Where is the T6?

OK... I 'm getting more than a little annoyed at this point. My 2001 ranger has 115,000 miles on it and there has been no replacement news for almost 7 months.

I fully understand that the F100 is dead. I fully understand why that project was terminated.

I just want to know if I should be saving my penny's for the Ranger replacement or should I go out and get a Frontier this next fall.

There's a rather large market for a truck smaller than the F150, as 80% of all F150 owners typically tow less than 3000lbs monthly.

The Sport Trek is overweight and unrefined.

If I needed a car, I would line up to buy a 2010 Fusion. Still that is not the point, whats the new plan?

No news is bad news.

Come on Ford throw us a bone.

If you need a new truck by the fall, go ahead and get your Frontier now. The current Ranger will soldier on for a couple more years. T6 is still a ways from being ready and it's still unknown at this time whether or not it will come stateside. It's unfortunate that the Ranger has been neglected for so long, but that's basically where it stands now.

I hate to say it, but I'd go for the Frontier.

I've been waiting myself for awhile, and while I'd love to have a new truck, Ford just doesn't offer what I'm looking for. That being a Ranger-sized, crew-cab pickup with a minimum 6' bed that I don't need a stepladder to reach into. The Frontier is the only truck on the market (that I know of) that fits that. The Dodge Dakota and Chevy Colorado come close but...well..... it's a Dodge and a Chevy, and one is piss-poor and the other is so ugly I couldn't stand it.

I'm debating on just keeping my truck and going for a new car myself. I know my Ranger's got at least 10 more years and 100K miles in it, so I feel safe keeping it. And I like the Milan, and the Sable and expect I'll like the 2010 Taurus.

I'll just be chugging along until the mood strikes me.

Ranger M,

I know the feeling. My wife owns a 1996 Ranger 4 cyl. manual with about 160k miles. It looks and runs great. We have been hoping Ford would simply build a 4-door version of the Ranger for years. The F-150 is way too big for her, and we don't want to buy a Chevy or Chrysler. The japanese trucks are not even an option. We'd rather walk or take the bus than drive a foreign car. With that said, when we were in Europe this past summer we were tempted to buy one of the 4 doors there and have it shipped here.

I wonder why Ford hasn't made this happen. As for design, they should take some reasonable mix of the

F-150 and current ranger. Offer it in a 4 door and be done with it. Not very difficult.

I like my wife's Ranger, but she has the standard cab, so it's annoying as heck to have ZERO storage space behind the seat.

Ford's got the hard part done... (Great reliability). Just unleash it now with a 4 door.

I don't get the "unrefined" comment about the Sport Trac? Have you actually driven one or ridden in one or even sat in one? I have a 2007 Trac and other than the too short bed and quirky 6-speed shifting it has been a very good vehicle. It is not too big for my garage. It seats five adults in comfort. It has a 292 hp 4.6L 3V V8, 4-wheel-drive with a 2-speed transfer case and IRS. It even has heated leather seats. What is not "refined" about that? My previous truck was a 2002 Ranger FX4 and the Sport Trac has a much better ride, better on-road performance, better fuel mileage, can tow 6000 lbs and has a real back seat. With the right tires it will even go nearly as many places off-road as the Ranger.

Hard to believe that you current Sport Trac get better fuel economy than your old Ranger.

I really wanted to buy one of these when they first came out, but poor fuel economy, even on the V6 (yes, I know it is ancient history) stopped me. I really wished they offered the the D35. Hopefully, there will be a T6 with a "real" back seat.

In '02 the Ranger FX4 came standard with the 4.0L V6, 4.10 gears and 31" BFGs. I was lucky to get 19 mpg on the highway even with the 5-speed manual trans. The Trac has 3.55 gears and the 6-speed auto. I switched the OEM Michelins for 265/65/18 BFGs that are about 1" taller than the Ranger's tires. I also made a few performance mods including a larger throttle body, CAI, X-Cal programmer and Magnaflow cat-back exhaust. I have seen as high as 21 mpg on the highway over the same route. The Ranger had I think a 16 gallon fuel tank whereas the Trac has a 22 gallon tank which all adds up to a lot less fill-ups. :shades:

F-100 might not be canceled after all.

Given the size of the chassis, that is the ranger replacement.

The T6 chassis is supposed to be designed for 6500lbs max tow capacity with the biggest engine option.

The design criteria was to build something that targeted the Frontier, but retained the desirable qualities that made the current ranger popular. This same vehicle also had to be good enough to replace the explorer sport trak.

The origional F100 project is based off of a lightened and narrowed F150 design. So think of an F150 that is 1000lbs lighter with a smaller engine. But I also remember that the F100 was going to be built because ford was going to build a smaller Ranger replacement on the assumption that the F100 would be available for the midsize option. Since ford is making the T6 Ranger midsize, I am no longer certain Ford will be building an F100 any time soon.

^^^

The T6 ranger is near the deminsions of the curretn US ranger.

And you know this because......?

The reason I 'm asking was that Ford did release a press release in Austrailia stating that the next gen ranger will not remain at the standardized width of the previous Ranger. The article also mentioned something about vehicles previously sold in Japan had to be under a certain width to be roadworthy. But that, that rule no longer is in effect.

The second reason I ask, is that according to Ford insiders there were two competing ideas on what to do with the truck line. The first was to build a smaller F150 , the F100, and to also build a small compact pickuptruck aka the ranger replacement.

The Second idea was to build one truck as the Ranger replacement and to make it slightly bigger than the current ranger. The target vehicle for the design to beat was the Nissan Frontier.

Since the F100 project was put on hold and definative information has been released on where that project stands as of Feb 09. I find it very very unlikely that Ford you reverse their choices so quickly.

The final nail in the coffin for me is that the vehicle in the picture has BT-50 body parts on it. The BT-50 is the Ranger overseas. If the were building a F100 that would most likely wrap it in F150 sheetmetal as the dimentions of the proposed F100 were very close to that of the current F150.

The Explorer Sport Trak is due to go out of production by 2012, yes this is at the same time Ford releases the new Explorer. So what do you think Ford intends to replace it with?

:reading:

Lastly what makes more sense....build a F100 that can reach 26 MPG or build a Ranger replacement that can get near 30 MPG.

As long as Ford can make the T6 large enough to seat 4 adults comfortably haul 1500lbs in its bed and get decent fuel milage I think that they will do well.

Now that you have me thinking, Go take a look at that orange ranger concept truck, notice anything? like for instance some of the styling cues fit the proportions of the new truck? Do they even look like they will fit the F150s chassis?

Hold on I found more source info: http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index...p;mode=threaded

Rant over....Flame on.

Need to get the new T6 here sooner! Looking for a small 4 dr truck with good ride height for daily comuter and occasional garden stuff, bikes etc.. in the back. Need SNYC or latest electronics in the truck, good gas mileage, room for 4 adults, cool exterior and interior, with a great ride. Have a supercrew and want a smaller truck and don't want to buy a foreign truck.

Look at the Nissan Frontier and imagine an F Truck/Ranger of similar size and all the features you ask for.

It takes time for the guys to get everything right, remember this is Ford Aus' first venture into developing

a genuine truck so they want everything to be pin perfect when they bring it to market.
