Kwill
I have a 2009 Ranger, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission, purchased new. This is my third Ranger, 12th Ford. Never have I had a problem as annoying as this one. At all times, the truck vibrates so badly, I get nauseated. After driving this truck around for a few hours, it feels like you just got off of a palm sander! I feel it at all times, throughout all speeds, but it is particularly bad, when stopped, in gear. It gets insane when the A/C is on. The Dealer dropped the exhaust system, re-aligned the motor mounts, and no change at all. The boys in Dearborn picked it up and brought it to their plant, re-calibrated the computer, added some dampers and brought it back. I drove the truck and noticed that the howling noise had changed frequency, and the vibration got harsher, but definitely not better. Now it looks like I am in this alone. Ford Motor Company says that my truck "is within specs" when compared to similarly equipped vehicles. (key statement!) Is all this just because the balance shaft was taken out of this power plant? I am pretty sure this is a Duratec 23NS. Somebody here must have some idea of what the problem is, and or what I can do to get rid of the vibration. Is it the engine or the transmission? I need to know, so that I can dump this one, and buy another one, without the component that is causing me all this grief. I'll drive it over to Dearborn, and meet you at the gate if you like! If the problem you described is accurate and the vehicle was returned to you after being examined by both your Dealer and Ford and still has the same vibration there may be another option. It's called Lemon Law where the manufacturer may be required to repurchase a customer's vehicle due to unresolved problems. As such, I'd suggest that you check the Lemon Laws in you state. If the vehicle is "defective" you shouldn't have to sell it at your own loss financially in order to replace it with another. That's what the Lemon Laws are there for. If you vehicle problems meet your state's Lemon Law requirement, Ford would be required to repurchase the vehicle, etc. Hope this helps give you another option for consideration. First off drive another one that is similar. Betcha its does not act like yours. Second, I agree about the lemon law. There is no reason for a brand new truck to do this. I had a 89 S10 with a 4 banger and granted it was not very smooth and it made all sorts of noises but it did not vibrate a bit. In fact, the truck drove good save for the rest of it which was a POS. I have been considering a XL ranger right before they quit making them simply because I think I can get one dirt cheap but I will not put up with something like this. Other than an issue here and there these seem to be pretty reliable little trucks.
Kwill
The dealer tech, checked out another similarly equipped Ranger, and found the same problems as mine, but worse. Anyway, after 4 valid attempts by the dealer to find and repair the truck, no luck. I gave up, traded the Ranger in on a new F150. I only did this because I could not stand the Ranger anymore. Not for 1 minute. I would have bought another Ranger, if someone could have told me which component was causing the vibration. But nobody knows (or is willing to tell). If you are looking at a new Ranger, make sure you check it out, for the vibrations. They do not go away as you would expect after things loosen up. This may only be a problem with the 4 cylinder, coupled with the automatic transmission, but nobody knows. Really!

Kwill
No doubt, it is a great truck! The only reason that I started with the Rangers, was the cost of fuel. The fuel economy of the F150 sucks compared to the Ranger My hat is off to the crews behind designing and building the F150's It is one great vehicle No comment behind the design team behind my Ranger. I am sure there were forces in play to get to market with the new engine. In my eyes, that was a big mistake
