Automotive News, has their annual 'Future Products' feture on Ford this week.

Next gen Focus is set to start building in November 2010 for winter 2011 intro. Most likely called 2012 model year. Will be based on C1 and the 3 door hatchback returns, along with the sedan. Mercury gets a sedan too, and no name picked yet. Will post more later...

So, new Fiesta and Focus will be rolled out within a 12 month period.

The 2011 Model Year Focus will be a ONE Ford Focus, with design, engineering, and product plan work done by the global team. The Focus in the United States, Canada, Germany, France, UK, China, Austrailia, etc, will be largely the same. The only differences will be some changes in front/rear bumpers, colors of paint and trim, trim level content, and engine availability, etc.

BTW I love how JimmyL57 just wants Fields, Mullaly and the team to just wiggle their nose to come up with a world class small car. These things take time. Ford is in the perfect position to come out with their world-wide volume car right when the market should really start to improve and Ford's image in the US is on a meteoric rise.

Being a One Global Ford Focus, I really wonder if the coupe-cabriolet version will still exist...especially with the situation with Pininfarina.

I'd just as soon see a mega-super-duper-BAMR instead

but

either way I really *want* it marketed globally as the MERCURY CAPRI :D

I'm torn between a fiesta and another focus later down the road I love the idea of an electric focus or even a focus with minor upgrades (like direct injection and such) for now I'm happy with my 2010 focus. What I really want is a fusion hybrid :) (why no focus hybrid?)
