WW2
I have a 09 Escape V6.. Great little ride, no tranny issues so far.. After driving at highway speeds for a short period of time, if you stop at a light and the engine idles, it almost has a diesel type sound to it, like a popping.. its not extremely loud but I thought it was rather odd.. You dont notice it if the radio is on.. Has anyone else noticed this.. Im sure its probably normal...just wondering ??????

It's a major job as the head(s) have to be replaced.

WW2
I dont believe we are talking about the same thing... The sound doesnt appear to be coming from the heads area, possibly underneith, maybe from exaust ot cat converter area.... I would like to read the TSB that you are referring to if you have it or know a link to it...

I would like to read the TSB that you are referring to if you have it or know a link to it... Most have said that the noise is heard after extended highway driving. TSB 09-17-8 Some 2009 Escape and Mariner vehicles, equipped with 3.0L engine, may exhibit an intermittent knocking or thumping type noise from the cylinder head. After engine temperature reaches 210-220 °F (99-104 °C), the noise is typically heard from the rear of the engine as the vehicle comes to a stop. An example would be coming to a stop at the end of a highway exit ramp. Noise will continue 45-60 seconds and then diminish. Noise will occur again once engine reaches 210-220 °F (99-104 °C) and vehicle comes to another stop.

wptski
Does anyone know if this engine knock issue/TSB has beed resolved on the 2010 models ?? The TSB says 2009 but I was just wondering...... If any TSB covers a entire model run, how can it just stop when a new model run starts when using the same components? I believe your going to see several TSBs for the '09 Escape spill over into 2010 and also into the 2010 Fusion as it uses the same 3.0L engine along with the 6F35 transmission.
