robertlane
As the title asks, which GM brand, if any, will you miss the most? I'm going to cast my vote for Pontiac. . .purely for historic reasons (GTO, Firebird, Bonneville). I had a 1979 TransAm for a short time, but I've always loved that car. rmc523
Let's see: Hummer - absolutely hated them from the beginning Saab - nothing special Saturn - just some Opels.... That leaves Pontiac, much for the same reasons you listed.

I understand missing a car, but for a company that gave a big middle finger to the American Taxpayer, can't say I'll miss any of the brands. Given that they should have made fundamental changes years ago, delaying the inevitable until they got taxpayer's money, let 'em burn. mettech
My first car was a '68 Firebird I bought in 1974. That car got me a lot of "hook-up". :hyper:
Ford Jellymoulds
All of them, we don't have a brand left in Europe they have sold the lot to keep American Leyland USA & China afloat as they shutter 14 USA plants you can see where they are heading the writings on the wall as they get smaller and smaller. What will be the next bit of American Leyland family silver to be sold to keep them afloat? It's just such a shame to watch it happen, why can't they do what they use to do best make cars folk "want to buy" again they have lost the "magic" of the past that made their cars soooooh special. mustangman9494
ever since i was a little kid growing up in gm central rochester new york, ie delco and rochester products i,ve had to put up with cocky gm people who were so prejuidiced and narrowminded that i forever hate and despise their products. finally those bastards are getting what they so justly deserve i say let them rot in hell and i hope they never recover and gm is dead forever. :shades:
blksn8k2
I voted for Pontiac as well. They have received the credit, right or wrong, for building the first true muscle car, the 1964 GTO. The original definition of a muscle car was a midsize coupe with a big block V8. My nephew had a 64 GTO, 389 Tri-power, 4-speed. Awesome car but it obvoiusly didn't dissuade me from becoming a Ford fanatic.

Mark B. Morrow
My two favorite GM cars were my '67 Pontiac Grand Prix convertible and '69 Olds 442. I will miss Pontiac because they had a history of building interesting cars. I still think Pontiac should have stayed even as a sub-line of Buick/GMC. That could be said of most makes though. I don't think anyone pines for old Camrys or Corollas, but that doesn't seem to destroy Toyota's business models. 630land
Agree, which means that GM should have a strong Chevy lineup to compete with Toyota, not decades old car designs with simple badge changes to please 'traditionalists'. Look where that got them, sinking as the Titanic.

Look where that got them, sinking as the Titanic. Aside from the Impala on the aged W-body platform, what vehicle in their lineup is "decades old"? And it's not like the Impala is the root of their ills. Heck, it's GM's best-selling car so far this year.
68Cougar
I miss Oldsmobile! My first two cars were an '81 and '84 Delta 88. I had an Olds Cutlass with the 260 engine. No power whatsoever, but it would run forever.

