Although, I never liked the 2004+ model year stepside/flareside bed, I loved every stepside model up until then. Oh well, by the looks of it, they don't sell many anyway. Pioneer
also noted on the 2010 ordering guide...no mas Flaresides! It was hard enough to incorporate the Raptor bedside station into the current box-line without having to worry about a flare-side. The Raptor robot picks up completed body-sides right out of the rack, unlike the standard bodyside which is assembled and welded in a buck then transferred to a conveyor, then put in for assembly. Pretty cool process, btw.

Pretty cool process, btw. I would love to see that in person. Does Ford still give tours of the Rouge facility? In college, I worked as a summer engineering intern in a Johnson Controls plant that produces seats, and I was just amazed by the robots...very cool stuff! Pioneer
I would love to see that in person. Does Ford still give tours of the Rouge facility? Not the Body Shop. Only Final Assembly, and you can't see the whole process from the mezzanine.
Pioneer
Oh wow. I just put it all together. After reading the whole ordering guide, it's not that the Raptor isn't available in a flare-side, they are eliminating it entirely! Too bad. I liked the way they look. EDIT: No more 5.5' box on a extended cab too. No biggie. The 6.5' looks better anyway. Edited May 16, 2009 by Pioneer

rmc523
also noted on the 2010 ordering guide...no mas Flaresides! Huh.....always loved my dad's '97 flareside..... But of course at that time, the passenger side suicide door was the new thing, and shortly after that, full 4-doors came out, eliminating the ability for a flareside (sort of, or at least one that looked good). Also, the '04, less-curvy style came out with a less attractive flareside, although I kinda liked how the SuperCrew w/ the 6.5ft flareside bed looked. Oh well.... 2010 MODEL YEAR MAJOR PRODUCT ACTIONS Features and Options No Longer Available [*]Two-tone paint on FX4 [*]SFE package Interesting that they dropped that one......so much for fuel economy bragging rights.... And I kinda liked how the FX4 looked with the darker grey colored lower two tone paint. Edited May 16, 2009 by rmc523
02MustangGT
Interesting that they dropped that one......so much for fuel economy bragging rights.... Could it be that they are replacing the current engines with the 3.5 V6, 3.5 V6 EB, and the 5.0 for better fuel economy accross the board? I can't imagine all of this happening for the 2010 model year, but who knows. Edited May 16, 2009 by 02MustangGT

I can't imagine all of this happening for the 2010 model year, but who knows. I suppose it's possible, but everything on that order guide indicates the same engines as today, or at least it does nothing to indicate the new engines are coming for '10. I'm sure the new powertrains will lead to increase FE across the board, but I'd think they'd keep that SFE model around, if anything just for bragging rights (even if it doesn't sell), until the new, more efficient powertrains debut. StevenCaylor
As to the SFE, that was only available on the XL and XLT Crewcabs. Perhaps they are making the 3V 4.6 with 3.15 gears available across the entire lineup.

DearbornDerek
[*]FX4 optional 17" wheel and tire CRAP!! Those were the ones I liked the most, nice beefy tire/rim combo. I've NEVER seen a set of them on an FX4, even during pre-launch testing. People must really like their 20s. I might be dumber than I thought. brlcla
I have a set of the 17s with 275/70s. I thought I may have to get a more aggressive tire after it came in for the 17s but the Goodyear AT Extreme have more tread than I originally thought. Don't like 20s. The 18s would of done okay if it wasn't for the fact they come with street tires instead of ATs. It may have something to do with the new brakes that they can't go smaller than 18s. I figure maybe larger rotors and calipers. The original two-tone Blue Flame Supercab had the 17s during pre-launch.
