Ford's 3rd Truck / Unibody Truck [MERGED]

Recommended Posts

Ford is scheduled to build the new Bronco Mini (Maverick/CX430) at the Hermosillo plant when Fusion/MKZ production ends in 2020. However, a 2nd code name is now appearing for Hermosillo which belongs to a pickup truck (P758).

It looks like we (or some other market) is getting a new Truck of some kind. Any guesses?

BTW, the new 2023 Ranger is code named (P703).

Typo or we are getting a unibody Mini-pickup?

Hmm......Transit Connect related small pickup maybe....as a new compact truck?

a subcompact seems too small to have a pickup, no (for the US anyway)? Though, them sharing the same numerical designation points to them (Maverick and this pickup) being related.

Whoops, yes the Maverick is CX430, the other combo joining it is P758/CX758 which is a truck and crossover on a shared design. Absolutely no idea what that is at this point.

The "Fusion Wagon Active" is another code name and is a distinct crossover model and design from the NG Mondeo it will be based on (it's not really a wagon).

It's also possible these are being shuffled around since CX727 (Mach1) was moved from Flatrock to Mexico. Ford's Mexico planning is completely screwy right now as you can imagine.

Does Ford's coding go by size? Meaning with Maverick being CX430, does that mean these products with P/CX758 are larger since 430<758? Or are they all just numbers with no relation to size?

What's Escape's code?

Furthermore, out of curiosity, what are Lincoln codes? Do they use the same CX designation, or do they get a separate prefix?

A long time ago Lincoln used to use the “F” code (ie: FN123) as a unique code but nowadays they all seem to follow the same coding from Ford with just diff #’s. I don’t know of any intelligence from the numbers, but the letters do still follow the general size and market placement. For instance the MKZ is a CD but the bigger Continental is a D.

If it's a smaller unibody pickup it would almost have to be based on transit connect.

That's my guess - the crossover twin has me curious though as to what that might be - unless they're going for a Maverick is a direct EcoSport replacement, and indeed doing a mini Escape and normal Escape, with mini Escape getting a pickup variant?

Didn't we discuss a TC pickup a while back? Or was that just us throwing out ideas?

The Vans are designed with V numbers, the next generation Transit Connect is V713 (right now it's V408) and is scheduled for FlatRock. It's part of their new AV fleet.

Lincoln uses the same code name conventions, the next gen Edge (2023) is CDX707 and the Nautilus is CDX706.

The Next Gen EcoSport is BX745. The CX430 is a C-400 code which is shared with Escape/Focus/Corsair so it stands to reason it's the same platform.

So why did you say it was a B platform vehicle a few days ago in the China topic?

The Maverick is not C2 based, it's derived from the Global B.

The Ford Maverick is a cheaper utility intended to replace the EcoSport (in the US) and slot below the Escape, it's using a cheaper and ruggedized version of the Global B. They are actually building the Maverick mules off of the new Fiesta. This is very common for the segment, the Compass and Renegade are using B-Segment platforms, as are all other vehicles in this class. You can get very spacious vehicles out of B-Segment platforms.
