igor
according to Blue II it will be 3.7l DOHC V6 as a base engine - tuned for low end torque. it will be in the new F150 next year. Igor
CSMJ
I've posted this several times and everyone said I was crazy because Ford will not put a 3.5 in a f150. Well I am right now and I was right then. It is a 3.5 and 3.7 supercharged engine. This is the engine Cleveland Engine #1 is getting, the only problem is its not coming out until next August. This will go in the Expedition, next Ranger,Explorer,Van, Mustang and crown vic as well as a couple Lincoln's and possible some Mazda's. We were told this could be a 3 shift engine program at up to 500,000 per year. This will replace the German 4.0 V6. The only bad thing is it looks like plant #1 will be idled until next summer. Lima will add a 3rd shift and build all of the car 3.5L, we were also informed that everyone effected by the layoff in plant 1 will be able to transfer to Lima for the 3rd shift and take all of there seniority. Any idea who is making it and where it will be assemblied?? It's not a Navistar is it?? The diesel is part of the Lion Project which developed a wide range of diesel engines. It was a cooperation between Ford and PSA (Peugeot / Citroen) - however all the engines developed from this project are assembled in-house. I believe this engine will be cast and assembled in Brazil. 330 hp (246 kW) and 515 ft·lbf (698 N·m) of torque Igor Edited April 24, 2007 by igor

I have absolutely no insight into the 4.4l production .... so is it confirmed it is going to Brazil for both casting and assembly? There is one more possible reason why it would go abroad and that is if Ford has plans to use the engine in vehicles around the globe - just like Mexico, Brazil has more favorable trade agreements with most countries in the world .. however I do not seem to recall any other possible applications than the US F150. Anyways - as I said - I have absolutely no insight into this particular issue. Igor

There is one more possible reason why it would go abroad and that is if Ford has plans to use the engine in vehicles around the globe - just like Mexico, Brazil has more favorable trade agreements with most countries in the world .. Brazil is in the running, but the final decision hasn't been made yet (according to my source). I'm betting Mexico because it is a NAFTA country. As for using the 4.4L "around the world", that engine is too big for any non-US passenger cars and it is even too big for a Transit. Latest rumor is that the 4.4L might make it in the F250/E250 in addition to the F150/E150.

When u transfer you take your seniority back to 84 but in this case you would take all. If and when this occurs there are not going to be alot of 30+ year people coming anyway, the ones coming would have 92-94 seniority, maybe some 99's also. Im just curious but out of your 6-800 people you have what is the seniority levels. I'll say this I know for a fact Lima has a much lower absentee rate and medical rate, this is why Lima may get our work. As for myself I have 3 AWOL's(sick days) in the last 6 years. later bro

We here went thru the same thing in Brookpark when some 200 people were transferred here from Avon Assembly a few years back. Its a heated issue I understand. Especially now that layoffs appear imminent here in Cleveland and those people from Avon usurped our Brookpark seniority. There were other issues involved to be sure and I don't want to go there again but I completely understand your anxiety. At any rate thank you for your apology...I accept....and yes you're right let's not give the Company what it wants which is US fighting amongst ourselves. KWMJ-KTP
however I do not seem to recall any other possible applications than the US F150. Anyways - as I said - I have absolutely no insight into this particular issue. Igor I'm pretty sure that the Expedition is getting the diesel engine too. I've heard some speculation that it may also be a base engine of some sort on the Super Duty line, but that has only been rumors so far, but I would consider it a possibility. I think Ford needs to offer the Twin-Force 3.5L V6 in just about every product we build from the Fusion on up. A 415 horsepower V6 Explorer that could probably get about the same gas mileage as my current Explorer with a 239 HP V8 would get me real interested in trading up. If Ford has any intentions on resurrecting SVT, the Twin-Force would be awesome in the Fusion & Edge with AWD, and would make a good excuse to bring back the Taurus SHO. One thing that I am curious about. Ford says they will be giving Lincoln their own engines, instead of using the Ford carry-over engine from the Ford products. For example, they plan to start putting 3.7L V6's in the Lincoln's, while using the 3.5L for Ford. If we start to put the 3.5L Twin-Force into a bunch of Ford's, thats a bit of a contradiction, if they use it in Lincoln as well. From my understanding, the 3.5L and 3.7L are pretty much the same engine with either a longer stroke or wider bore on the 3.7L accounting for the extra displacement. The question is, will there also be a Twin-Force 3.7L for Lincoln, or will they just stick with the 3.5L TF for both brands?

By van I hope you are not talking about the Econoline? I have driven the new Edge and it was fast, the 3.5 performed well with the exception of some torque steer. I don't think it would be a good idea in a full size van though just because of the weight difference. That is a Crystler mistake. they are the only manufacturer that I nkow of to put a 4 cilynder in a mini-van. A small motor in a big vehicle is a no, no. They don't hold up!
