Jack Layton at STAP

Apparently "Smilin" Jack Layton is gonna make a special visit to the STAP plant. Isn't it a little late to be posturing? We've already been closed!!! You're about a year late Jack!!!

Not that I'm a real Jack Layton fan.....he really has his head on a little straighter than most of the politicos that offer a lot of words that never say anything.

Believe it or not, the Plant can be saved.....but not as a Ford plant. There are other ways that this could (should) be handled....but it's essentially out of Ford's hands and in the hands of Government. The only question is whether or not Government wants to continue to see manufacturing decimated in Ontario. So far, the answer is yes.

I also believe this but everyone should plan on being out of a job soon, its a very long shot.

Unfortunately, most politicians (if not all) understood the effects that global treaties would have on North America. The effects are that North American workers stand to gain nothing, the eventual effect is supposed to be a leveling between the Americas and other nations. These effects are supposed to take many years to come full circle. My personal opinion, is this current downturn is another milestone in that race to the bottom. This is the first generation not to have it better than their parents, regardless of the effort in school this current generation will not be able to make the wages their parents did. (with few exceptions) And, the race continues... My 2 cents

I totally agree. There are a lot of smart politicians out there.....and so I'm sure they know what's happening.....but I think they have absolutely no idea how to turn it around. The signs are everywhere....high unemployment, plant closures, low consumer confidence, lousy retail sales (reflecting lack of confidence)......and perhaps most indicatively, a rapidly growing wage gap between private sector (outsourcing, concessions, closures, etc) and the public sector (no competition, weak-kneed politicians, unlimited revenue - a.k.a. taxes, unfair bargaining power by holding consumers hostage and taking advantage of monopolistic conditions). According to a detailed study of 2006 census results, the average public sector job now pays 30% more than the comparable private sector job.....and the gap is growing.

If you want a high-paying job with a pension and job security.....you gotta work for the Government....ANY Government!

Then you can go out and buy a foreign made car. Love driving passed a school, hospital, Police station, etc and seeing the parking lot full of Hondas, Toyotas and Hyundai's

Sooner or later even the government (senators congress) will get theirs, unfortunately the current group will be able to whether the storm as will the next couple of terms, but automatic pay raises, life time medical soon will be a thing of the pass..it's trickle down then maybe they will start working for the people instead of all the lobbyist rant over

ask anyone in Toronto that had the pleasure of having to listen to him as a city councillor.

he's a lying sack of $hit. so's his wife Olivia Chow

No, rat face is there for a photo-op. The NDP doctrine as it stands right now is pro-union, but anti-CAW. Face it, CAW make too much money for the pinko party.

Layton doesn't give a crap about STAP or any working man or doing anything to keep STAP open.

All he wants to do is dump on the Tories and Liberals using STAP as a prop. The Canadian or Ontario government have nothing to do with Ford's decisions. They would probably love for Canada and the US to get into a bidding war for plant locations. Governments are too smart to play that game. The NDP is a Communist fringe party. That is the last thing we need now. We need a lot less government or we are going to collapse like the Soviet Union.

true.

If Layton had his way he would tax the shit out of autoworkers and punish them for making more than minimum wage.

He doesnt give a flying fuck about CAW members and doesn't want to see them make a decent living.
