To be fair Hackett may be either cutting more or maintaining the previous cuts to get the products back on track. Hard to say. If they were cutting costs and cutting product development like they were the last couple of years I’d be more concerned. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for another year or so.

I think Tesla is demonstrating the fact that volume manufacturing of complicated product with huge supply chain is hard... There is a reason why there hasn't been a new successful car company starting from scratch in the US since Chrysler.

 

It's relatively easy to design or engineer a car. You just need a few talented people to lead a small team. It's different when you have to build it.

 

But it must vexes Ford (or GM) executives that Tesla is not held to the same financial rules.

Ford is afraid of telegraphing moves like using brand new platforms and vehicles,  they're lulling the competition

into a false sense of security by spending tens of billions on connectivity and mobility......
