What does this have to do with "The Competition"? We all saw the writing on the wall on this years ago. Sad, but that's the nature of business sometimes unfortunately.

Competition?

Okay, time to start a new rumor. Fisker and Tesla are going to open a joint venture in the old STAP building once Ford vacates it. AND they will be selling those cars to Penske whom will be buying the Oldsmobile name fromGM to open a bunch of new dealerships.

You've got to find a way to tangle the Delorean name in that web too.

But John Z is long dead. Maybe we can find that Qvale guy.

DeLorean's head has been frozen and sits with ted Williams as we speak.

They are waiting for the rise of a new automotive superpower before they defrost him to take the reins and usher in a new age.

Maybe they should make the deceased John Z the new Chair/CEO of GM. Cant be any worse than any CEO theyve had for the past 30 years

Only 600 or so Town Cars sold last month, Oct 09, so much for the 'loyal buyers'. I see more seniors in small SUV's, minivans, and FWD/AWD cars, so the so called 'built in market' for BOF/RWD is gone.

And, Ford made profit last quarter, without high Panther sales. Another myth shot to hell. [That the Panther make lots of $$, no matter how old]

Lets get serious. The critical piece of missing information is that Fisker and Tesla plan to retrofit a battery powertrain to an existing platform. In this case, they plan to import Opels.

The fact that even 600 of those were sold in a month speaks volumes for what the car is. No styling changes, no advertisements, no incentives (along with far too many people drinking Al Gore's kool aid) and yet they are still selling. Try that with any car in Ford's lineup (or anybody's line up) and you wouldn't see numbers anywhere close to that.

Actually, it is no "myth". The Panther sales kept Ford from being in line behind GM and Chrysler when it came to hand outs and is the reason the D3 sedans have been able to be refreshed as much as they have. Now that Ford is going in the right direction, the need to lean on the Panthers is less. But the fact remains, without the Panthers, Ford would not be in the position they are in now.

The death of the car was brought on by the CAW. I'm sure Ford would have continued to produce it had the union accepted two tier wages. Not to worry, word of Police agencies stock piling Crown Vics for future use will keep Ford in the black.

WTF are you smoking? The Panther hasn't done anything for Ford since the 1980s

substitute the word "F Series" for "Crown Vic" and your argument holds water

Provisions for workers at the St. Thomas plant include retirement incentives of up to $90,000;

allowances of a maximum of $100,000 to leave the company and vouchers to buy new Ford models.

Well, at least the long term STAP workers seem to have gained a reasonable retirement incentive.

That's a better outcome than walking away with nothing like GM NUMMI workers.

With a statement like that, I'd say it's you that has been smoking something they shouldn't have.

Please, you don't know, so don't inject your ignorance.

Fair enough, I will grant you the F Series did help. But the haters can't ignore the fact the Panthers overwhelming profitability played a huge role in keeping Ford afloat

China will be the defrosting place for both John Z and Ted Williams.....just in time for the 2063 Galaxy Series featuring the Beijing Yankees in their debut after George Steinbrenners' clone sold the team. :hysterical:

Was this before or after Wixom was closed?

Most of it came from STAP. I only ever went to Wixom when they were counting the days, but I was less than impressed. What I've been told by vendors, it wasn't a shock it got axed. Different story from the same guys regarding STAP however. Moving the Town Car, under budget and on time (even with an acknowledged low budget and tight time frame), helped big time. A lot of Ford execs were impressed. Being in a meeting and hearing "why can't some of our other plants be as dependable as St Thomas" was a nice little compliment. Too bad it means little now.

It will be sad to see the St Thomas closing surely Ford could have used it to produce something else.

Gotta say l really like the Ranger its one of my favourite FOE vehicles, its a shame we don't get the Canadian Ranger l would buy one. One big thing that puts me off the Ranger and l am sure many other Europeans is it is made in Thailand, not only that l had a close look at one at my local Ford dealers panel fits were poor the cutting in of the bed liners looked very sloppy it looks like the Thai worker work to limits of + or - 2" when you look at cutouts on the front edge of the liners, my dog could have it chewed out more accurately they looked dreadful. Still if Ford wanna pay Thai workers peanuts then they get monkeys.

Shame its not a Canadian or US made Ranger l might have brought one.
