Next Gen Mustang has a 2022 Production date....

Recommended Posts

Would be 8 years if it comes out in CY 2022. A bit long but not terrible.

I do believe there were reports it got pulled up to 2020, right?

That was when Fields was in charge, before Hackett reviewer everything and the decision to ditch S650 in favor of CD6 was made.

I thought that was in conjunction with it moving to CD6 but I could be wrong. I was speculating that moving to CD6 and acceleration of CD6 was why the date was moved up. Again, could be totally wrong but that's what I remember.

I think that's what was said here, yeah, but maybe it changed. Hopefully it gets a few upgrades/changes if this is true.

I wonder if Gen 6 Camaro forced Ford to refresh Mustang with upgrades originally planned for much later in the product cycle.

Perhaps that also contributed to the change in next product cycle start date. The latest Mustang is now a closer match to the

Camaro and probably give Ford more breathing space on future developments..

I was under the impression that S650 actually is CD6 except the S650 was just the CD6 architecture specific for Mustang in terms of 2-door rear drive setup? So the S650 was going to be a new platform planned to just be for Mustang under Fields direction? I thought Fields had planned it from the start to have Mustang be included with the CD6. Sorry if this has been asked and answered many times here before.

That's what I had thought too and do kind of remember seeing someone having said this as this person knew a source from the Mustang project. Also, seeing how there's a Hybrid Mustang coming 2020, we figured that the Hybrid would be on the CD6 since that has been designed with Hybridization in mind. I can't see Ford rolling out the Hybrid for 2020 on the existing S550 platform when it wasn't initially designed for hybridization in the first place.

7 years is not bad for a production run

Not at all considering the Fox Body era ran from 1979-1993. lol The news that the next one coming in 2022 means that the Shelby GT500 coming in 2020 will be longer than one model year as previously thought.

Does anyone know if what this site said has officially been announced/confirmed by Ford or is all this just speculation of the site? I have not seen any other news stories about this elsewhere which leads me to think this is credible news.

I don't think Ford pays any attention to what GM does with Camaro.

Yes, I forgot about the 2020 hybrid mustang. I think this report is wrong and based on older information.

Given how dismal Camaro sales have been since the move to Alpha, I dont think Ford is that concerned about their product cycle. Its pretty clear they can afford to take their time with the next Mustang.

See, I thought S650 was an evolution of S550. I guess we will never really know for sure.

Im sure they could have found a way to rework S550 to be hybrid capable if they were using and evolving it for S650.

And SN97 lasted until 2005.

Pretty sure this is speculation based on insider info.

Actually the fox bodies lasted until 2004. 93-04 was called "fox IV" platform I believe. I know because I owned a 2004 for 12 years.

I think 2020 for an "all new " mustang is not happening since the '19s will be running down the line soon right?! 22 rounds about right, as a 23!

Agreed. FCA has had no problem moving 10 year old Challengers.

And Ford had little problem moving 2005 to 2014 Mustang, it was Gen 5 Camaro that made Ford do more with Mustang.

Challenger is different, it's a larger more practical car with a different client base.

This would actually be the typical timeline for Mustang. I never believed a new Mustang was arriving for 2020, we should see evidence by now anyway. They just replaced it in 2015, MCE it in 2018, so 2022 is right on time for a new one. What I'm curious about is the timing of the Mustang Hybrid, I suspect the new F-150 will also be a MY 2022 entry and will get its Hybrid powerplant around that time.

Agree, Mustang is now fresh enough to comfortably get through to 2022, the recent response from

buyers is vindication for the 2018 upgrades against Camaro which sells like crap.

Gee, i wonder why....the more extreme they make it, the less buyers want it.

That's what I'm thinking too. Either report is wrong or just opinion of the writer's.

Yes, the 93-04 was the Fox IV 'modified' platform as you mentioned but I have seen Ford label it as an SN95 platform. Then it became S197 for 2005-2014.

Autoline's source is:

http://www.autoforecastsolutions.com

I have no idea how they obtain their information (well, companies like FCA provide their 5 year plans, but Ford seldom reveal such information).

Certainly the hybrid Mustang of 2020 (which one would assume was going to be based on S650/CD6 as a '21MY) would make one question the validity of this report. Unless, of course, the hybrid Mustang gets pushed back, too. I'm assuming an S550 hybrid would be severely compromised, but who knows?

IF....if this is true, then I'd expect another refresh for the '21MY., as even the S197 had a refresh for its last 2 years ('13/'14MY)

Mustang also had 2 refreshes in that timeframe - 2009 and 2013.

Ironically, last night I saw a guy in a Challenger that he had the roof cut off and made into a convertible. It actually looked pretty good - it sat a lot higher than my Mustang.

Didn't Farley specifically mention the hybrid Mustang at that event a few months ago, and give a specific year? (I don't remember what it was, but I don't remember it being 2022.....I could've sworn he said both F-150 and Mustang hybrids for 2020.
