Lawsuit Says Mustang Mach-E Does Are Dangerous
kach22i replied to SoonerLS's topic in Ford Motor Company Discussion Forum
Link to one of the articles: https://fordauthority.com/2025/03/ford-mustang-mach-e-class-action-lawsuit-launched-over-door-locks/ I recently got locked in my gas car (non-Ford) when the battery shifted after hitting a pothole. I called my wife, released the hood latch and instructed her to jiggle the battery. She was too inept to do so, but a man and his son's at the gas station I was stuck at lent a manly hand and I was able to get out. I'm just saying these sort of issues are not exclusive to this Ford product. -
Sounds like the Lightning retained much of the regular F-150's traits. I talked to a Mach-E owner once outside a party store when they first came out. He said he made good money but did Uber (or one of those other ride services) just so he could drive the car more - absolutely loved it. He tore out of the parking lot to show off, yea, it was fast. I also talked to a Rivian owner outside a car wash as he was wiping it down, he said that his previous car was a Mach-E GT, and the Rivian was scales more powerful and quicker - he loved both EV's but his Rivian was even more than he expected. My impression is people love the speed and power, so they sort of ignore any other driving flaws what ever they may be. I have two cars, one is half the weight and power of the other (but about equal performance), both are enjoyable in their own ways. This is the context of where I'm coming from. The one that weighs twice as much with twice the power still corners near the speed of the other, but it's like there is a condom on it from the does it thrill you department.

This latest article got me thinking about EV driving pleasure. The only EV I ever drove was an EV1, it scooted up a hill near my old house better than my brother's 1972 Mach 1 (351). Yeah torque! 🙂 Most EV's have lots of weight, but great 0-60 times, so are they Muscle Cars that don't corner or handle so well? Do additional motors and AWD enhance handling at all? I want to know your experiences, just curious.

We have been down this road before in another guise, five years ago. Ford Mustang hybrid with V8, AWD, in 2022: Exploring the latest theory Jonathon Ramsey Apr 21, 2020 https://www.autoblog.com/features/ford-mustang-v8-hybrid-awd-powertrain-rumor Going back to the weight issue. ICE (2) electric motors in the front 12 inch longer wheelbase Batteries and or capacitor(s) Let's say the two extremes are: A: 1.0L Ecoboost range extender (similar to BMW 3i REX) with large/heavy 200 mile battery pack Z: 3.5L Ecoboost with small/light 20-40 mile battery pack (or just on launch discharge capacitor). Which A to Z mix would best suit a 4-door Mach-4 buyer? Something to keep in mind when deciding is the "A" in CdA. The Mustang based Mach-4 could have higher highway numbers than the normal SUV hybrid because of aerodynamics, a lower "Area". The longer body Mustang/Mach-4 would have a better fineness ratio and a better coefficient of drag than it's 2-door sibling, so the Cd is better than any Mustang or SUV as well. What does this mean in the A-Z decision mix? Conventional thinking says to extend the range of an EV, good aerodynamics are essential. Convention says to get a heavy mass moving, lots of torque is needed. Decisions, decisions. jpd80 mentioned a good historic precedence that should be kept in mind. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Territory_(Australia) So the question isn't what the Mustang buyer wants, it's what the Mach-4 buyer will be looking for. And of course there is the physics, always the physics.

Telo is still taking people's money for deposits. https://theevreport.com/telo-transforms-commercial-fleets-with-ev Two years ago they projected that they would be making deliveries right about now. All I've ever seen is computer renderings. https://chargedevs.com/newswire/telo-to-offer-its-compact-electric-pickup-truck-to-commercial-fleets/ Not sure that is the company you want to latch on to, but at least they are testing a real car now. https://electrek.co/2025/03/03/aptera-completes-first-round-real-world-testing-mojave-desert-solar-ev/

I looked up some of the Ford concepts mentioned, one was Cadillac's Art and Science influenced, the other sort of Chrysler 300ish. Not in a bad way, but Ford certainly has enough history of it's own to draw upon. Creating the future is tough, it hasn't happened yet.😁 Found an interesting website (see link below), use the "Swap" button to pan between the Rapide and the Mustang. If anyone figures out if the "transparency" can be varied - please share the information. https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/compare/ford-mustang-2018-coupe-vs-aston-martin-rapide-2013-sedan/?&units=imperial There is technical information on the bottom once you scroll down. There is a 10.6 inch wheelbase difference.

I just looked up ground clearance and vehicle height for the Mustang Vs Dodge Charger, they were much closer than I thought. I stand corrected I guess. Not much will keep my brother's wife from complaining (haha - poor guy). Charger has a 13 inch longer wheelbase though. Goes to the point someone else made about other platforms more suited to the 4 door task.

When I was 5 years old I remember seeing Mustangs on the rail cars as we went up the overpass near the Rouge Plant. When I turned 6 my father and I built a plastic model (red convertible) of a Mustang. My fist car was a motorcycle, but then bought a 1966 Mustang for when it rained already 13 years old (bondo-stang). Not a winter car, gotta admit snow tires were not in my college student budget. My brother sold his Mustang last year after owning it for about six years, he bought it new. His wife hated to sit in it (too low), and did not like putting grandchildren in the back seat. He drove another car (SUV full sized) in the winter. We talked about it, and had the Mustang had AWD and four doors, it would be his year around work car and not a turd brown EcoSport. So, if the 2-door Mustang gets a 4-door sibling, AWD and a slightly higher seating position would help older folks get in and out. Guy I work with chose his current vehicle based on ease of getting in and out of pretty much exclusively. Older people (+50), and people with extended families still wanting a Mustang should have an opportunity to do so in my opinion. The security of AWD and fuel economy of a hybrid wouldn't hurt either. EDIT: When I was a boy the thing I liked about cars was the styling, and the Mustang made me stand up in the back seat of my parents car to get a better look at it on the overpass. The Mach 4 should have the same affect on anyone, at any age - go for it as if it's the last car you will ever make. EDIT-2: Another market that could expand with a 4-door (put the bad guys in the back seat). https://fordauthority.com/2025/02/nc-highway-patrol-ford-mustang-cruisers-officially-roll-out/

Thanks, I vaguely recall they were made in Turkey. Ford settles US tariff dodging allegations for $365M The fine ends a long-running allegation that the automaker skirted a 25% ‘chicken tax’ on cargo vans assembled in Turkey. Published March 12, 2024 https://www.automotivedive.com/news/ford-chicken-tax-fine-justice-department-tariffs-cargo-vans/709965/ I don't think the roof hump is awful, it's just not convincing me it's a Land Rover (haha). EDIT: Second generation Bronco had a tiny roof hump? Looking for historic precedence. https://www.broncocorral.com/articles/history-of-the-ford-bronco-1966-1996/

I have no stock in Ford, just grew up in Dearborn near the Rouge plant. The business model in my opinion that closely mimics this one is taking an iconic 2 Door Jeep Wrangler and making it into a 4-door. Might come the day when 4 door Mach's outsell 2 door Stangs 4:1 https://www.wranglerforum.com/threads/thoughts-on-the-new-2024-wrangler-grille.2459788/page-5
