Ford owners not told of ways to reduce fuel-tank fire risk

Recommended Posts

The media has beaten that story to death. Stop already!! How many times does Ford have to prove that those are some of the safest cars on the roads?

I work at stap saw this story for the 4th time once was enough now it is starting to piss me off so i sent cnn this email.....................

Why are you guys always knocking fords crown vic, grand marquis, town cars, how may bloody stories are you guys going to have on this subject. They have been tested and retested and have been found safe time and time again. Before you do a story do your own test. You guys talk to a few people who have been hurt or a family who has lost somebody then you create a story. What about the other 2 million + people with these cars that nothing has, and nothing will ever happen to them. If you walk across the street you might get run over, if you go out in the winter you might catch a cold, do stories on these, you have a better chance of this happening to you sometime in your life .You guys make it seem like you have a better chance of being burned to death in your crown vic then you have of being shot to death, give me a break. I build the cv,gm we produce 200,000 of these units per year and the model your talking about came out in the early 90's with the gas tank where it is. How many have actually caught fire,do the math. Hit any car from behind with a semi- truck at 80 miles an hour and see what happens.People get into accidents every day many of those are different makes and models, they burst into flames people get burned and people die ,where are the stories on these. There are plenty of fires in hondas, nissans, all of your crappy foreign imports and you guys always seem to pick on the big 3, give us a break. In these tough times when our auto industry( U.S. and Canadas)is going down hill you guys always seem to beat us into the ground. How about doing a story on how japan, korea, china, can import into our country and we can't export over there. With all the lay-offs coming to ford ,gm and crysler do a story on how our industry is suffering because of this.We need to wake up, nothing is American or Canadian made anymore. The media is destroying both our countries we need stop pointing the finger at ourselves and our products and start pointing it at the other guys. You guys call yourselves Americans start acting like it.Support our products and our workers,we built, fought and died for our countries,(U.S.,Canada)our industries and our freedom with our blood and our sweat nobody helped us then, we need to stick together. We have given japan, china, korea and alot of other countries so much, jobs ,food protection, freedom, when there is ever aid needed the U.S. and Canada are always there. The way our economy is going these days we are heading straight for disaster,do you think when the stock- market crashes, when were both broke and fall into another depression that these countries will come to our aid, don't count on it!

I don't know if this response will get any replies from CNN but it sure as hell made me feel good. God bless all my fellow employees from Canada and the U.S. who lost and will lose their jobs.I will probally be one of them!

The only way anyone is losing their job at STAP, is if Ford continues to be as bone headed as they have been in the last 3 years!

Face it, there is a strong market for these machines, and a trivial ( compared to other stunts Ford has pulled  ) investment is all thats needed to silence even the worst critics.

Of course, if you really want to lose market share  go right ahead and keep doing what your still doing.

I don't know if your from the U.S. or not but STAP is American owned and American run.We are workers just like you all we do is build them,Detroit makes all the calls on what goes out our doors. All of us here wants ford to invest in the car but its their call,I agree there is still a strong market for this model same with the TC but they're closing Wixom and as we both know ford has done much more stupid things in the past.We do have shields around the gas tanks on the cop cars which probally cost them about .50 cents a car, you think they would absorb that cost or roll it into the price who is going to notice if the car is 2 bucks more, hell with all the rebates who would notice, you and i both know you can't tell those guys anything!

That CNN story made me so ANGRY...I can't stand the liberal media. They attack what's good and praise what's bad every time.

Stupid idiots.

HERE'S MY EMAIL TO CNN:

Your story on the fires in Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car vehicles really made me angry. Yet again you people do NOT get the message: THESE CARS ARE SAFE. IT's been proven, again and again and again. A jury in Illinois even agreed, and found in favor of FORD. I am a police officer. My 2000 Crown Vic does NOT have the shield, and I'm not worried about it. NHTSB has found that high impact crashes ARE EXTREMELY RARE, EVEN FOR POLICE. The chances of them happening for civilians are even MORE RARE. ONLY the Crown Vic/Marq/TC cars have a steel frame construction, as opposed to the tin can unibody construction that all other manufacturers use. Try crashing a car into a Chevy or Toyota at high speed and see how FATAL that is.

DO YOUR RESEARCH and report FAIRLY. STOP SLANTING and putting bias in your reports. These cars have had the same general design since 1970, the current frame since 1979. Over 3 million of these cars are on the road NOW. Firey deaths? A dozen. Do the math, look at the odds. My mom drives a Grand Marquis, I drive a Town Car, my sister has 2 Crown Vics. I drive a Crown Vic as a cop. WWW.CVPI.COM. STOP fanning the flames where none exist. BE FAIR. BE HONEST.

