Ford Jellymoulds
Econetic Diesels will be uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup Green Car of the Year Also during 2008, Ford S-MAX won the MPV category of the Green Car Awards run by the Environmental Transport Association and website Whatgreencar.com made the Ford Focus ECOnetic its first Green Car of the Year. Andy Taylor, Ford's European sustainability director, said: "Demand is so strong for Ford cars with small diesel engines from wind-powered Dagenham Diesel Centre that the site will add a third turbine this year to power plant output. Ford's ECOnetic range uses Dagenham's 1.6 and 1.8 TDCi engines. The accolades Ford has received acknowledge both our greenest product offerings yet and the attention given to the environmental impact of how our cars are made, and disposed of." Sales of Ford's sub-120g cars soared during 2008 – peaking at 50 per cent up in November year-on-year and averaging a 25 per cent rise for the full year . http://www.ford.co.uk/AboutFord/News/VehicleNews/GreenDrive

FordBuyer
I expect the numbers to be better than February in terms of total # of vehicles sold. They were 30% higher than February which I expected. Looks like Fusion, Flex, F-150, and Escape did the best. In this market, looks like Ford held its own and then some. Ford is figuring that they did better than most. Could someone post the individual numbers as my computer has trouble with PDF's.

NickF1011
Flex is actually surprising me quite a bit. It is outselling the Expedition for the year and nearly outsold the Explorer in March. Not bad for an "overpriced station wagon". Fusion held its own, but there were some pretty hefty incentives on the leftover '09's to make way for the '10's. Awful, awful, but at least they increased retail share again. One glimmering bright spot.
Sherminator98
Flex is actually surprising me quite a bit. It is outselling the Expedition for the year and nearly outsold the Explorer in March. Not bad for an "overpriced station wagon". I guess they are finally catching on...I've seen more and more of them but nearly 3K units in this rotten economy is pretty damn good for it. Maybe once things improve it will go to 4-5K units a month Edited April 1, 2009 by silvrsvt
Ford Jellymoulds
Gotta say l get a bit choked off lost for words every month when l look in at the numbers they were dropping all last year as well. I think l am gonna take break from BON and come back when nearly everything has + signs in front of sales, this is just to painful to look in at every month even if everybody elses numbers are dropping as well. NickF1011
Maybe once things improve it will go to 4-5K units a year Maybe even a bit higher, we can hope. Either way, even 5K a month would be pretty sustainable volume for such a product.

Fusion was Fords star turns for the month with one of the smallest drops, it has done well Nick sales may have dropped by -19%. I bet other cars in its class have dropped 40%. svtenthusiast
Ford really needs to stop reporting first. All you see on the current news feeds is "Ford Sales drop 41 percent". They will then update the article as others report.
FordBuyer
Ford really needs to stop reporting first. All you see on the current news feeds is "Ford Sales drop 41 percent". They will then update the article as others report. Ford sold 10,000 more vehicles in March than analysts predicted. I would be surprised if GM and Chrysler have sales drops under 50%. Maybe Chrysler since they are giving vehicles away with incentives averaging twice what Ford is offering. Ford's drop was 38.6% if you adjust for less sales days. rmc523
We'd be okay with that. +2  LOL I thought as much This is just toooooooooo painful every month, l come back and haunt you the most when l notice a lot of +++++++++ signs returning to the market place Fiesta diesels US No1 seller F-Series No2 Al's Taurus No3 You know, it's one thing when you post the sales numbers and discuss them a bit at the beginning of each month. It's another thing when you go around saying how Euro gas/diesels will become US top-sellers instantly and saying how Fiesta had such a great month last month (in February) when we're at the end of the month (March). You still don't seem to realize how different the markets truly are.....we don't like little econoboxes here, although gas prices are starting to force us into them. In the future, could a Fiesta or Focus be the top US seller? Sure, I suppose if gas got that expensive, but for now and for at least the near future, F-series (and larger vehicles in general) will continue to be the top sellers in the US. I just get tired of you saying the same stuff in every post you make. Sorry... [/rant]
rmc523
As for the sales numbers, eh...some vehicles had ok months. Glad to see sales were up over February, as well as an increase in marketshare, though. Anybody know how big of a marketshare gain it was? The press release didn't seem to mention it. I'm definitely interested to see how the new Fusion does in the coming months.
Mark B. Morrow
Given the massive changes to the economy since September of '08 comparisons of sales to the same month last year are pretty meaningless. We all get it we're in a major recession. Comparison of market share in a down market are a better indicator of Ford's success vis a vis the competition. These numbers are not a surprise. I remain hopeful that by September/October '09 we will start seeing increases over last year and that Ford's share will continue to increase. Barring a deeper recession, YOY gains will obviously be easier next year if things get better since this year's numbers are so low. As you said, though, markeshare % is a good indicator of success right now.
FordBuyer
GM sales down 44% for March selling about 155,000 vehicles and Toyota sales down 39% on sales of about 135,000 vehicles. Prius sales off 58% and Lexus sales down over 40%. So Ford didn't do too badlly in comparison. Adjusted, Ford sales were down 38% and Toyota down 36%. Toyota and Ford right now are just about running neck and neck if you include Volvo sales.
NickF1011
A little more info: Honda down 36%. GM and Hyundai both spent record amounts on incentives. Ford incentive spending remained flat from year-ago rates. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29993316/
