akirby
But isn’t it a 7.3L?
Deanh
Raptor maybe...but I doubt it will go into the other F150 variants, no need. Superduties yes,,,,,
ZanatWork
Even with the surge in V6/Ecoboost sales, certain segments still believe that 'there's no replacement for displacement'. Given some big V8s available from the competition, this motor will need to be quite a beast.
Sevensecondsuv
It'll be big news if it goes into the superduty pickups. Ford abandoned the big gasser pickup segment in 2011 when they dropped the V10. I remember some pittiful tripe of an excuse that it no longer met NVH or something like that. Everyone knew the real reason was that Ford was simply trying to find a way to dump the V10 line. Ironically, the 6.2L then failed durability testing in the big trucks so the V10 stuck around for another decade or so. Idiots. Nowadays the best you can do on a gas pickup is Ram's 410 horse 6.4L or Ford's 430 ft-lb 6.2L. I'd love to see Ford re-enter this niche to maintain their dominance of the pickup market. Even if it's only a 10% take rate there's incremental sales to be had. I actually know quite a few V10 F-250/350 owners who are holding off on replacement until the 7.x comes out. blwnsmoke
But isn’t it a 7.3L? I know some said 7.3 but I just always remember it being referenced as a 7.x so who knows exactly.
fuzzymoomoo
I know some said 7.3 but I just always remember it being referenced as a 7.x so who knows exactly. I think 7x is part of the project code

bzcat
I think I would rather have the 3.5 Ecoboost in a Raptor but I'm not in the market for one so my opinion counts very little. I can't imagine how the 7X will match the 3.5 EB in torque and performance.

Sevensecondsuv
I can't imagine how the 7X will match the 3.5 EB in torque and performance. Why? Now that the 10 spd is out, equivalent 5.0L and 3.5eb trucks are neck and neck in most drag race videos. Take the 5.0 and multiply displacement by approx 1.45. I don't think it's very hard to imagine how that would stack up...

Assimilator
That is kinda crazy, I just assumed this engine was for SuperDuty towing, not necessarily a quick dessert runner. Edited April 27, 2018 by Assimilator
tbone
Ill believe it when I see it. I actually hope they dont so I dont feel obligated to trade mine in, since I would have preferred a V8.

Stray Kat
Ford is primed to start offering the new 7.0L V8 in the Raptor in 2018 (as a 2019 model) From the article
MKX1960
Ill believe it when I see it. I actually hope they dont so I dont feel obligated to trade mine in, since I would have preferred a V8. If they do, it may devalue the gen2 models. I can imagine the ADM on a 7.0. The gen2's are finally at the point where it's pretty easy to find one at or below sticker. My dealer is at sticker and wiill give me X plan pricing on any accessories I may want to add.
snooter
Engine Size displacement is the 1 gripe i have with raptor...i welcome this news...raptor is like the ron jeremy of trucks..it needs a big honking motor...

blwnsmoke
We were told by a reliable source that the 10R140 doesnt arrive until August 2019 The 10r140 starts production this August/September. It won't hurt the SD till 2019 for a 2020MY. But with the limited production at first while they ramp up it makes complete sense it would go into the Raptor first as soon as it starts. They did it with the 10speed and the F150 (raptor first for 1 MY). Edited April 27, 2018 by blwnsmoke
Twin Turbo
I'm assuming there's no chance of this engine appearing in a SE version of the '22MY Mustang?
jpd80
The 10r140 starts production this August/September. That would be Sharonville, yes? Original word was that Sharonville would start with 8F57 (Job 1 February) and 10R80 (Job 1 October) production this year to supplement Livonia and slowly introduce 10R140 over the next year or so.. Job 1 for 10R140 was originally slated for August 2019, so they must have sped things up a lot.. I wasn't expecting them to produce it so quickly especially with two other Job #1s this year...... Test engines from the 7x plant are expected by the end of the year but the plant will still be a long way from full production........:LINK Edited April 27, 2018 by jpd80
J-150
That is kinda crazy, I just assumed this engine was for SuperDuty towing, not necessarily a quick dessert runner. In a Raptor its neither. It would be a chest thumping point of bragging. Just like all the ZR1 and GT350 owners that never break 2000 rpm.

I just looked up the article I read a while ago and it did say August 2019. Well that sure isn't going to make it into the 2019 Raptor and won't make it for Job 1 of the 2020MY. Interesting, not sure if I can get any details but I'll inquire.
