coupe3w
Is this the start of a complete pull out of racing for Ford? http://autoweek.com/article/rally/ford-performance-ken-block-hoonigan-racing-leaving-fia-world-rallycross-championship
akirby
Sounds like an issue with that series and pending rule changes. I don't think they want to commit to a new car until the new specs are stable.

akirby
Tanner Foust and the Volkswagen teams are dominant. Which is probably the reason for the rules changes.
twintornados
said Dave Pericak, global director of Ford Performance. “To continue in WRX would have required the development of a new race car, and with so much discussion happening around the future of rallycross from a powertrain package standpoint, it made sense for us to pause until it’s better defined. Rest assured, we remain absolutely committed to hot hatches and all things performance and think rallycross has a bright future.”
coupe3w
I can see Jim Hackett pulling the plug on all motorsports. He's a hatchet man. He's cutting engineering expenses by $4 billion over the next five years. Cutting racing programs will be part of that I bet.

Yes cutting engineering expenses and shortening development time-hmnn-good trick if you can do it. Given never ending complexity of everything and can't believe the regulatory requirements will lighten up either. Let's see- Mulally came from a world in which the product was built with hundreds of thousands of components. And Hackett-well I imagine the research into desk drawer slides was extensive too!
