What would need to be updated?

Ford, Build us the Ranger MAX Damn it! It's to die for...

Nothing would immediately need to be updated on the Ranger Max, however, the Thai Ranger (that is what it is after all) is likely a dead-end program though, which will eventually be replaced by the T6 global architecture. I would just hate to see Ford NA adopt another dead-end platform, that's all.

I think ford should adopt cloth the T6 with the Ranger Max bodywork... The best of both worlds :yup:

So either adapt the Thai Ranger to the current Ranger platform or the new T6.

It's all about the exterior styling anyway.

Dead-end?-I think this would last as least as long as the Explorer

Sport Trac, probably longer, as it's a true Pick-up (small as it is)

The current Ranger in the US is a dead end completely. It won't see any updates of any signficance before it dies. It's simply not worth it at this point.

Not really sure where you are going with the Explorer comments.

All I'm saying is that the Thai Ranger likely won't see any major updates beyond its current iterations. It will likely be replaced with the global architecture known as T6, which is what we are hopefully going to get also. Would I mind if it looked somewhat like the Ranger Max? No, with some minor tweaks that would be fine. Just don't expect Ford to start importing Ranger Max's here anytime soon, that's all.

You may be more correct than you know.

Some info recently leaked out about the T6 project.

The leak isn t much but atleast we get some usable info from it.

Its wider than our current ranger and on par with the Nissan Frontier.

It will have rear leaf springs.

It will have a wishbone type coil-over front suspension.

US ranger replacement still has a 2013 ETA.

Timetable would seem to be roughly:

Sign off /Approval: mid 2009

Validation Prototypes: mid 2010

Official release: Mid 2011 (Outside USA)

Maybe FNA imports from South Africa or Soth America.

I wonder what project FoA will start this time next year, something for CY2013 no doubt.....

There was a news story tied to the release of the South American 2011 Ford Ranger, but it was pulled. I am not sure if it was T6 based or not. No dimensions were given.

Since I did see the picture. I can say that it definately takes styling cues from the Ranger Max concept, but it pretty toned down in comparason.

If I find the pic I will post the link here.

Just for note... This truck was a concept truck based on the current Thai built Ranger platform. And it one only needs to looks at the Ford UK site to see what the final production version looks like: http://www.ford.co.uk/Commercialvehicles/NewRanger

The T6 is supposed to replace that platform and due to international damands I expect T6 to keep the same demensions. Which are very clsoe to the soon to be dead US Ranger (International Ranger: 200.0" x 70.4" compared to US Ranger: 203.6" x 71.3"). So anytalk of a mid-sized PU seems to be incorrect... If they wanted a mid-sized they would have finished the F100 project.

I'm sure the UAW people on the forum aren't going to like this... But considering no word from Ford on an assembly plant I don't expect that to be their plan for import of the T6 following closure of the Twin Cities plant. I expect them to import a partly built truck from Thailand and finish assembly at an exisiting plant. For example: Send a near complete body & frame from Thailand and install the powerplant and interior here.

There are laws against importing trucks into the U.S. (see Autoblogs article on the TransitConnect for more info). They are going to have to ship it in some unassembled state in order to get around those laws.

Exactly... How much US assembly is required to get aroung the import tarrifs? Could they ship something all but devoid some final sheetmetal and powerplant? So the only thing that needs to be done is install and engine and finish up the sheetmetal. From what I understand this is how Toyota and Nissan get aroung the import tarrifs.

Much to Oriental IMO. If I wanted an Asian truck, I would get a Toyota. Too soft and wimpy. The "compact" Nissan was designed in and for the US market, and it shows - big frame and stout drievetrains. The GM compacts are essentially Isuzu, and it too shows the Asian preference towards thinness, tinny doors etc. The current ranger is long in the tooth, however a truck is a turck and the Ranger is as sturdy as they come! Add a small Turbo Diesel, new interior and the 4 door crew cab they already sell in Mexico and it will remain relevent. Its not a bad chassis, and in fact a very good truck.

The 4 door never met crash standards. And have you seen Nissan Frontier sales? bad