hoofit
Pontiac is the only brand that pretty near ANYBODY will miss, except for the Hummer people. Hey, Oakland, then Pontiac, then gone due to poor management. The '64 GTO, I wanted one when I was 15! No more "screaming chickens" on the hood! What's Linda Vaughn gonna ride around in at Indy? Oh, well. At least Ford management is keeping their shit together and we have great trucks, the Mustang, and the Expedition.
Mustang_Marty
Only Pontiac has any history that is worth being nostalgic over. I was in junior high when Smokey and the Bandit came out, so just the sight of 77-78 T/A is a little nostalgic for me. Along with the GTO, it is the only reason that I'll miss Pontiac. J-150
there isn't a single GM car or brand that I will miss. Not even the Corvette. Everything that GM and its' individual divisions stood for 30 to 50 years ago, has long been forgotten by the company. Even the precious Corvette lost itself along the way. What happened to having an affordable perfomance car that could kick the crap out of anything from Europe?
NickF1011
Even the precious Corvette lost itself along the way. What happened to having an affordable perfomance car that could kick the crap out of anything from Europe? The Corvette was never really that affordable. It was always a relatively pricy car. My dad's '69 Stingray was $4900 new, and that wasn't even optioned out with a big block or things like A/C and power steering. That was about 30-40% more than most V8 Mustangs and Camaros available at the time -- a ratio that holds pretty steady to today. Just as it was when it came out 50+ years ago, the Corvette can still kick the crap out of almost anything from Europe for far less money. Try picking up a new Ferrari or Maserati for under $60K. Bored of Pisteon
I'll miss Pontiac for one reason. THEY ENLARGED THE DUSTBUSTER VACCUM CLEANER AND TURNED IT INTO A MINI-VAN. Those actually weren't bad vehicles when it came to gas mileage. But trying to replace a battery in those early models was a motherfucker. And I still can't understand to this day the sole reason on why GM continues using side terminal battery cables, etc.
Walt
My first new car was a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Esprit with the Redbird package. That was replaced a few years later with a 1983 Pontiac Firebird S/E with the WS7 (WS6 minus rear discs) package. I will definately miss Pontiac. :rip:
V8-X
Won't miss any of those brands. Sure Pontiac had the GTO and 67-69 Firebird (my 1st car was a '69 Camaro), but other than that I wasn't too much impressed with Pontiac. Everything from Pontiac since the mid 70's had bland style, especially since the 80's forward. Of all GM models, I miss Olds the most. But like those brands, I kind of miss Plymouth, especially the Cuda models from back in the days. But those brands will be missed for nostalgic reasons, not for what they've produced over the last 20-30yrs. I miss Oldsmobile! My first two cars were an '81 and '84 Delta 88. +1 All the posts show the problem, all of GM's beloved cars are from over 30 years ago. Who's going to miss the G3/5/6? +1! G8 & GTO had performance, but lacked style and good overall quality in my opinion. there isn't a single GM car or brand that I will miss. Not even the Corvette. Everything that GM and its' individual divisions stood for 30 to 50 years ago, has long been forgotten by the company. Even the precious Corvette lost itself along the way. What happened to having an affordable perfomance car that could kick the crap out of anything from Europe? The Vette up through the 70's and maybe early 80's I love. From there they lost their appeal.
Ford Jellymoulds
It hurts me to say, sorry GM l will miss nothing at all. Never liked any of their recent boring dull bland shit Opel/Vauxhall in Europe its hurt GM bigtime sad to say. Opel/Vauxhall boring shit won't be missed at all its anonymous you never notice one on our roads, Magna get to pick up its $6 billion dollar loss making outfit with sky high interest rate on massive loans to pay back, if the credit crunch continues Magna going to end up buggering up themselves as well. Chevy Korean Daewoo cheap n' chearful uninspiring junk is all thats left, l really would love to buy a European GM Chevy car but to be honest decent styling went years ago, but absolutely love the Classic Chevy Silverado & Corvettes you have Stateside at the moment which e don't get in Europe. It would not cost Chevy a dime to inject some Mojo into its car design in Europe, but bland boring and dull is not my cup of tea, sorry to say l will keep what l have got. l don't want a Chevy Daewoo Fridge appliance thank you very much you can keep them in your showrooms that none visits in the UK, if they knew only where it was. Yes l would love to buy a car from Chevy in the UK if they had just one car with some Mojo like Fords warm friendly coke bottle shaped designs like Capri's Cortina's & Escort cars all with big hearts & bags of soul rather than cold anonymous boring bland dull weak wimpy sweet nothings of today that are as dull as ditchwater souless Chevy Korean made ex Dawoo Matiz & Aveo's junk design nobody wants to buy. Sad to say all that gets me out of bed in the morning is my family, Apple I-Phone, Classic Fords, nice holidays today. Chevy European ex Daewoo Korean junk makes feel like having a long lie in and gives me no reason to want to go to work at all, whats the point? If GM Chevy sold one decent car in Europe l would jump at the chance to buy one. Edited September 18, 2009 by Ford Jellymoulds
