping out any way they can and isn't named Jim Farley. But hey, at least something is finally being done with Michigan Central Station ?

  22. Apparently-if that wasn't the case, you wouldn't have seen the nearly finished Mini Bronco/Maverick at the dealer meeting-I'm assuming that they where doing design studies at the time and weren't sure what path they where going with it. There's been references to the Gen Z crossover for a year or two before this, so who actually knows and alot changed suppositly when Fields got fired-but IMO it didn't with new products, because the RWD Explorer was suppositly fast tracked, even though it was rumored for the past 24 months or so before that. Just look at the general stupidity of what happened in 2017 with different products and management. They really screwed the pooch with this. Ford is pulling their own Camaro relaunch with this- the concept came out in 2006 , but didn't launch til 2009 or so. I'm assuming the issue is timing with the NG Ranger-since the Bronco will be on the next gen T6 frame.

  23. Bronco is not on the chopping block - it's exactly the kind of vehicle that can demand higher ATPs and profit margins. I didn't see the need for a hybrid version personally, but if Wrangler is doing one then they might need it to compete. Maybe they're skipping the hybrid and going full BEV?

  27. Yes sir! Electrified vehicles represent the future of cars and light trucks, including pickups. Ford's announcement of BEV F-150 suggests that development of that truck is now in full swing. I think Ford is in the strongest position to capitalize on the huge market opportunity for electrified pickup trucks. Tesla is next, wouldn't be surprised if their long rumored pickup truck is confirmed this year. Whether my bet wins or not come 2025, I'll gladly invite you to my family's house for beverages and Texas barbecue. I'll probably have at least one BEV car or truck by then.

  28. I don't know about best selling but I will take any bet that says PHEV, hybrid (mild or parallel), and EV trucks combined will be 50% of the light duty market by 2025 - so anything up to F-150 size. My guess is F-150 sales mix in 2025 will look something like this: I4 turbo: 15% V6 turbo: 30% V8: 5 % hybrid (perhaps V6): 20% PHEV (either I4 or V6 or V8... not sure how the market will evolve yet): 20% EV 10% I remember making a post very similar to this one a few years ago when Ford was introducing the 3.5 Ecoboost. I said within 5 years, majority of F-150 sales will not be V8 and lots of people here called me crazy ?

  30. 10-15 years down the road?? Mass market BEVs are readily available now! The best selling domestic brand car in the U.S. last month was a BEV. The best selling domestic brand truck will be a BEV too in a few years. That truck will either be BEV Ford F-Series or the Tesla pickup by the mid 2020s.

  32. There are a few upsides coming in 2019 globally. Brazil is starting to back as a market. And then there is China. 2018 is a year to forget there. The all-new Focus and Territory should raise sales.

  33. One of the issues bringing the early T6 Rangers to the US was that the engine bay was set up for Inline engines, so adding the 3.5 V6 in say, 2011 or 2012 would have taken longer to engineer as the only other engine choices were the 2.5 1-4 or the 2.0 Ecoboost which would have been less competitive against the other V6s. not saying that it couldn’t have been done, but ford was just flat out not interested until Late 2016, so no matter what any of us thought was possible, Ford didn’t see the need to spend money to sell it. IMO, it could have been Built at MAP from 2011 and Focus built in Mexico with Fiesta. Imagine how that changes the production landscape compared to today.

  35. The fundamentals of any business are to respond to the market. The market is clearly moving towards all-electrics eventually. Not doing a BEV F-Series truck would be the mistake that broke the company.

  36. Did you read the Free Press article? A quote: “Tesla is talking about coming out with an electric pickup. And look what Tesla has done in the luxury segment. They’ve clobbered just about everybody,” McElroy said. “You can’t pooh-pooh that people won't be interested in an electric pickup. Rivian Automotive is coming out with an all-electric pickup. These are the crown jewels for Ford Motor Co., the F-Series. Ford has got to react to competitive threats.”

  37. It wasn't clear if the 30% market share he was talking about was cars or just sedans. 30% for all cars means sedan + wagon + coupe + hatchback + convertible. It's possible but I would peg that number closer to 20%. We are already at 30% and falling so I don't see that number holding in the long run. 30% for sedans is crazy talk. It's already below that number.

  38. Here is the reason why EV's will not "take over" nationwide....say you are cruising along in your brand new EV in rural "resume speed" Iowa...not a charging station for miles and miles and for whatever reason, you didn't get enough charge last time you were plugged in and you run out of "zap"....in an ICE powered vehicle, you could hike on down the road for a can of gasoline, hike on back, pour it in and off you go...what would you do with that EV....you just cannot run out and get a can of electricity and pour it in.... EV's will work great in urban areas, it is the rural areas that are the issue....and in the the good ole US of A, there are a LOT of rural areas to contend with...

  39. Wow - was not expecting them to drop all the cars. I guess that’s why Mustang isn’t moving to CD6 - they don’t have any other cars to share the cost. Do you know if Nautilus moves to CD6 or C2?

  42. Timberline is debuting with SuperDuty, I've speculated that it's their luxury trim line but it could be their off-roading version. I've been waiting to see a Ford's "Denali" trim-line instead of their generically badged Platinum and Limited series. But it would certainly make sense if they wanted a rugged line that isn't a Raptor. FX4 Max seems more likely for that purpose however. Bronco's Hybrid was suppose to arrive a year late, but the Hybrid was jeopardizing their launch schedule on-top of being costly, so they axed it from the program. It's encouraging however that the Ranger arriving in 2-3 years will still be a hybrid. The Mach-E is actually arriving the same time as Bronco. I don't think it's a big deal, it will happen eventually and the Bronco isn't exactly targeting hybrid buyers in the first place. I will be departing this board. I'm doing my honest best here and I keeping getting abuse for it despite giving a tremendous amount of accurate information which was just proven with the debut of Explorer and Aviator and will again be proven accurate with the debut of Escape and Corsair. This hast just turned into a shitty place to waste time, haha. I want to protect my sources, they don't need me sharing this anyway. The good news is that nobody seems to be taking it seriously anyway.
