Ford closing St. Thomas, Ontario plant as part of new union deal!!!!

It will be sad to see the St Thomas closing surely Ford could have used it to produce something else.

Too much capacity. Look for Ford to close another American assembly plant in the 2011 contract negotiations.

Unless there is a miraculous 17 Million sales rate by then, and Fords market share skyrockets. Both are a stretch.

EDIT: Not only assembly, but stamping/powertrain as well.

Well they want to stop giving all their work away to everybody else to make. Everything that comes out of Thailand has a junk reputation why dump the Thai made $h!t on Europe, why cant the Thai Ranger be made Stateside or at St Thomas if you are getting short of work. Ford is an American Company?

London to US 3,500 miles - London to Thailand 6,000 miles. Wonder how much Thai Ranger spare parts cost Ford or its customer to have shipped all the way from Thailand to Europe that must be good for Fords green image makers. Must cost a lot of $$$ to do?

You learn from a very early age that a Kamasa socket that has "Made in Thailand" stamped on it might be cheap. But most of the time it will round the socket off if its a high quality bolt, or round the corners off a low quality bolt because they are a poor fit - false economy. Snap-On sockets don't do this, only problem is you are a bit out of pocket if you lose the socket, but l prefer the US made quality to Thai junk thank you very much.
