1,000 miles on a single tank of fuel in a Ford Fusion Hybrid

Recommended Posts

Awesome publicity stunt, I like it -- that would almost be round trip between San Diego and Davis, CA... a trip I hope to make a few times this year.

I've driven that one before... brutal! You get a bit wonky through Kern County... it's the boringest piece of road in California!

I hope they manage to find the Sync a real "sanity saver!" I'd be great to start/stop from UCSD & UCD. Get the university kids excited by something besides Honda!

Interesting that Carl Edwards is one of the drivers. He won several NASCAR races for Roush/Fenway at the end of last season on fuel mileage. The team would build up an incredible lead near the end and then literally "coast" to victory while everyone else was burning fuel and pitting for more in a vane attempt to catch him. It was crazy watching him coast around the track being passed by cars that he had lapped earlier all while knowing they could never really catch him for the lead before the race ended.

I wonder if he will do his trademark back-flip off the side of the car if they complete the 1000 miles?

I drove from Long Beach to Sacramento two weeks ago. Left on Monday and returned on Friday.

Then the following week i drove from Long Beach to San Carlos.

Putting 1700 miles of road through Kern County in two weeks is.. uhh...... boring lol. Kettleman City Carls Jr FTW though lol.

The trip to Half Moon Bay was awesome though. Super cold and windy so the waves were crashing all over the place. Awesome sight and i even stole a cool poster advertising a local car shwo from the Half Moon Bay Brewery too :D

doing it for work. First week was a rental Impala. Second week was a rental Altima.

Impala did 1mpg better overall on the trip. 28mpg average versus 27.1 for the Altima.

edit- i did take the Cougar up from here to Modesto once for a wedding in 02 i believe. got 17mpg out of it with alot of AC use. that was with 14s and 3.00 gears though :D

One of the best drives on planet Earth is Hwy1 from Dana Point to Eureka, or thereabouts. With the incredible scenery, exhilerating twisties and wonderful touristy spots along the way it makes for a great mini-vacation.... but you are not going to get 1000 miles/ tank in ANY car!

I've been on most of Highway 1 between Dana Point and Point Reyes... Definitely some fabulous spots. Gonna have to see the rest of it this summer.

You're right! They are at 1197 and counting. It's not ANY car, it's a Fusion hybrid. Better cut yourself a big slice of humble pie. :ohsnap:

That's the average. They have varying speeds. Even with my car 65% hwy/ 35 city the average mph is 32mph.

+1 My average for a week is about 36mph even though my top speed is 65 from work to home and vice versa.

I can drive aroud town for 10 miles and then run to Sioux Falls and back (100-115 miles) at 75-80 mph and still not break a 50 mph average.

Try driving to get a 25 MPH.. ain't gonna happen to you and you and you over there.

You kids are fooling yourselves if you think your gonna get one of these and equal or better this.

Here let me explain it just a little better, if I drive 35 mph for 500 miles and 15 mph for 500 miles, I've got a 25 MPH average!!

YEEHAW!

Oh yea, I remember this little test run also

Ford unveiled its 2005 Escape Hybrid in a flashy way during the New York International Auto Show by driving nonstop around Manhattan on one 15-gallon tank of gasoline. The production ready vehicle, which is expected in showrooms late this summer, averaged more than 38 mpg, traveling 576 miles in 37 hours of continuous driving. The 2.3L 4-cylinder DOHC Atkinson cycle engine generates 133 hp at 6000 rpm ...

Which equals.. TADA!!! 15.567 MPH : Double YeeHaw!

Keep your pie, I was talking about 1000 miles on HWY 1! It is chock full of hills, dives, twisties and places to pull over and say wow!

But on a friendly note, 1197 miles is AWESOME! I've shown many people at work who are floored that a Ford can do this.

It's a great move.

1445.7 / 81.5 = 17.738

Seems small. But so is the Escape's tank. Now just the total time is needed. for MPH
