rmc523
http://fordauthority.com/2018/04/new-2020-ford-escape-spy-photos-suggest-smaller-variant/ So throwing a wrench into things......here appears to be a baby Escape, not big enough for a third row. And it's not the baby Bronco, because it looks nothing like that. This fits in with our initial speculation of a new Escape and a smaller baby Escape/EcoSport replacement. So could we see this baby Escape AND baby Bronco sliding in under Escape?

T-dubz
Autoblog seems to think this is the next escape.
92merc
Judging by the extra hump at the rear spoiler area, it looks to be something patched in. Which to me seems to be the new Escape which is supposedly a couple of inches longer. I have an Escape. I wouldn't mind the extra couple of inches. But I don't want to lose care space in order to get a 3rd row I'll never use. My second row is empty 98% of the time currently. If the "new" Escape only comes with 3rd row, then I'll be more interested in the Baby Bronco. I'm not into the whole retro Bronco idea. I just want a smaller 2 row CUV. Not as small as an Ecosport, but Escape sized. AWD. Better mileage than current Escape. And I want at least the HP/Torque of the current 2.0 EB I have. bzcat
The camo is playing tricks with our eyes. It's probably a couple of inches longer than the current Escape. Someone with more time and skills should superimpose the side profile over the current Escape (like the Explorer photos) to see for sure. Edit: also it's possible that the 5 seat and 7 seat Escape will have completely different rear end like the 5 seat vs. 7 seat Edge; and we are looking at the 5 seat version. J-150
So we're calling the C-Max a baby Escape? Also possible it's the Focus Active (or whatever they're calling it) Edited April 19, 2018 by J-
rmc523
So we're calling the C-Max a baby Escape? Also possible it's the Focus Active (or whatever they're calling it) C-Max is dead. This isn't Focus active - we already saw that last week. That was the only other idea I had - that Escape 5 and Escape 7 are slightly different.
RadicalX
EcoSport 2 row subcompact UV Escape / Kuga 2 row or 3 row compact UV Edge 2 row midsize UV Explorer 3 row midsize UV Expedition 3 row full size UV Looks great
akirby
Edge is 2 row and 3 row.
Jqa1824
From the side view, the basic profile (especially in the rear) is a dead-ringer for the draped Escape that we saw next to the draped Explorer in the recent Ford Presentation.
jpd80
The evidence points to this being the new Escape Could it be the combination of longer wheelbase and maybe lower ride height tricking our eyes. If this is a better blend of utility and car, then maybe that's why new Focus will be less important, I think Ford may need a second point of manufacture for this vehicle, I think they will sell plenty. rmc523
Either way, it gives me a little bit of a E-Pace vibe in the front.
T-dubz
The front seems really low to me on the profile pic. Almost looks like the front of a car.

jasonj80
Edge is 2 row and 3 row. If the next Edge is on CD6 I could see 3 row going away in the next gen, they will just assemble the Explorer in China.
Assimilator
Pretty sure this is the Escape. Anyway, with Aviator, Escape, and Explorer...it's nice to see full prototypes finally. Not much to see yet, the shape has some pretty generic Ford traits, the swept-back headlights like a Focus/Fiesta and the L-shaped taillights like the new Focus with the low forward leaning grille and long hood also similar to the new Focus. The Baby Bronco (Maverick) is still in mule form and was recently spotted with as a stretched and butchered Fiesta. Incidentally, you can see the new Double Wishbone rear suspension in the back, same design from the NG Focus...which is obvious of course but it's something that is quite visible on these cars because of the large lower arms and the aero-shielding. fuzzymoomoo
Have we actually seen the NG Explorer in mule form yet? The only ones Im aware of are the 2 that have been running around for a while that are the current top hat riding on the new platform. justins
What is it with Ford and those MASSIVE front overhangs and looooong windscreens!? It makes their cars look like the wheels are smack bang in the middle of the car and tiny, like I used to draw when I was 3. Current EcoSport and Escape both suffer from the same affliction.
PREMiERdrum
If I'm understanding things correctly, this is the next Escape.
akirby
Maybe it’s just my eyes but I did some photo comparisons and this does not look any larger than the current escape and may be smaller.
kyle
Trying to figure out what the rear end is going to look like.....How would that rear hatch look and why would they make is to rakish and loose all that room in the cargo area? The current model and damn near every CUV has a way more vertical rear end to maximize utility....something seems off. Plus like Akirby said-this seems smaller than the current Escape. rmc523
If the next Edge is on CD6 I could see 3 row going away in the next gen, they will just assemble the Explorer in China. Why would it being on CD6 mean the 3 door model would go away? Have we actually seen the NG Explorer in mule form yet? The only ones Im aware of are the 2 that have been running around for a while that are the current top hat riding on the new platform. I don't think so, at least I don't recall seeing pictures. Maybe it’s just my eyes but I did some photo comparisons and this does not look any larger than the current escape and may be smaller. I agree. But maybe it's just tricks with the camo/the camo working giving that illusion.
jasonj80
Why would it being on CD6 mean the 3 door model would go away? The 3 Row was built on CD4 so it could be assembled in China that loves 3 row SUV's and avoid the tariffs the Explorer has put on it. Ford wasn't going to try and launch local production of the Explorer in China as it would have been launching a vehicle on an old platform that at the time end was in sight. The 3 Row Edge and Explorer are very close in size, though if they add some size to the NG Explorer there could be room for some markets to have both. I suspect China will start producing on the next gen Explorer locally and the need for the China only 3 row Edge will go away. I also suspect the NG Explorer will show back up in Europe and Australia as well. Edited April 20, 2018 by jasonj80
akirby
It certainly looks to me like it's a couple inches shorter (wheelbase and overall), but lower to the ground and taller.
probeGT
Are those Michigan road slabs a consistent size? This seems to be just about exactly as long as the slab it's on.
