justins
They just had the media event streamed live on FB. BIG news is Mustang entering Virgin Australia Supercars with official factory backing. Ford "officially" pulled factory support for racing in Oz back in 2014, but with this they're dipping their toes back in - more in an engineering support capacity than an outright factory funding capacity, but it's a start. Ranger Raptor will also be official track recovery vehicle. Also announced was the launch of the Ford Performance sub-brand in Oz, to sell ST / RS vehicles and the Ranger Raptor. (Hopefully this will also mean we get to see more FP Mustang variants in the future). Also (quietly) confirmed was that Fiesta will be dumped from Oz lineup, with the Fiesta ST being the only model sold, through FP. No articles online to link to as yet, but will as they go up. This is pretty big news for FoA. They're on a roll with Ranger being 2nd highest selling vehicle in the country, Mustang being highest selling sports car by a mile (though admittedly none of their other vehicles trouble the scorers much at the moment), and arch rival Holden struggling to get traction. jpd80
LOL at Ford Performance and FOA in the same sentence. Roger Penske now owns Dick Johnson Racing And other teams Edited April 17, 2018 by jpd80
justins
Word is that Penske basically told them he'd go to Holden if they didn't OK it, which would have left Tickford as the sole Ford team, which would have been untenable given development costs etc. Agree with what you're saying re it being a bit of a joke. If you're going to give us FP, give us the FP versions of everything we can get our hands on. All they've really done is re-launch vehicles that are already here, but in a sub-brand. Yeah, It's really a giant crock of smoke and mirrors when the CEO Graeme Wickman has vetoed everything good with TTV6 that was on offer - Fusion Sport and Edge Sport. Really pissing me off that can fund 2.0 diesel vehicles but is out to lunch on HP customers, biggest market for V8 Mustang outside of nth America yet it doesn't get us a ticket to anything else except FOE hand me downs...... ZanatWork
The Mustang is also the official NASCAR Cup-level car as of next year, which was maybe the worst-kept secret in motorsports.

Taken straight from Facebook to give folks an idea what the racing Mustangs will look like, the Ford teams have been working on Mustang as a Falcon replacement for the last 12 months. many were thinking that the Mustang shell would require changes to fit over the control chassis but the head of V8 Supercars confirmed it fit without changes to roof line and width which made all the Ford teams very happy.
