"Dodge" sells a Ram 4500. Why don't they list that or do they combine that with the 5500 into class 5?

I bet the Ford figures were affected by the magnesium plant fire. Ford fleet orders are set to a desired build week at the time of order. Very few F-450 C/C and F-550 C/C vehicles are sold retail.

Data from Autonews.com, they don't seem to record Dodge/Ram 4500 sales data for some reason...

That's a good bet, I know that F Series inventory took a 40K hit at the start of June.

and the Medium Dutys would be part of that.

JPD80-thx for posting stats. Given relatively low numbers I don't get too excited about current month numbers but YTD tells another story. Ford continues to show significant drop in YTD numbers in class 6 and 7 while Hino shows YTD gains in both.as does F'liner and PACCAR-Pete in 7 and KW in 6.

It amazes me that while class 6 and 7 were always dominated by the "least cost" builders- Ford, GM and International. No longer the case-operators don't seem to hesitate to pay the premium for the KWs and Petes.

The 7.? gasser can't get here soon enough-as well as an alternative to Power Stroke/Torqueshift in diesel-

The more I look at the larger F Series the more it seems ther are gaps in engine options

that other Truck makers seem to be filling., I think there's space for the 7.X gas engine

as well as 4.4 TDV8, the 9 liter and 13 liter I-6 Duratorqs from Europe.

If we had a bit of that "One Ford" thinking on the Medium and Heavy trucks

then maybe Ford could create a bit more market impact...

Maybe build those valuable sales "slivers" that F150 is renown for

Me the fatal optimist..

Amen, The "naysayers" are of the opinion that they are "doing fine" with the "niche market" that the low cost 650/750 appeals to. From my perspective, when I look at the up and down numbers-mostly down- and the increasing market share enjoyed by others, I say "doing fine" doesn't cut it.

I continue to think it wouldn't take much to add some power train options that would make the trucks much more attractive to others.

Im not a medium/heavy guy but as an outside observer Fords efforts In this class seem to be somewhat half hearted, and I really dont understand why since they have resources to compete more affectively.

Back in the day my dad had several Ford L Series dump trucks and nurse trucks. I would argue they were the most common during that time. When I was in a position to impact purchasing decisions, I was able to steer those decisions to L series trucks until they were bought out by Freightliner and we continued on with Sterlings.

Those were great trucks back then, and theres no reason Ford couldnt do it again.

The simple answer is the main focus and number one objective right now is getting the core lineup updated and back on track.

I would say your experience qualifies you to be a meaningful contributor to this thread :)

Understood about "core lineup". I guess I throw class 6 and 7 into that mix as a meaningful component of commercial trucks which Ford likes to pitch as a segment leader-and core market.. If a commercial account has a fleet of class 3-5 vehicles, don't you want to have your dealer base in a position where they can be the "one stop" source for their class 6 and 7's?

And as I've continued to say, I'm not talking about a huge investment-although that would be nice-...rather I'm saying for NOT a lot of money, they can do things that make the current trucks a lot more attractive to more fleets.

Some knowledgeable posters take the position..."can't do it-cab is too small, not a medium heavy cab etc". Agree-would be nice to have a true "big truck cab"-but the old Bluediamond 650/750 seemed to work very well with a lot of customers in that era-but with a much broader range of power train options.

In essence that same Bluediamond cab is in use today-but without the power trains that made it an acceptable option for a lot of fleets.
