Will the Chrysler Brand get Dropped this Friday?

I think Marchionne plans to announce on Friday at FCA's investor day in Balocco, Italy, that the long-starved Chrysler brand will soon follow Maxwell and DeSoto and Plymouth into oblivion.

A source told a European colleague that such an announcement could come Friday, but the rumor is officially unconfirmed.

More details and reasons why he thinks so in the linked article.

That writing has been on the wall for some time. When the "mainstream" brand has 2 products - neither of which are in mainstream segments, I might add - it only points to its eventual demise.

Fiat is a lost cause at this point, sales have been dropping for a while now.

It would have made much more sense to do that BEFORE the Pacifica was released. I'm assuming it will become a Dodge?

Make Pacifica a Dodge, kill the 300 and call it a day.

There can't be any stand alone Chrysler dealerships at this point to worry about.

I agree.

The argument on only having a next-gen Pacifica (and dropping the Grand Caravan) was that they could charge more for the Chrysler version. I agree with that premise, but they ironically have kept producing the old Grand Caravan for fleet use. It'll be interesting to see them "Dodgeify" the Pacifica.

I thought about that, and then they could ditch the 300 and Dodge too. But a Jeep minivan?

maybe it'll make the minivan cool again haha.

Hmm...might not be that crazy - make it boxy......heck, picture a Flex with sliders plus the Jeep brand.....

I'm guessing Sergio will signal the end of 300C and Charger by saying he will produce more Jeep in North America. I'm specifically thinking that FCA will probably move the next gen Renegade from Italy to Canada and let 300C and Charger expire.

It's also likely that Challenger will move to Italy to boost the utilization rate of Alfa Giulia platform and factory.

Pacifica can move to Dodge and join Durango and Viper (and maybe Challenger).

Viper's gone already, isn't it?

I think people need to read the article because it does not indicate Chrysler is being canned, just reduced to North America (And Fiat to Europe/SA). I actually don't think much will change with Chrysler before the next CEO.

A future is still unclear for a great many things, they are not investing which is part of their enormous profit margin.

The Automotive News article implied Chrysler would be limited to the US.

The first Automotive News blog article speculated that the Chrysler brand would be cancelled, contrary to what the other article said. May or may not be true but that's what Anthony was posting about.
