Philgag
Hey guys! I first posted this as a reply in the 6f35 shift flare problem thread. I have decided to go to the dealer with this little issue i'm having with my car. Unless I accelerate from a stop super-ultra smoothly, I can always hear a quiet, rubbing-like noise in first gear at about 2000k rpm/5 mph...it seems to come from under the car. Whenever I am in snow, on dry roads, trac control on/off..the noise is there altough not always at the same sound level. I have a feeling something needs lube under there (4x4) maybe the drive shaft or something? my worst case scenario is that something is rubbing inside the tranny... next wednesday they will have a look at it and i'll report back here.! anybody have a similar sound? on a side note, by looking at the engine/trans I noticed something is written by hand on the tranny with a sharpie pen...weird! hope it dosent read "defective" from the factory hehe Edited January 30, 2009 by Philgag
wptski
Hey guys!on a side note, by looking at the engine/trans I noticed something is written by hand on the tranny with a sharpie pen...weird! hope it dosent read "defective" from the factory hehe You mean near the fill tube? I have something in yellow on mine. It's pretty common during assembly operations to write things on components or dab a color. It sometimes means that a important operation was completed. The 6F35 is given a full operational check after assembly.
Philgag
UPDATE: Went to the nearest dealer and did the test drive with the supervisor...of course, on that day, the noise was hardly heard and not apparent at all Rightly so, the advisor and I agreed that the issue was not obvious enouh to have a mechanic look a it right now, but that on my fist oil change I could check back with them and see where the issue is at... Yesterday I bought spray lubricant and went under the car to spray the driveshaft links and connections points ... after a test drive nothing changed at all... so no luck with that... I might go back under there and check for other spray places...or simply wait for my first oil change and have my original dealer look at it. I must say this little issue is getting on my nerve, as it is sporadic and very hard to pinpoint the exact condition that will make it happen at a well audible level. Otherwise I could not be happier with the truck, those newer escape are really exiting vehicules Edited February 9, 2009 by Philgag

Did lubrication work or did your dealer help?
answersplease
I seem to be having the same issue. Are you still having the same problem? Did lubrication work or did your dealer help? I have a new '10 Escape and noticed the same problem...squeak or hoot sound somewhere around 3-5 mph. I took it into the dealership and this is the info relayed to me..... From TSB 09-25-3: Some 2009-2010 Escape and Mariner vehicles equipped with a 6f35 automatic transmission may exhibit a single hoot noise on light acceleration from a stop.......the noise may be heard at the rear axle....this is a normal characteristic of the vehicle and does not affect transmission function and/or 4wd function or durability. With that said, the TSB's corrective action is to install a new transaxle drive chain which is eligible under the provision of a New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage....sigh. Was '09 the first year Ford used the 6F35 transmission? Edited February 4, 2010 by answersplease
