Actually I think they can as long as they pay the taxes. Look at Westinghouse in London it's been empty for the past 25 years and they just finished the clean-up of the PCB's even though it's been leaching into the nearby creek for years also Philips Canada closed for at least 10 years building still remains empty, McCormicks, the company just closed up shop and left the building it still stands vacant. Until they decide what to do or find a buyer for the building it may be there for years. I never even knew it was there until I was hired... after August 31st, I probably will never drive past it again so I don't care if the F****er burns to the ground.

Agreed on most points you stated here rscalzo dealer profit and ford profit are two different things. Most police departments put their orders in our plant themselves we had the Ontario Provincial Police order 50,000 units last year alone For makes tremendous profit on all of these units GM, CV, and the TC what the dealer makes on them is a whole different ballgame probally not alot maybe you are right in the 1k area for the dealer but if it 2k per unit times the 80 to 90 thousand units this year that would be only 180k profit which I highly doubt. The market is huge for the police , fleet sales if it wasn't why does everyone try to get a peice of it? Its because it is guaranteed sales. Bet you didn't know many of our units are shipped to the middle east, actually quite a few. Ford has stated the new PI will be the Taraus and it won't cut it as a police unit that why GM is coming out with the Caprice in 2011 they will again capture the market like they did in the 80's. The Taraus is 26k base model 48k for the SHO if they can't sell it for less no department is going to buy it. They would lose plenty on the resale it would be worthless 26k for a car with 80k driven for around a year and a half not to mention the ware and tear it wouldn't be worth more the 12k half of what it was new and it's less then 2yrs old who in the hell could afford to replace it every year. I put my bet on the Caprice as the new PI in 2011.

I am teling you that ford makes 6k per unit profit and about 12k to15k on the TC I don't care what the dealer is making the units are already sold when they leave our plant they are made to order the request comes in and we build it management has told us what the profit is for ford on these units I get my facts from the top we build them, we should know if you don't take my word for it ask anyone else that works there that posts on this forum they will confirm it! If ford was only making 1k profit on these units they would have pulled the plug years ago. If you dig a little deaper you would find out that STAP was in the top 3 profit producing plants in north america last year and we are down to one shift the other two were the Focus plant and the f150 plant.

rscalzo due some research before you post comments I work at STAP. Its true that the car is about 19k but there is profit like around 6k per sale and then the town car is about 14k per unit the GM is about 10k same for the CV when it was available to the public. St. Thomas assembly plant were building 225, 000 per year of these in 2001-02. Ford makes over a billon dollars from this plant anually even with the sales way down at about 75,000 units so there is profit and plenty of it. Ford has turned away over 60,000 orders in the past year in order to kill off the panther. The plant is paid off, very low taxes on the property and still produces 450 cars per day on one shift after one 8 hour work day the wages are paid for the week that leaves about 450 units per day for another 4 day which is about 1800 units add the 7000 profit per unit so there is money to be made problem some boneheads decision in Detroit stopped sales to the public not because the CV, CM and TC, aren't wanted any more it's because they last too long. If you think that the Taraus is gonna be safer have better gas mileage maybe a little but that will be offset buy repairs, total unit replacement and almost guaranteed more fatalities. Ford could have totally redesigned the vehicle inside and out with different engine options and reopened it to the public probally extending the life of it quite a few more years but chose not to thus ending Fords footprint in the police and fleet market. It all a big cycle Dodge had the market back in the 70's then Chevy in the 80's, Ford in the 90's up to the present Dodge tried to take it back with the Charger but failed now Chevy is threatening with the new Caprice in 2011. Ford will fail with the Taraus and in a couple of years either launch the Falcon as the new police interceptor of come out with the new Crown Vic to try and steal the market back..... companies are getting so predictable!

Thanks best wishes to all you guys over there in the U.S. kinda wish we were still apart of the UAW at least some of your union brothers said enough shit and are backing you guys up as for us we are done at STAP but that doesn't mean we can't wish the best to you guys over there good luck with your fight!
-
The union reps are on the floor but that means shit any more it's so funny Steve Hamilton walks around with blank paper so if you have a question about the contract you can write it down and the union will get back to you.... funny he was on the bargaining committee shouldn't he have all the answers about the contract or is the union making up the answers as they go, just seems like they forgot to tell us a shit load of stuff!
-
If Scott Smith has been there so long he sure does a good job hiding thats my point and there is nothing wrong with my math but there is something wrong with your fuckin attitude I care about my fellow employees and friends that are going to lose the shirt off their back you seem to be only worried about yourself your fuckin login name reflects that, you should have done us all a favor and stayed on vacation you dumb fuck!!

