GM cutting another shift at another plant

Considering that the Cruze is a relatively new generation car and that there is a minor freshening next year tells me that GM figured on keeping the car around for awhile. If they have been surprised by current market changes then I think the Lordstown plant may be in trouble.

GM's Korean operation is looking shaky as well. That along with the divestiture of Opel/Vauxhall leads to a good deal of retrenchment by GM.

The announcement by Marchionne that he will be retiring from FCA next year and media speculation that a new CEO will once again seek to combine FCA with another company leads me to wonder if GM will go for it this time, if for no other purpose than to acquire Jeep?

Yes sir. GM started production of New Cruze at the Gunsan plant in South Korea last year to much celebration. But that plant is now operating at only 20% of capacity. GM will shut down the plant completely next month. The other plants that build Chevy Cruze (Lordstown, Ramos Arizpe, Rosario, and Shenyang) have plenty of capacity to serve markets around the globe.

Ford didn't close any plants in moving Focus out. Just cost too darn much to build low price cars here, and no one is going to take a pay cut.

GM should have made the Cruze plant more flexible, to make more UVs, instead of laying off people.

If anything, Ford bailed out of SLP and moved that production to the USA...

but some continue the glass half empty talk.

Having Ranger / Bronco production and another plant at Flat Rock is all good news.

SLP? What other plant is there at Flat Rock? All I know is the one that makes Mustangs, some Fusions, and the Continental.

FRAP hasnt produced the Fusion since February 2016. I installed the left rear door on the last one built there. Edited by fuzzymoomoo

I was not aware of this. So only the Mustang and Continental then? I know things will change once the C2 and CD6 goes into production.

San Luis Potosí, Mexico = halted-unfinished^^

& a new facility is being built right next to FRAP within the same site ....still, right?

Oh yes, I forgot about the plant in Mexico that was originally going to be for Focus.

yes. For the autonomous vehicle program.

I now remember reading about the additional plant to FRAP regarding the autonomous vehicle program. It just slipped my mind at the moment.

Thanks guys for clarifying a few things as well as jogging up my memory.

Unless the Continental does get cancelled after all none of that will have any effect of FRAP.

Clarify: FRAP might get the next gen MKZ (or whatever they call it) but that is still VERY up in the air.