Too bad ford can't see it either, our plant is in trouble and might close , this might be the end of the crown vic , I hope not. But you don't have to worry there's always the focus or better yet that peice of S*** charger. You and all your brothers stay safe and keep fighting to keep our car alive.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! KEEP DOING THE WONDERFUL JOB THAT YOU DO BUILDING THESE AMAZING VEHICLES.

My mom owns a 2004 Marquis, my sister has an 88 and a 93 Crown Vic. I'm about to get issued a 2006 police interceptor.

I dont think you have to worry right away... Ford has committed and promised, that the Crown Vic, Marquis and Town Car will stay in production through 2010.

I just have to hope they continue building them in St. Thomas. Here's a little note. Lately, on my way home from work I have seen a whole lot of car carriers loaded with "taxi" yellow Dodge Chargers! There goes more of the Vic sales!

Maybe they were headed to New York...word is that the Crown Vic is not on the buying list in NY state.

I just read a complete report on the Way Forward plan. Wixom, Atlanta, St Louis will close, as will two others that aren't yet announced.

ST THOMAS.... will NOT close...but will be reduced to one shift.

I'm sad about Wixom though, that's where Mustang and Town Car are built... I guess they'll shift those cars to other plants.

If it makes you feel better though, 94% of ALL taxis in NYC, are Crown Vics, racking up 95,000 miles EVERY YEAR... running virtually 24 hours a day.

Actually they were headed Michigan way.

I hope it won't close, although if it goes to one shift I will lose my job anyway.

I'm sad about Wixom though,

I feel for any and all employees and their families who will be out of work.

I was in Manhattan last November and I only saw very few taxi's that weren't CV's. The ones that weren't were imported minivans.

Just a note to the thoose who sent your email to CNN. I love the content but if you expect them to read it, you need to go back and rewrite the emails. No offense, I totally agree on the feelings behind the emails, but you have to break it up into paragraphs and fix the grammar. It doesn't have to be 100% perfect but you need to make it easy to read. You should also consider sending a similar email to Bill O' Riely at Fox News complaining about the CNN report. The guys on Fox love bashing CNN so you'd have a better chance of them responding to it there and getting more publicity. Lastly, being that I own a panther car, I must concour with everything that has been stated on this post. It's an excellent riding, safe, great handling, vehicle that's the swiss army knife of sedans with a full on agressive personality. Well, maybe not that agressive, my car is but it's a Marauder of course. You're probably all tired of hearing me brag about it so I'm not saying anything further. Except that I love my car more than any other car my family has ever owned. That's not saying too much though because we've only had Sables and a few Hondas. But when I say I love my panther, I LOVE my panther car.

I just finally got around to watching that Anderson Cooper 360 show from monday. The one with the segment about exploding Crown Victoria's and all I can say is that is the most slanted bias spun around piece of crap that I have watched in ages.

They got one CRUCIAL part of the story wrong! The Crown Victoria is not the only American car with the gas tank in that location. The Pontiac GTO also has an above and behind rear axle gas tank. Did these fools ever even bother to do any research before they produced this emotional dribble? Cable news is the worst thing to ever happen to current events. Why does it seem the cable news people have free license to interject opinions and emotional crap all under the cloaking of being a supposed news story?

The whole complaint about Ford in this matter is them deciding that based on cost and risk analysis that it is not worth it to put the shield in every car. What these fools that cry that Ford is an evil company out to kill you don't realize is that you, everyone and I do the same thing on regular basis. Late for work? No problem I will do 80 mph instead of the legal 55 mph so I can get a few extra bucks and not get chewed out by my boss. A person in that situation has clearly decided that a few dollars is worth more than the safety of everyone on that highway. Now how exactly is Ford different? Oh that is right their an American company with a deep pocket not you a person.

Thanks for the correction, last I'd heard the Mustang was planned for Wixom but I didn't know that it was elsewhere.

I share your passion for these cars... ever since I was 18 and bought my first one, a 1987 model.

My dream right now is to take a tour of the St Thomas plant, I want to meet the folks who build these cars, watch their magic in action, and shake their hands.

I have to say thank you to you and your co-workers building the CV & GM. I've got 216K+ and still going on my '92 GM and I will never stop driving a Panther as long as i roam the earth. My mom's driving a '99 GM and grandpappys got an '03. Keep up the fine job ALL of you! You build the best cars on the road, and get none of the credit. Please know that appreciative owners are out there everywhere!
