Ford Jellymoulds
DAILY MAIL... Do you remember when James Bond escaped a sticky situation in Tomorrow Never Dies using his remote-controlled car? Well now technology has jumped from the world of fiction to reality. Computer scientists in Germany have developed an iPhone application that turns the smartphone into a remote control for their self-constructed car. The driver can operate the steering, brakes, and accelerator pedal with just a few strokes of the mobile's touchscreen. A video camera placed on the dashboard transmits a signal to the iPhone, which allows the 'remote driver' to see everything in front of the car and adjust the car's movements accordingly. The commands are transmitted from the iPhone via radio to the power transmission in the car. The user can park a car on the ground level as far away as the fourth floor of a building. Both the remote control and car dubbed 'Spirit of Berlin' were constructed by the Artificial Intelligence Group at Freie Universität in Berlin. The group is investigating how autonomous vehicles could change our lives in the future. Professor Raúl Rojas, who directed the project, said we could one day all be dropped off and picked up by driverless taxis, which would remove the need for everyone to have their own car. goinbroke2
Hopefully this technology can be used in other area's. That's like announcing "we have a remote lazyboy chair that you can do everything without moving". Yay, just lay there and type in "bring food, bring drink" etc. Wow how great, do your work, sleep, everything without having to actually move....NOT! I'll walk out and get in my truck in the parking lot thank you very much. :shades: Oooh it's raining!..get over it. THAT is the problem with a lot of the "new inventions" people pass off today. That's why we have cars that look behind us and beside us..for the idiots who don't turn their head or even acknoledge that there are other cars on the road. We have Wii bowling games and such so nobody has to actually goes out and interact with people anymore. Internet shopping for groceries, just sit on your couch and your food shows up at the door, prepay by credit card and tell the guy through the door to "leave it there" and you don't HAVE to interact with anybody...ever. I must be old school because shit like this just pisses me off. Basically somebody saying "hey look, I found a way so you can be even more lazy". And people blame mcdonalds for obesity in america? Dumbasses.
Ford Jellymoulds
LOL Man/Woman will lose the use of their legs. Wonder what happens the battery say no, and goes dead just as your car will make that important critical manoeuvre, crunch? Still l will be first to buy the App i-work thats not a word processor program, but does the work for you l will be first to buy it. You're right l have noticed at tea-breaks how folk spend most of their time playing noughts & crosses and other games etc on their i-phone with a quick text old Jones died last week, another game l am 4-3 up at the moment, rather than talking to each which is a very cold Japanese way of living. Its a funny ole world today. Edited November 18, 2009 by Ford Jellymoulds
Sixt9coug
I can see it now. Available for the PS3 and XBox! Grand Turismo 7! Use your iPhone as a remote control to control a REAL car from your stable on Laguna Seca. With graduated licensing you can buy your own real car and lap the 'ring controlling it from the comfort of your own bathroom.
Ford Jellymoulds
I can see it now. Available for the PS3 and XBox! Grand Turismo 7! Use your iPhone as a remote control to control a REAL car from your stable on Laguna Seca. With graduated licensing you can buy your own real car and lap the 'ring controlling it from the comfort of your own bathroom. i-racing Gotta say l think most would jump at the chance of driving around Laguna Sega themselves if given the chance realtime what a superb race track, its one of my favourite race circuits that l will have to visit before l pop my clogs. I can't help but think you in the bath reaching for soap just as you are approaching that nasty corkscrew at the top of the hill, and your soap sorry i-phone just pops out you hands into the bath by mistake. Don't think l would want to be a race marshall at this one when it happens. With this device l can't help but see a future in the year 2525 where big brother Governments will be in charge of the motorist, after they have taxed normal cars off the roads as driving gets banned for all except the filthy rich. Governments will have millions of little electric pod cars modules produced by a Chinese Government Motors electric pod company based in China. You will order your pods depending on your needs family size, punch the zip/post code in the i-phones sat nav & away you go. Goverment electric pods will take you to your destination, pods will monitoring themselves they will know in advance how many miles they can do on the charge they have left in the batteries. They will order another pod for you to change into in advance when batteries start to run low, they will drive themselves of to the nearest charge point to have refreshing drink of electrons. Pods will monitor themselves if tyre pressure are down to a pre determined level they will drive themselves off to a service centre for some air. If it breaks down it will call the nearest available pod to get you on you merry way again, whilst ordering an electric tow truck. Bad points driving will become dull, boring long winded these pods will stick to all the speed limits. Nothing is 100% failsafe Sat Navs have been known take you to the wrong destinations over cliff edges etc. Good points you can go out on saturday night, football game etc have a drink and won't have to worry about booking up a hotel pay for expensive taxi or public transport being breathalysed and you would have no road tax, insurance or maintenance to have to pay for. It will save a lot of lifes by keeping to 20 MPG speed limits etc. But to be honest l still prefer to drive own in my trusty ole Ford in the year 2525. Just wondered does the free i-phone App program "TV catchup" work from the States? It turns you i-phone into a mini TV set with all UK BBC and many other UK TV channels on it, you never miss Football or Top Gear whist on the move away from home. Apples I-Phone is an absolutely amazing bit of kit its a mini computer does anybody use it as a telephone?
