  1. Oil isn't a stable energy source. Basing the global economy on something so volatile isn't good. You're delusional if you think otherwise.
  2. It’s stupid’: why western carmakers’ retreat from electric risks dooming them to irrelevance
  3. As I understand it, the new energy standards are based on carbon emissions. Am I mistaken? Diesels are dirty and expensive, and will continue to be phased out.
  4. I feel like you missed my point There is a concept in economics called substitute EVs are a substitute for vehicles that use oil. Encouraging more efficient use of oil by moving to a cheaper and more plentiful resource is smart. and preserves oil for those uses that can't easily be substituted. Australia isn't banning ICE sales, much like the US they are tightening emissions standards to encourage the sale of new energy vehicles.

  6. Meanwhile, the world is at war over Oil with no end in sight. While OZ, having abundant solar, and wind, wants to move back to oil? Make it make sense.
  7. Never forget that the states even with higher gas taxes are also receiving federal dollars not paid for by road users. Instead are being paid from income taxes. In essence, you're asking every American taxpayer to subsidize the construction and maintenance of roads they may not use. All of this adding to an out of control federal deficit. The irony is that subsidizing fuel costs. You are making it more costly to move towards a cleaner and less expensive alternative, like EVS or other forms of transportation.
  8. This is the problem Since 2008, more than $275 billion - including $118 billion from the 2021 infrastructure law - has been shifted from the general fund to pay for road repairs. The highway system was based on users paying for road maintenance and construction, we haven't had a this system for very long. Resulting in Deficit Spending to support Road maintenance. AKA a subsidy
  9. Fourth power law - Wikipedia The Reality is that, although measurable, the Actual wear on the roads due to weight isn't as great as people think it is. The difference in your example is ~16 to 1 or 16x the wear of the 3500lbs vehicle. This is insignificant when compared to the Wear caused by medium and large trucks. Which are over 10,000 times that of a 4,000 lbs vehicle
  10. I agree! Mileage-based fees are the fair way to go. Even an Equivalent Fee based on the Gas tax makes sense. The Elephant in the room is that the gas tax has not kept up with inflation, and was last raised in 1996, the year I graduated high school.

  12. This is some impressive technology 800v Architecture 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque 440 miles of range DC charging at up to 400kW,