Nice post Allford1 people should be able to voice their opinion. Just because they are showing a little animosity towards the union they are labled union bashers.....give me a break! I have been at STAP for 17 years and the CAW was strong but now they fold at the drop of a hat. If there was an issue with a plant supervisor the committee man would be in their face so fuckin fast they didn't know what was coming today they reason with the supervisor and usually the union comes to the conclusion the employee was wrong and sides with the company. Years ago if a plant was closing the doors would be chained shut or there would be a strike, not today, the union comes crawling on their knees (according to Ken) and asks the company where they can kiss their ass totally gutless. It seems that the union is more for then the company then the average employee. Shit I wouldn't put it past the union to take a bribe from the company just to get a contract through. If these people that are so PRO-UNION don't like people voicing their opinion about the union than stay the fuck off the site. At least the UAW stuck together and said enough of this shit... at least they have balls. The new CV police intercepter isn't being launched until 2011 you really think that the ball wasn't in our court if we said No! Like fuck, there were orders do you think Ford would have just walked away from the market or could have moved the entire panther platform overnight? If it went back to Wixom they would have had to re-train an entire workforce then get the launch off within weeks to fill the orders, face it our union totally let us down. Now it is going to be built in the States the UAW thinks the CAW are a bunch of pussies, can you really blame them!!!!

Why don't you go fuck yourself Framer we have been scheduled 10 hours for years but haven't worked overtime at all since last year, except once. Wasn't it the company that told us absolutely no overtime then when body couldn't keep up they went 10 hrs and 11hrs now they pull the same shit with us. Why the fuck were we laid off last week if we were short cars? The week before it was 7.7 7.8 7.9 we were making to a number. Next week I heard 9's or 10's all week... bullshit! It's Christmas and the CEO's won't get their bonuses if STAP doesn't make the company a little more profit, let's squeeze a little more blood out of the stone. The problem was with the engines when we went home 3 weeks ago last time I checked Monday was the start of the work week for us, Ford and the union knew we were short cars but chose today to inform us about overtime like they couldn't have told us Monday that just passed or start us next week to give us some notice. You are the same fuck that always defends the union I didn't even see you at the ratification meeting were you up front under the table servicing Kenny? You must have your time in so do us all a favour and fukin retire. Ask anyone with 20 to 27 years in that will miss out on their pension and they will all say they got fucked buy our union and if you don't think so you are even dumber then what you have been posting on this site! Windsor transmission got a better deal then us so did GM and Chrysler didn't you read their contract that went around the plant? Ask anybody with half a brain I'm sure they would love to read it for you. And why do you protect Scott Smith so much? I have been there 17 years he has been there 4, I have seen him on the floor a total of 3 times once was when he was running for plant chairman so if thats not hiding in the office what the fuck do you call it? The last contract is in place what the fuck do we even need him for? The hole fuckin world knows what our buyout was why don't we know what his is, we have a right we pay him. If our union is so fukin honest what are they hiding. Stop being such a fukin dick framer we just want answers if you were at the meeting you would have noticed the mics being cut off when it got heated . Most of us have been loyal employees over the years we think we deserve a little common courtesy and if our union can't defend us and give the answers to the questions we are asking they have no business being there!
-
I also voted no, I'm just glad someone else saw through the BS, people just can't face the fact that our union sold us out plain and simple!
-
Actually Framer you posted here too, does that mean you too are a pathetic loser ? This site is for ford employees and their opinion's if you don't like it stay the fuck off the site, doesn't the 1520 have a site? you might be more welcome there! Did you know something we didn't know when we went to one shift? Why did your fukin union come around and say if quality picks up we would get a new product there were always promises even when we were on one shift, maybe if you showed up to work once in a while you would have heard the promises also. The skilled trades were saved and all the apprentices? I didn't know they were in danger of losing their jobs? All the junior members were saved by the CAW? Fuck You. It was the unselfish actions from the senior members who took a buyout to give a junior member chance at a good job. Ford was in a better position buying out older members now how many of their jobs were replaced? No stock jobs that all done by FPS, plant service jobs almost nonexistant, relief jobs gone. no more leaving early, no more shift premium, should I go on? So when you want to rant and rave about what the CAW gave to us give your fukin head a shake and give credit where credit is due the senior members who fought for what we have today. After reading what you wrote it is I whom is embarrassed, when people say autoworkers are uneducated bums now I know why, think next time before you post!
