FordPaul
Hi all. I just bought my wife a 2010 Mariner to replace her 2006 Focus. Having owned a 2002 and 2005 Escape I decided to switch up a little and go with the Mercury version. I think it is a big improvement in ride quality over previous versions but have a question for the more knowledgeable people on here. The wife insists it is bigger than her 2002 and 2005 Escapes and is a little harder to park since it is "bigger". I contend it is the same but with the addition of electric steering it may have a different "feel", or is it truly a bigger vehicle? All replies are appreciated. We both love it and waited patiently for 8 weeks since we special ordered it to our liking.

I am currently reading up on the 2010 Mariner myself since my kid recently told me that she'd prefer my 2007 Mariner over the 2008 Focus I was planning on giving her. Good grief! Anyway, from what I've read thus far, I think your wife is right on it being "bigger" but only by a few inches all the way around...but not by much. I haven't test driven one yet so I wouldn't know about the electric steering. However, I think the turn radius increased a smidge. Starting with the 2008 models, I believe there were some minor tweaks in the shape and style. I think it would just be a matter of getting used to the slight differences. Good luck! P.S. Which version and equipment did you get on the Mariner? Just curious. Edited October 31, 2009 by exrub
FordPaul
P.S. Which version and equipment did you get on the Mariner? Just curious. I bought the 4 cyl. FWD model with the moon & tune pkg, the ammenities pkg, power drivers seat, running boards, and it is red with tan interior. It is basically used as an grocery getter and I felt the 4 cyl. would be good enough. I spent the 1,000 dollars the v-6 cost on options instead. After she drove it a couple days I asked her how the power felt as far as accelrating onto the interstate and she said fine, why? I then told her it isn't a big of an engine as her last 2 and she didn't even notice. The vehicle is way quieter than the previous versions and rides very very nice with the Michelins on it. Thanks to Ford for not putting on those old crappy Continentals. If you test drive one you will notice the changes over your 2007 model. By the way, this past summer when my son went back to college we offered him up our 2006 Focus and were going to trade in the 2002 Escape he was driving. He said no thanks, and wanted the Escape with 102K miles on it rather than the Focus with 20K. Go figure.
johnjyi
Thanks for the input! I will probably start getting serious in spring/summer. Enjoy your new one!
