"Holy Grail" Platform for new Focus

Recommended Posts

What you guys mightn't remember is that when original C1 was developed, Volvo was then charged

with development of EUCD for the larger vehicles..it was originally known as C1 plus because much

of the design was an extension of C1 with shared power train and electrical systems but suspension

was changed to suit the needs of larger vehicles. When the American took hold of EUCD and made

it into CD4, that moved the new platform further away from its C1 Plus roots.

Now take what was known from that and apply it to Ford as a do over and you can see that all

elements can be baked in at the start instead of growing and adding piecemeal over the years.

C2 is everything that C1 and C1 Plus originally promised..and more.

The all-new Focus is the first vehicle globally to be based on Ford’s new C2 platform designed to enhance crash performance; deliver more interior space for Ford’s mid-size models without negatively impacting exterior dimensions; and support improved aerodynamics for better fuel-efficiency.

So if Ford calls it C2 then it's official....

Also, our next global mid sized vehicles will become more space efficient. without gaining weight.

C2 and CD6 is snappy enough for me

Also remember this presentation from 2015 (under Fields)? https://corporate.ford.com/content/dam/corporate/en/investors/investor-events/Conferences/2015/2015-deutsche-bank-conference.pdf

It says Ford will have 8 global platforms... now we are down to 5: (and possibly 6 if you include the yet to be seen EV platform)

C2

CD6

Transit

BOF trucks

Medium duty US trucks

E1?

I think it was 5 - they weren't including medium duty trucks.
