  1. Is the return 3/8" rubber? If so, it could be that it flexed and cracked.
  2. The Ford Motor Company factually owns the trademark COBRA for all automobiles and has since 1963. Moreover, Ford also owns the Cobra emblem and any iteration of. Shelby has zero ownership in COBRA. Ford licenses Shelby to use the COBRA mark on roadster models only -. Aside from using the COBRA mark on the roadster, Shelby cannot use the COBRA marks on goods / merchandise. While I was at Shelby, Ford made us discontinue all usage of the COBRA mark on apparel, drinking glasses, etc. Ford also owns the "tiffany" emblem, which was used on the side fenders of the 2007-2014 GT500s. Shelby was only allowed to use that logo provided it appeared with the "Shelby" or "GT500" mark. On the other hand, Ford could not use the "Shelby" or "GT500" mark with the tiffany snake logo with paying Shelby licensing fees. The only snake logo, which Ford didn't really didn't contest was the one used on the 1969 Shelby Mustang GTs - internally, at Shelby we called this logo the "Drunk" or "Twisted" snake (photo below). Ironically, Shelby didn't have anything to do with the 1969 model year. As a side note, Ford does not own the GT350, GT500 or GT500KR "King of the Road" marks.
  3. It's a very complicated relationship for certain. While I was at Shelby, Shelby Las Vegas (manufacturing) didn't get along well with Shelby Calf (licensing, legal, etc). As one example, Shelby Calf. never told Shelby Vegas that they had moved the rights to the GT350 to Ford and away from Shelby - all while Shelby Vegas was wastefully mapping out a next-generation GT350. On another spectrum, Shelby Vegas generally didn't want any part of Ford. Ironically, I was one of the very few people at Shelby who supported Ford. Carroll Shelby constantly told us that we need to play and be nice to Ford -. After the 2008 Shelby GT500KR, Ford essentially parted ways and Shelby moved from the Speedway to a much smaller facility - the days of joint ventures were doomed. Shelby Calf. constantly pushed for higher and higher licensing fees and other demands and that pushed Ford to move along...one can only milk the same cow for so long. Even though my personal relationship with Ford was in the negative digits, whatever I requested from Ford for Shelby, we got it. Ford has their ways and they are sometimes not easy to deal with, but at the end of the day you have to play in their sandbox.....if you want to play.
  4. These was a push internally for a return of the Mustang SVO, but it never transpired. That was a missed opportunity. I seriously doubt that we'll see another Shelby anything for quite a while - if ever. Ford wants to capture an entire new generation, while disposing of iconic names. It runs counter to Ford's insistence on heritage branding though.
  5. One of THE MOST exciting Shelby products that I ever drove was a modified '86 GLHS on a road course - a lot to handle, but waayyyyy fun. Carroll Shelby had 4 or 6 of them - I've have to dig up the photos of his garage and post them up one day.
  6. I was talking to someone on the Ford Licensing side for the Mustang - Warner Bros. (owner of the Bullett name) has increased licensing fees to atmospheric levels. The cost Warner Bros. presented to Ford is actually eye watering - way over and beyond what Ford paid to Shelby for the GT350 and GT500 names.
  7. The original name for the 2007 Shelby GT500 was: Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Shelby GT500 - I still have all of the emails on that one! I feel the same way, however I am not certain why. The overall Mustang's excitement just doesn't seem to be there....
  8. How does this compare to other brands, like GM, Toyota?
  9. That's a pretty awesome Cobra - and some cool build history as well. I have a 2008 GT500KR, which was also built as a show vehicle. Aside from what you mentioned, Flat Rock built ones had extra hot melt sound deadening from Mazda applied inside. Not sure if Dearborn-Rouge did that with their show vehicles or not?
  10. Looks so sweet - love the red interior! I have two 1969s - one is Royal Maroon with a 428SCJ - don't know which axle it originally came with, however it's a C6 auto that I am converting over to a four speed top loader. The other has a 351C-4V in it (not original).
  11. What's your "R" code? I have a 1969 Mustang Mach1 R.
  12. I kinda have a thing for red ‘69s, love the Mach in you’re circle.

Honestly Carroll was one of my hero’s as well as a nice guy. I meet him at  lime rock raceway many years ago he didn’t disappoint.

BTW there’s a ‘69 GT350 convertible hiding in the stable as well
