FORD TAURUS TAKES TO THE SKY WITH INTERACTIVE TRAY TABLE CONTENT

* Unique Ford Taurus advertising is featured on select airline tray tables.

* Ford is working with Brand Connections SkyMedia.

* Taurus is rated safest full-size car in America, based on both NHTSA five-star crash test ratings and IIHS Top Safety Pick for models with optional AdvanceTrac®.

DEARBORN, July 31, 2007 - Ford is taking to the skies this month helping busy summer air travelers pass the time on their flights with entertaining content on seat-back tray tables.

Beginning in July and running through September, tray tables on domestic airlines will feature exclusive content, including an interactive game, from the new Ford Taurus.

Ford implemented this content through Brand Connections SkyMedia, capitalizing on a new vehicle for in-flight entertainment and an innovative use of a highly-effective advertising platform.

“The Taurus is rated the safest full-size car in America based on crash test ratings and that makes it perfect for families,” said Robert Parker, car marketing manager, Ford Division. “Families have been the foundation of the Taurus brand since the first car debuted in 1985. With so many summer travelers taking to the sky in the next few months, the Brand Connections Sky Media offered us a really unique way to reach this important audience.”

this is a good idea, as most people are bored out their minds in the airplane.. I just hope it is well executed.

I will post the actual ads in a bit.

Two things:

1) I hate advertising on airplane tray tables. Looks tacky. I vandalize them if it's for a brand I don't like.

2) I don't see how these are all interactive adverts. Frankly, the spilled drink advert is off-putting because it is too visually real.

Also, if you don't back up information with facts, I can just see a lot of people analyze the ads. Have Motor Trend magazine (with its favorable Taurus review) in the seat pockets*.

*- I thought about this more. While it would be nice for Ford to give the airlines copies of MT in conjunction with the tray table ads (ethically, they would need to buy the magazines retail) - I'm not sure how much this will cost Ford, considering people often take magazines they assume are complimentary. So.... wouldn't they need to replenish regularly?

they could also just make an agreement with the in-flight magazines and MT, RT, CD etc .. and re-publish their review of the Taurus in the airline's in-flight mags .. hat would probably work better (IMO)..but yes accompanying these ads with reprints of the reviews, would be a smart move .

I would probably even add - buying out the whole issue of the in-flight mags with Taurus (and maybe full-lineup Ford ads .. that would truly keep pumping the message .. and while people would probably be annoyed a bt, next time they would think of a sedan, they would definitely think of Taurus alongside the like of Camry and Accord.

After all -that is how Toyota introed the new Camry - you should have seem the east-coast cities .. Philly at one point had virtually no other ads than the Camry ads .. they were everywhere and they were HUGE .. but it got the message across - no one will need reminding that there is a new Camry available.
