johnjyi
Would someone with the Hybrid Escape and/or Mariner please answer this question? Does the Hybrid model have four-wheel disc brakes rather than the drum rears? Thanks!

So, a hybrid w/ FWD will have rear disc brakes, but a hybrid w/ 4WD will have rear drums? I was thinking the regenerative braking system would require four discs. Guess not. Thanks! The traction motor becomes a generator and slow the vehicle down before the brake pads are used. Also, 4WD is the same as FWD with regards to drum or disc brakes. The '05 - '08 FEH has rear disc brakes but the '09 FEH was changed back to rear drums because of cost I think. Ford did add traction control to the '09 FEH and that may have something to do with why traction control is standard on all Escapes with rear drum brakes now. TC system is a four wheel system and I wouldn't think it would matter wether or not they are disc or drum. I wonder if drums are used on a Fusion AWD with TC? I wonder if drums are used on a Fusion AWD with TC? Hi Bill The '09 FEH FWD has a TC control button because wheel spin is cut through engine reduced power. If power is required with wheel spin I can disable TC and RSC with that button. Sure, it's not the same as the 4WD system. The '05 - '08 FEH system had no disable button in either the FWD or AWD or 4WD systems as you explain. The '09 FEH has TC in both the FWD and 4WD in that regard. I have the switch also, no button, no TC. Above a certain speed it's controlled through engine torque, somehow or other!
