igor
http://www.autosavant.net/2007/10/predicti...-ford-f150.html Predicting the 2009 Ford F-150Ford is getting ready to trump all competition again, but not all goodies will be available at launch By Igor Holas | 10.04.2007 | www.autosavant.net The new F150 will borrow styling clues from the Super Chief Concept When the current F-150 debuted in 2003, it seized the Truck of the Year award, and turned the full-size truck segment on its ear. With sophisticated looks, stylish interior, and competitive lineup of powertrains, the F-150 made everything else on the market look obsolete. However, it is four years later, and all of the competitors have released their new trucks in the interim – all aiming to match or beat the F150. The truck is still the king of sales, but the age is showing; especially in the powertrains, where the Ford’s 300hp V8 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission cannot match the 400-some horsepower engines mated to six-speed transmissions offered by the competitors. So, despite rising gas prices and a housing market collapse, it is the right time for Ford to release a new generation of the F-150. A lot has been written about the new truck, but unfortunately, the most prominent piece, written by Edmunds, was the one that had the most mistakes in it. So let me take this opportunity to present the full and correct outlook for the upcoming truck. Blueblood
Let's hope Melally doesn't let them release it without "all the goodies", they'd be better off delaying the truck until the goodies are ready..

Deanh
why? exactly...if the styling works they will sell irrespective of "goodies" like upgrade powertrains......besides the 5.4 we all gripe over is actually a GREAT engine.....so what if its not the 0-60 darling?
Blueblood
why? Because Ford doesn't need anymore new vehicle launches with carry-over powertrains. It's pretty simple, I don't expect people here to understand though..

Deanh
Not if it looks like the super chief!! taste has no conscience...I like it! but I also know it will be watered down like a $50 shot of Tequila in Tijuana.......

It will matter in comparos when the brand new F150 ends up losing to another player because of such "minor" things. People here should really make up their minds when it comes to Ford trucks... With the SD it was "people don't care about the sheetmetal", but with the F150 "it's all about the styling"? People do care about stying on the super duty. Thats one of its selling points. Because you don't like it doesn't make it bad.
Blueblood
It's just the transmission that made it slow. No, it's the motor, past trucks didn't evenhave 4 speed auto's to help them along, the 5.4 only makes about 220 horsepower at the wheels, Ford corked the motor up, go drive one and stop giving us your opinion. pcsario
Who said I don't like it? It was just a shame that the Tonka concept was wasted like that.

With the SD "people don't care about the styling", but with the F150 "it's all about the styling"? different trucks PC....and for one I like the SD's their appearance is one of being indestructible, but the 150 is more of a personal day to day pickup so cosmetics are more important I think, finesse as such....and its pretty hard to park a Crew Cab F250 with a long bed at the Sunday Brunch with all the Pagne one can guzzle...if you get my drift..... silvrsvt
I dont think the roll out of new engines will really hurt the F-150...if anything it will keep interest in the product the first 3 years of production
Pioneer
Hopefully they can at least make it keep the spark plugs in the heads, if they insist on launching it with 10 year old engines.

SVT_MAN
Ford has been working on the BOSS engine for how long now? They better not have a single recall throughout the life of that engine. They've been working on that motor forever. Any failures like Toyota had would be simply unacceptable.
