2019 Edge Titanium Elite

Recommended Posts

I think its nice, but doesnt this start to encroach on the mkx? Or will the nautilus move further up and farther away from its ford cousin?

Different customers, very few Lincoln customers consider a Ford. Just as some people want the badge, there are other people (mainly small and medium sized business owners) that dont want the badge.

Its bothering me more and more that I work for this company and its getting harder and harder to afford what we build....

Should you be able to afford every trim on every model, though?

Can Boeing employees afford their planes?

Can Cat employees afford their dozers?

Can John Deere employees afford the $300k combines?

Looks like a Vignale. Titanium Elite? Why not just make it a Platinum?

Maybe no more multi option packages per trim. Eg 301a/302a/303a, 401a/402a etc they become a full trim.

SE

SEL

Titanium

Titanium Elite

Platinum

ST

ST Elite

Toss in depending on model a cold weather package(heated wheel, heated windshield, heated back seats), tow package, advanced safety package (adaptive stop/go cruise, lane centering, adaptive steering, evasive steering assist, inflatiable rear seatbelts) a few free standing moonroof, bigger wheels, summer tires, navigation and thats it.

Ordering configuration becomes much more streamlined with way fewer build combinations of each model.

I should be able to afford a reasonably loaded mid-level trim of pretty much anything Ford has to offer. Thats getting harder and harder to do, especially when you get up to an Explorer or Expedition.

I meant youre kidding that you should be able to afford any Ford brand vehicle just because you work for Ford.

Was that not Henry Fords vision?

Besides, its not like Im talking about fully loaded Platinum trims or loaded Black Label Lincolns. It shouldnt be that unreasonable to get an Explorer XLT with a few goodies added and not break the bank every month.

Exactly. A brand that's supposed to be for the common man is now producing $50k-$80k Expeditions. That's way too much for even an upper-middle class family. The ones that can truly afford those prices aren't even looking at Fords. It's the gotta-haves, middle class debtors buying these things.

Maybe 20 years ago it was-but do keep in mind you have three other options before you even hit an Explorer that you can buy.

I pulled up an XLT Explorer (listed at 35K before A plan) and the at 60 months with zero percent financing it was $500 a month without a trade in and $3200 for a down payment after A plan.

The average cost of a new car is $479 a month

With the average transaction price over 36,000 for the auto industry it is not hard to understand where the market is going, it would seem that escape titanium is your average vehicle right now from a price perspective. The people have spoken and what they want is more tech and other high end features driving the ATP s higher. Ford would be stupid to leave that money on the table. My wife is jeweler and works with very expensive gem stones. This does mean she should be able to afford to own these gems on her salary. Ford needs to cover the market with vehicles for bank tellers to the bank presidents and not be limited to what it manufacturing technicians can afford.

You’re talking about 2 different independent competitive markets - one for jobs and one for vehicle sales. Ford wages and vehicle pricing are on par with all the other mfrs and in some cases, better. They offer A plan and they offer vehicles that start under $14K and go all the way to $400K. Every Ford employee should be able to afford a Ford brand vehicle - but it may have to be a Fiesta or Focus or base Escape rather than a nicely equipped Explorer or Expedition.

If customers are willing to pay $50K for Explorers, Expeditions and Trucks then Ford would be stupid not to go after that.

I think the increases in prices is what is also driving automakers to look at subscription pricing-for what your paying for a car payment ($500-600 a month) you can get a near luxury or luxury car with insurance, maintenance and other things for the same price.

The only downside to this is that you don't have a "down period" where you can just operate a car with gas/maintenance and insurance and pocket that $ to use for another down payment or whatever.

And what does the average family spend on stuff like cell phones, cable, music, and TV subscriptions? Probably at least half that.

Shit ain't cheap anymore! I know that with Verizon, with paying on two phones and a 15% veterans discount, I was paying over $200 for unlimited usage...thankfully my wife's phone is paid off so its only $184 now lol

I also tell my wife (who is the cheapsake in the family) that her $379 car payment on a Escape SE is "cheap" vs the average- we didn't put any $$$ down on it either and where lucky to get $2500 for her old 2010 Escape with 157K miles on it.

My point exactly! And it all comes down to priorities. I've cut satellite. We just didn't watch it that much, and it wasn't worth the cost to me (and I don't have Hulu/Netflix/etc.) While I would be lost without my phone, if push came to shove, I would drop it in a heartbeat for a cheapo pay-as-you-go phone for $10/month if I had to.

People (and I'm not picking on fuzzy here) today complain about a $450/month car payment, but they have no problem paying $150-200 for a couple phones, $100 for cable, $15 for Apple Music, $15 for NetFlix, $10 for Hulu, and $400 for eating at restaurants. Priorities!

.

Same reason why Ford sells $70K+ F150 Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum but the same truck with a Lincoln badge will sit...a contractor or job foreman that shows up in a Lincoln truck is seen as a snob, but pull in with a loaded up F150 and its, "Hey...he drives a Ford pick-em-up truck just like the rest of us."...
