One reason you may not be getting the credit is because you are in an Alternative Minimum Tax (aka AMT) position. You should get at least a portion of the credit until line 35 is equal to line 34 on Form 6251. You can also check this by looking at Form 6251 line 36 and on line 45 on Form 1040. If these lines don't show you oweing AMT, you may want to have someone look your return over. I was limited to a couple hundred bucks but I knew that going into the purchase - I actually thought I would get zero, so two hundreds bucks was a bonus. Good luck. I just was not patient enough to allow tax program to work all the way thru, when I got near the end and review scanned it readjusted and I ended up getting 1959 dollars of the 3000 available. Only problem now is form 8910 is not yet released electronically for 2009 models on the program I use, just waiting for an update so I can finish filing. They still (as of yesterday) had the 2007 tax year form (dated 1/29/2008, so we should be close).

Yep, tried again today to finalize, 8910 still not released electronically for 2008 tax year, program still calculated based on vehicle info, program has a drop-down menu for selecting vehicle. It calculated based on 3000 eligible.

I use TaxCut and that is when it is available for that program. Good luck!

Hows your mileage anyway, mine took a dive in the cold weather, as expected. I had a 320 mile round trip today with alot of wind and 20 degree max temps, started out ar 9 degree's. 4 adults plus another 150 pounds of baggage, pushed alot of wind down, got some good help coming back. Tach ran at 2500-3000 down, and last 45 minutes coming back home it only ran at 1800 rpms, this was at 68 mph cruise set. Ended up with round trip of 29.0 One of my kids is taking an interest in the info. provided by the vehicle and how it correlates to interior noise and mpg, we learned about averaging things out today over the long range. If you're using one of the on-line tax systems (I'm using TaxAct), it may have three choices for Escape Hybrids. I think they're something like 2WD, FWD and AWD. One (FWD or 2WD) won't fill in the $3,000 credit, where the other one will. At least on the program I'm using it's that way.. Also, the IRS apparently isn't releasing the Form 8910 to on-line preparations until 2/4/09, so don't be surprised if you try to file your taxes and aren't able to. Good luck. Yes I am using TaxAct.com also, and noticed they gave 3 drop-down choices when there should only be 2. I picked the one that gave the 3000 max credit option, which I do have a FWD, the other choices gave 0 and 2300 max credits. Looks as though I will be able to finalize by end of this week. I checked the IRS.GOV website over the weekend and the form is still not released for TY2008, it is not your programs fault, it is the inept governments fault that the form is not released yet. I am in same boat as you, completely processed with TAXACT and cannot proceed until this form is finalized.

MarcusMariner
I just completed my taxes using Turbo Tax 2008, and it used the TY2008 version of Form 9810 (at least it says it is the TY2008 version.) The program will not allow me to print out a blank form.

scottfisher
I'm starting to think there may be a logic to the delay, considering the stimulus plan includes car incentives, and the credit could be enhanced for green cars. They have already put in the stimulus plan that you can deduct sales and excise tax on all vehicles purchased on or after 11-12-08 until 12-31-09, so any car purchased late in the would qualify. I purchased 10-15 so I missed that one, anyone know how they came up with that date (11-12) anyway ? I don't know if this will make you feel any better but I believe the deduction is for cars purchased after the bill went into law (or it was passed) i.e. sometime in February 2009 through December 31, 2009. It didn't make me feel any better but for those that thought they could get a deduction for something purchased prior to February 2009 may be out of luck. Not sure why another software would not have updated their forms yet. I haven't started my taxes yet (using TurboTax) because according to www.irs.gov web site, form 8910 (Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit) is still the one for tax year 2007 and is dated January 29, 2008. The value 2007 appears in the upper-right corner of the form, which tells me that the tax year 2008 edition of the form is still not available, at least not on the web site. Perhaps the people at TurboTax have arranged to get the unofficial version of the tax year 2008 form early? Try doing a "Print to PDF" of "All forms" from TurboTax and then view form 8910 to see what it looks like and let us know what it says. The PDF printout of Form 8910 from my Turbo Tax 2008 (desktop version) indicates that it is for TY2008. Here is IRS' explanation of the status of the online form: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f8910--dft.pdf It reads in its entirety: "The draft of the 2008 Form 8910, Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, is being revised to reflect provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and will be reposted soon." Once IRS releases the revised form, Turbo Tax will probably update their desktop version software through online updates (but I'm just guessing here).
