Racin' Rick
Each time I shift into reverse, the sensors turn off (as indicated by the switch on the dash). What steps do I need to perform to make this repair?
06mariner
i'm not going to be any help here but we have an 03 Windstar Limited as well that had the same problem. Took the dealership weeks and many visits to find out that the jack in the rear pass. side compartment was rubbing up against the wiring below it causing the system to short out. Had to rewire the sensors and it was fixed and we haven't had a problem (been about a year now) since. Unfortunately the van is approaching 100,000 miles and we will be trading it soon ...we need another van though because my sister is in a wheelchair....it's a shame Ford doesn't make em anymore ...this is our third one and we love them. It makes me sick thinking that a Dodge/Chrysler or a Toyota Sienna will be in our driveway in just a couple months! At least I have my Mariner and dad has his Escape! Racin' Rick
i'm not going to be any help here but we have an 03 Windstar Limited as well that had the same problem. In actuality, this is very helpful. The van was involved in an accident some years ago and the rear axle had to be replaced as it took the majority of the impact at the right rear wheel. The jack is stored in the right rear compartment above the wheel...thanks for you input!
06mariner
Glad I could help...I should have specified that the jack wasn't bolted in the same place it was from the factory. At some point in the vans life we got a flat and used the jack and never put it back securely ....we kinda just tossed it in the compartment and closed the flap. So after sitting on the wiring overtime it shorted out. Good luck !
Racin' Rick
At some point in the vans life we got a flat and used the jack and never put it back securely I pulled the third row bench out, removed the right inside 1/4 panel and visually inspected all wiring relating to the rear sensors. Everything looks good...no loose wiring...the jack was secure in its place and was not the cause of any electrical problems. I feel the problem is somewhere else... 06mariner
It could be one of the sensors itself....I know there are what like 5 back there (too lazy to look in my driveway lol). If i'm not mistaken I think they should each unplug fairly easily. I just don't know how you can go about finding the bad one without replacing one at a time!???
